7:09 am
their homes and businesses before local officials give them the okay. >> craig, thank you very much. >> a lot of people want to know where the storm is headed. al is in the with the track. >> that's been the frustrating thing. it has been stationary almost 24 hours. this live radar, including our wtvj station in miami. you can see right now that the western end of this is raggedy looking. the dry air is weakening the storm. here is the latest as we put this in motion. you can see we are looking at showers and thunderstorms now wrapping around this system. the latest locator from the national hurricane center, it is 110 miles east/northeast of west palm beach, florida, 120 miles per hour winds, and it is stationary. here's the latest as far as the watches and warnings. we've got hurricane warnings now from jacksonville and just north of there all the way down just south of west palm beach and
7:10 am
inland we've got tropical storm warnings as well as the hurricane warnings continue through the bahamas. here's the track, by tomorrow morning it's a category three storm with 120 miles per hour winds. it runs along the coast. by wednesdayr thursday morning, it's along between savaah and charleston, and those winds will be bringing in that storm surge, and then by friday morning it's just off the coast of north carolina and then continues to rocket on through and out into the atlantic, but just south of boston there within that cone of uncertainty. why has it been so slow? look at this between friday and saturday, 250 miles, 210 miles between saturday and sunday: by monday it had traveled 140 miles, and then takes a look at what happens. it just kind of comes grinding to a halt between monday and today only 20 miles. why? high pressure has been dominating pushing dorian rapidly west, that high pressure's beeing and there's been nothing to pick it up until this trough of low pressure and jet stream picks it up theoretically and shoots it out.
7:11 am
but until that happens, we still have to worry about everybody within that cone, especially along the southeastern atlantic coast until it gets picked up and finally starts its forward movement, which we expect later today, guys. al, thank you. the other big story we're following this morning, that horrific fire on a dive boat off the sohe california coast. overnight, a somber update. search and rescue crews have located the bodies of even more passengers. nbc's gadi schwartz joins us from the harbor with the latest on this. hi gadi, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, savannah, this was the home port for that 75 foot boat, the conception. it was usually berthed right here in this harbor. instead today we've got a memorial with candles, people leaving flowers overnight. the dive community here leaving a flower. just off the way here, you can see there are two sheriff's boats there getting ready to go out and assist with the recovery effort, but the loss of life out

here absolutely staggering. 25 people dead, another nine people that are still lost and presumed missing. all of them presumed to have been trapped underneath the bottom deck of that boat, and the only people that were able to make it out alive were five members of the crew that were able to escape in a small inflatable raft. this morning witnesses are still in shock, this chilling call for help heard over an emergency radio. the 75 foot diving vessel, the conception going up in flames early monday morning off the coast of california's channel islands. >> it's just horrendous. i mean, i can't imagine, you know, those poor people had to have been just a horror. >> bob hanson had been sleeping aboard his boat, the great escape when he heard banging on the side of his hull. >> i hear somebody pounding on the boat and yelling, i open the door and the five guys are there
7:13 am
in their dinghy, they're asking me to help them and their boat is just, you know 400 yards away fully engulfed. >> four crew members and the captain of the conception managed to escape the inferno, but underneath the deck were 33 passengers and another crew member believed to be asleep when the fire broke out. >> did they say anything about their passengers? >> they said all of them were underneath. they told me then that there was another exit but that that exit was also blocked. >> so there were two ways out? >> yeah. >> >> but both of them were blocked? >> both of them were blocked. >> reporter: the boat's location made it difficult for responders to reach, the coast guard calling all boats nearby to help. >> any vessels in the area that can lend any assistance, please do so. >> could you guys hear anybody calling for help, or was it silent? >> silent. except the sound of the fire. >> reporter: the coast guard says prior inspections show the conception in full compliance with safety regulations. >> this is probably the worst-case scenario you could possibly have. >> reporter: photos show the
7:14 am
cramped sleeping quarters below deck. >> i could see holes that there was fire on the other side of that window. >> and that's where the people were? >> yeah, yeah. >> reporter: this morning as the grim search for the missing continues, many are praying for a miracle, but officials are preparing for the worst. >> i think we all should be prepared to move into the worst outcome. >> reporter: now, so far authorities have not released any of the names of the victims. they are still working on notifying next of kin. however, we did ask the captain of the great escape about what those crew members said about the passengers underneath. they were absolutely inconsolable. the captain said that they -- that one of the men said that his girlfriend was trapped below deck. another said that they had just celebrated the birthdays of three different passengers underneath the night before.
7:15 am
one of them was a 17-year-old girl who was on a scuba diving trip with her family. still, no word on what may have caused all of this, but the ntsb has sent a team of 16 to assist in this investigation. last night a scare that sent passengers running from the terminal >> don't run too fast. >> the panic was sparked by a flight attendant who became nervous after a conversation with a couple of passengers. more than 150 people fled the area some even left their luggage behind after a few minutes the passengers were allowed back into the terminal. it was determined there was no threat all passengers and employees were rescreened as a precaution. you guys want to talk tennis >> of course we do. >> another exciting day at the u.s. open right here in new york we're going to start with the big upset, though, the women's
