and good tuesday morning to you. september 3rd, the day after labor day, and the work week starts today for many of you. it started yesterday for three of the four of us. >> yes. >> one of us had the day off. >> everywhere i went, i was still watching the traffic. >> good morning to you all. thank you for starting your morning with us. i'm marcus washington. >> aim ekris sanchez in for laura garcia, she will be back tomorrow and the forecast is looking not too shabby. >> not bad at all. it's starting to cool off. that's the trend throughout the week with a clear start over the south bay. a live look outside in san jose with the start in the low 60s. we'll start to warm things up,

at noon we're in the low 80s and the inland east bay, santa rosa at 80 degrees and 82 in san jose. we're still going to have a few spots reaching 90, but not as many as we've seen recently. so once again, it will gradually cool off over the next several days and for mike, the drivers say the vacation is over. >> for me, too, so thank you to you and tony for making this happen. the commuters are back in place for the cash lanes to get across the bay bridge. a little low cloud cover cutting off the top of the view. the view on the roadway is fine. we'll track it to see if the low clouds are an issue. it won't be a surprise if they drift down street level. smooth flow of traffic on the seb sores, highway 4 disabled vehicle, and also reports in the south bay for 280. back to you. >> thanks, mike. now to the latest in the southern california boat tragedy. the bodies of 25 people have been recovered, nine are unaccounted for. the search continues this morning. >> "today in the bay's" sharon
4:32 am
katsuda joins us now. is there any hope the nine people might still be found alive? >> unfortunately it's not looking good, kris and marcus. the search continued overnight for the others missing but the coast guard says the search is very difficult, since the boat is 60 feet underwater. we've learned the identity of one of the victims is from the bay area, she was an instructor with the national association of underwater instructors. she loved adventure and had thousands of dives under her belt. so many other families are waiting to hear if their loved ones were on the diving boat "conception" this became an inferno off the waters of santa cruz island. at least 25 people died, five crew members escaped, two suffered minor injuries. several bodies have been loengted on tloengt located on the ocean floor but not recovered due to unsafe conditions. "conception" was in compliance before this tragedy so there are still many unanswered questions
4:33 am
as to what caused the fire. >> i know i've been on "conception" many times, and a lot of people look at it and say the crew didn't do anything to the people down below. there's a small staircase that goes down below. if it's engulfed in flames there's no way the crew could get down in time to help them. i know the ship. >> another good samaritan pleasure craft called "the great escape" helped rescue the crew members. the husband and wife on "the great escape" say crew members told them some of the divers were celebrating birthdays and included families on board. as for the victim out of santa cruz, she studied fish and corals in the tahitian island and counted salmon for the city of santa cruz. her family is asking for privacy. our thoughts go out to the families. kris and marcus? >> it's hard to hear that families are all out together looking to do something fun and something happens. thank you, sharon. >> absolutely.
4:34 am
the company that operates the boat involved in the fire is a well-known company in the bay area scuba diving community. we talked with two divers who spent several days on board the "conception" itself. they say the staff was dedicated and safety was a priority. >> the crew was always keeping things spotless and clean and well maintained and i can't say enough good things about the crew and the staff and it will cut me, but it's a terrible accident. >> the crew sleeps on the third level of the boat, wasn't able to make contact with the passengers that sleep in the sleeping quarters on the first level of the boat. >> one of those divers says that while he was on board that boat, the crew always gave divers a safety briefing and pointed out life jackets and pointed out the escape routes. stay with nbc bay area for all the latest on this developing story. we will livestream news conference for you this morning, that begins at 10:00 on our nbc bay area app. it's a great resource to keep
