with everyone keeping a much closer eye to the skies. >> making sure when we get weather advisories out here, everyone has taken shelter >> reporter: another lightning close call came two weeks ago. cameras captured a south carolina teacher stumbling after a strike just missed him so far this year lightning killed a dozen people nationwide the most dangerous time, the summer when outdoor recreation collides with a busy storm season officials now stressing the motto, when thunder roars, go indoors. in arkansas it wasn't lightning but heavy rain that proved deadly a portsmouth woman killed, swept away driving through high water. tonight flood watches extend to louisiana. gulf coast residents also watching tropical storm dorian churning in the caribbean. the national hurricane center says it could get stronger by early this week. putting puerto rico and other islands in its path. now, if that storm stays on its current path, the impact here in florida could mean heavy rain, rough surf, and dangerous rip tides, not just here, but all

down this apartment building and a nearby school for hours. deputy reynosa was rushed to the hospital >> he fortunately was wearing a vest the vest saved his life, but the bullet did deflect into his shoulder >> reporter: the only thing, there was no wound there was no shooter turns out the deputy made the whole thing up >> the reported sniper assault was fabricated by our deputy >> reporter: in an unprecedented late night news conference, the los angeles county sheriff's department said reynosa eventually confessed the two bullet holes in his uniform -- >> he had caused the holes in his uniform shirt by cutting it with a knife there was no sniper, no shots fired, completely fabricated >> reporter: the department's disgust captured in this facebook post. embarrassed, furious, unbelievable the 21-year-old rookie still in training is out of a job and under investigation. as his former colleagues want to know why he launched the lie
