4:31 am
headed our way, as we check out our highs, we are going to see our temperatures trending into the mid 80s for the inland east bay, and some low 80s for the south bay, but a few spots will still get hot, reaching into the low 90s, in parts of the east bay and the north bay. so i'll have more on that and what's ahead. as you get ready to head out on the roads this morning, i wanted to give you a wide view of our traffic matp and for the most part we head to wsi2 to get a look at our traffic this morning, everything's flowing well and as we get ready for the start this morning, there is an accident on 880 going southbound, that's at the 66 avenue off-ramp near oakland. we'll be watching that to see if it affects the commute. more on that and weather, coming up in a few minutes. >> thank you very much, kari. 4:31 now. new this morning, a new close call for some san jose homeowners overnight after a fire swept through their backyard. you can see it was a dramatic scene. >> "today in the bay" sharon

4:36 am
person acting out, and i think we need to learn who this person is before we can even begin to make a determination. not seeing necessarily a nexus to domestic terror or international terror at this point. it really appears to be some type of lone individual acting very bizarrely. >> there was very little impact at the airport on this busy travel weekend and no one else was hurt. san jose police are looking for three men they say ran from the scene of a street racing crash, this happened saturday night near feel? and rosenbaum avenues. investigators say a jeep and bmw were racing when the driver of that jeep lost control, slamming into a tree. a 33-year-old and a 26-year-old man, they both were killed. witnesses rushed to try to help the victims. family members say that the pair had just left a family gathering. >> they're my nephews, both of them, both of the victims were cousins. the family is just devastated. terrible, terrible loss.

draw attention to an epidemic among drivers everywhere, which is putting young children at risk. the recent incident captured on a cell phone says it all. a young girl in houston steps off a cool bus after her first day of kindergarten and a car just blows right past that bus with the stop sign extended, nearly hitting that little girl. in some cities and counties, this kind of thing happens frequently. so now, they're using cameras mounted on buses to catch the drivers in the act. experts say that's paying off. >> what these cameras are doing is letting people know there is an additional presence out there to let them know they're doing wrong. >> across the nation, school bus drivers report close to 100,000 illegal passings per day, that amounts to some 17 million over an entire school year. >> you've got to slow down. 4:42 for you right now. coming up here on "today in the bay," it's labor day, and kari has that labor day forecast for you. >> as you get ready to head out this morning, let's take a live look outside in fremont.

here, for transportation, because in california, we have to drive everywhere because everything is so far apart. >> got to drive and sit in traffic everywhere as well. the usta says gavin is one of 350 teens across the country who auditioned online. >> that is super cool. maybe he'll come back home to bay area and advocate for public transportation. that will be his second calling. first singing, then public transportation. >> you've got that man on a busy schedule. >> the little cheeks. >> all right, it's hot already i think. >> yeah, it's a little warm to start and our temperatures in the upper 60s, but look at the fog rolling across the golden gate bridge right now, we're going to see a little bit of that as we go throughout the day but of course we know that makes for some nice pictures. the seven-day forecast is coming up at the bottom of the screen, as we take a look at what you will feel as you get ready to head out the door. some upper 60s for many areas, so yes, it is a warm start. upper 50s in the north bay. in cupertino expect it to be
