in the inland east bay, the moderate in the north bay. with our temperatures going up several more degrees today compared to yesterday. south county up to 96 and we can see some triple digits today in the inland east bay. we'll talk more about what's ahead. and, mike, you have one problem pretty far to the north. >> for most of our viewers, it's pretty far. we're looking at oakland and i was lamenting the change from the oracle building. my goodness. here we go. most of the bay looks great. a smooth flow of traffic ago we're looking to most of our commute. no delays. brentwood, vasco road, delivery bay, a smooth flow from the north bay across the bridges. but we're looking over here towards lytton springs where we have a crash what happened yesterday, am a little over 12 hours that was carrying a load of asphalt which leaked on to the roadway. so that on ramp is still closed

because of that crash that happened over 12 hours ago. but the freeway is still clear. chp officer killed in a wild shoot-out on a southern california freeway. new this morning, we now know the victim's name. he is chp officer andre moye. another officer was critically hurt. also new overnight, a procession for the officer. he's the fifth to die in california this year. today in the bay's chris sanchez is monitoring the overnight developments. what led up to this? >> there was a heroic effort to try to save officer moye. him to safety and trying to get him into a patrol car just to get him to the hospital. this is the fallen officer, as you said, officer andre moye, a 33-year-old husband and father who had been with the chp for about four years according to what family members told usa today. he was caught at what turned into a shoot-out with that suspect. the chp and other law

enforcement rushing to the screen. the suspect was in a white pickup truck off i-215 up in riverside county when for some reason he pulled a rifle and started firing. within that chaos, and the credible heroism by -- captured by news cameras, the bullets were still flying. you can see from officer there. the sheriff's department running in to save the two officers who were injured, they are loading them into a squad car and rushing them off to a hospital. chp motorcycles lined up outside that hospital and ultimately led a procession when officer moye's remains were transported. another chp officer was knit in that chaos. he is injured but is expected to survive. the gunman was killed in the shooting. again, the investigation continues as to why this all happened. >> chris, thank you. 4:33 for you right now. it's been more than two weeks since the deadly attack at the garlic festival in gilroy.

that meeting starts at 9:30 this morning. the youngest among those victims, the 6-year-old steven romero. he was laid to rest yesterday in what was the final service for all victims. he liked to dress up as batman and listen to the singer "the weekend. house republicans backed a background check bill in january. the senator has not acted on that bill. following the recent mass shootings, the pressure has been mounting on mcconnell to bring back the senate from summer break to pass that bill. breaking news for the second day in a row, hong kong international airport at a stand still right now. this is new video of protesters

demonstrating there. all departing flights are canceled. yesterday, a similar protest shut down the airport and caused the cancellation of so flights. the protesters are angry over a bill that would allow -- to mainland china. new this morning, victims of california's wildfires can soon ask for help from pg&e. a bankruptcy judge just approved a $105 million fund to help with relief efforts. it will cover victims of a series of fires, including the atlas, camp, nunns and tubbs fires. beginning soon, those people can go to pg&e's website and file for housing assistance and other immediate needs. there are new movement -- or there is a new movement in morning in the controversy over the george washington murl at the san francisco high school. this week, we told you that the schoolboard president is now proposing to cover over that panel.

now an a-list actor and bay area native is getting involved in this fight. danny glover is now part of the group fighting to protect the mural at george washington high school. that includes images of slaves as well as a dead native american. the schoolboard had already voted to paint over the mural, but is now set to consider a new panel proposed today. danny glover says in part, as a washington high school graduate, i've spent my entire life fighting for freedom and the right of artistic expression. i view arnautoff's murals as they were for me, a reminder of theand the mistreatment of native peoples. the search continues this morning for the thief who stole from baseball star alex rodriguez. someone broke into his suv in san francisco making a-rod the latest victim of the smash and grab in the city. he released a statement saying i am encouraged that local law

enforcement has security footage of the crime and are doing all they can to get the items back. rodriguez was in town when hit car was broken into. >> the large police presence told you in no uncertain terms this was not your soerd smash and grab. espn announcer alex rodriguez had just finished doing color commentary and he stopped outside oracle park to take pictures with fans. the source tells us they lost the following items in the suv. bags, a camera and equipment, laptop computer, jewelry including very expensive watches and miscellaneous electrical equipment. >> $500,000 worth of items. >> who has -- that's the most idiotic thing to do in san francisco. are you kidding me? >> police say there are about 70 smash and grabs a day in san

afternoon. we're going to continue to go up from there. the seven-day forecast is up on the screen. expect a high of 95. oakland reaching 84 degrees. half moon bay reaching the upper 60s. redwood some 80s. mostly sunny skies in santa rosa. look for a high of 94 degrees. so it's start to go really heat up out there. good day for something lightweight, light colored, maybe some shorts and sandals would be some good options for you today. even if you're going the be out in front for the bay bridge series that starts today, we will see the temperatures in the low 70s and continuing down into

the mid 60s. so it starts to cool off later on this evening. over the next couple of days, high pressure builds and i think we'll have the hottest day tomorrow. and after that, we start to see the high pressure backing off. a storm system moving into the pacific northwest that will bring us some cooler temperatures and some breezy winds in time for the weekend. so our tear th next three days. speaking tomorrow and starting to come down for the rest of the week. by this weekend, we're in the mid 80s and it's going to be pretty warm into next week. san francisco, we're boosting the temperatures up to the mid 80s. >> you showed a few hundreds in there. whew, pretty warm. san on hi say, there is one issue. an interesting report comes in from chp. 101 around allen rock, a car is

over off to the edge there up on the hillside. but on the real estate there's some dirt, as well. but overnight, someone called and said i think someone is throwing dirt or rocks into the roadway. so there's something to check out h. traffic. but there are a good number of cars heading up into the area. so we're concerned about that. over here, the bay bridge has your typical back up over on the left side. looking at the right side, no one backed up. i do see at least one that has to still open up. over the next few weeks, we'll see that morning commute adjust. so far, though, no changes your community commute. our investigative unit discovered some people turning apartments into hotels.

nbc investigates looked into why a woman couldn't get back on the road. >> when lynn's tire bought new tires at costco, they came with a 50,000 mile needed four new tires already. lynn warranty why? because her tires hadn't been rotated. lynn said they had been rotate and had a dealer had done the rotation. but lynn says costco told her, no, no, the warranty required that costco do the rotation. lynn called us. we checked the costco tire warranty. it says right here, the purchaser must row take and balance their tires as outlined by the vehicle manufacturer. we didn't find anything that stated it had to be done by
