"today in the bay" continues right now. a very good morning to you and thanks so much for joining us. i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm scott mcgrew. we'll have weather in a minute. bob redell is out at a deadly crash, he has the very latest as they are clearing that for the morning commute. good morning, bob. >> reporter: and within the past few moments, scott and laura, northbound 85 at evelyn here in mountain view has reopened, that's why we moved our position, northbound 85 is that overpass behind us, this after this horrible crash that happened around 1:00 this morning. we want to show you images put out by the mountain view fire department, gives you a sense of how horrific this crash was. the suv driving the wrong way on northbound 85 collided with a honda civic. that suv caught fire, both drivers were killed as a result, around 12:55 this morning.

that wrong-way driver was headed down northbound 85 when it collided head-on with the driver of the honda civic, roughly at the central expressway overpass this occurred. we know the driver of the honda civic was a 35-year-old man from american canyon. the suv registered in mountain view as i mentioned it caught fire and we have learned that driver was a woman. what do you expect was going on with the wrong-way driver? why were they driving the wrong direction? >> it's hard to say. wrong-way drivers are typically caused by impairment. it can sometimes be confusion, but based on the time of day, it could have been anything right now. we don't have anything firmly indicating that, but in general, wrong-way drivers do tend to be impaired drivers or those who are kind of confused. >> reporter: chp says at least two other drivers avoided hitting that wrong-way driver but their calls to 911 did not arrive until after this accident

again which was around 1:00 this morning. if you're commuting in the south bay all lanes of northbound 85 at evelyn have been reopened. reporting live here in mountain view, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> okay, good news at least for commuters out there. >> and mike has been watching that effect on the commute, that's good news. we have an open highway there. >> that's right, so fortunately bob covered things so quickly at the scene that i didn't have time to change this, folks, opening to open, to reopen, going from red to orange now through the area northbound 85 again full access, cupertino, sunnyvale, mountain view toward northbound 101, just as that portion recovers we see some more slowing just starting up for this portion of 101 in san jose, right by 680. that's the traditional pattern on a friday. we zoom out because we have another traffic alert continuing, this is coming in to san leandro, out of hayward and castro valley, north 238, north 880 jammed up because at marina boulevard we had for a short

period of time all lanes affected by a crash, a box truck, a trailer, the trailer had a boat on it but it was not attached to anything, blocking yurg fast lanes. northbound 880 at marina the traffic alert continues. north of san leandro everything is fine toward the bay bridge. the bay bridge is the bay bridge. >> wow, all right. backed up. it's going to be a hot day. we are under a microclimate weather alert. a heat advisory in effect for all of these areas shaded in orange, that's going to go into effect from 11:00 this morning until 7:00 this evening, hot temperatures again today. it's also a spare the air alert day, if you can, catch transit on your way to work. it will be in the low 60s heading out to the dublin b.a.r.t. station and in the tri-valley, we're going to have some really hot temperatures, look at this trend going straight up, reaching the mid-90s by early afternoon and as we look at all of our microclimates, our temperatures going at noon into the low 90s in the inland east bay, as well as the north bay, but we will see some triple digits here by

livermore, danville, as well as concord and in morgan hill. we're going to have one really hot day but we have some relief in the forecast. i'll show you that, it's coming up in about six minutes. >> we wish the relief was coming sooner rather than later. thousands are about to experience that extreme heat that kari is talking about. there's a big festival going on in the south bay. kris sanchez joins us live in downtown san jose. a lot of people want to go to this, like a free concert but you got to be prepared, right, kris? >> reporter: yes, you definitely have to be prepared. arena green is set up and ready to go, we expect it's going to be maybe even hotter than 100 degrees out here, so if you're planning to be outside here in san jose or anywhere around the bay, make sure you hydrate before hand. never wait until you're thirsty to drink water and since it is the weekend we'll mention that alcohol doesn't quite count as hydration. if your kids are playing sports, make sure they have ten gulps of

water per 20 minutes of play, a gulp is about an hr of water. so about 16 ounces over an hour. avoid strenuous activity, don't exercise outside if you can help it, and take breaks indoors if you can. check out this graphic on your screen, on the left-hand side the symptoms of heat exhaustion, feeling faint or dizzy, sweating excessively, with cold, clammy skin, exhaustion can make you nauseous and crampy. if you feel this way, get out of the heat, drink some water, take a cold shower, use cold wash cloths but if you feel the symptoms of heat stroke, or see the signs in someone else, it's time to call 911. the signs no sweating, headache, vomiting or loss of consciousness. if your plan to beat the heat is head to san francisco or the beach, it's going to be hot there as well. heat related illnesses can double during heat waves. >> it's easy to get numb to it and think eh, it's just 90, there are people in georgia who

have it worse, but for us in san francisco, we really want to encourage people to take it seriously. >> so this whole festival here to celebrate the 25st anniversary of the s.a.p. center and blake shelton is going to be headlines. it is a free event so we expect there will be a lot of people headed out here. but the festival runs from 2:00 in the afternoon until 7:00 in the evening when the heat advisory is in effect and we'll feel the peak temperatures. be sure you are prepared, drink water ahead of time and take precautions because we don't want to report on anybody being sick because of the heat. kris sanchez, "today in the bay." >> thank you, kris. breaking news in to our newsroom, major movement for pg&e following the devastating north bay wildfires and efforts to exit bankruptcy. the utility has reached an $11 billion settlement with insurance companies. the money would cover 85% of

claims from the fires back in 2017, sadly leaving nearly 100 people dead. it is the utility's second insurance settlement this summer related to the fires. a short time ago pg&e released a statement saying in part "today's settlement is another step in doing what is right for the communities, businesses, and individuals affected by the devastating wildfires." earlier this week pg&e offered victims 8.4 billion. lawyers and lobbyists say the money was not enough. an investigation determined downed power lines ignited the fires. to decision 2020, after another contentious debate in houston, ten candidates took the stage, others aren't giving up. one of the key discussions gun control. this morning no clarity on what new laws president trump is considering. ed it "today in the bay's" tracie potts says nancy pelosi

sunrise under way, as we take a live look in san jose t is a cool start but in santa teresa we'll go from 63 to 93 at 1:00 this morning. whatever you have to do oue, whether it's working, doing errands or even going for a workout, try to get it in before 10:00, when those temperatures really heat up. here is a look at our highs for today reaching 102 in concord. we may set a new record there, and we'll be close to a record in hayward. also watching the near record temperatures in napa and in santa rosa, as we reach the upper 90s. san francisco today 86 degrees. we'll take a look ahead to the forecast in just a few minutes and mike, you still have one active traffic alert. >> that's right, but one is cleared in the south bay, mountain view, sunnyvale, north 85 reopened a few minutes ago and quickly got back up to speed, because the south bay has a very light traffic flow right now, and all over the bay we're seeing that friday pattern, we're checking on a disabled vehicle reported around university, just getting off of

highway 84, it doesn't look like it's affecting the on or off ramps through the area. the east bay is the traffic alert which continues northbound 880 is jammed up, just high of marina boulevard, a trailer with a boat on it is blocking the roadway. north 85, north 880 the fast lane is blocked by a boat traveling through san leandro, that affects castro valley y that affects coming out of san leandro and hayward for northbound nimitz, anywhere north of there it's fine through the area. the south bay we have the recovery from the earlier sig alert that had 85 closed in the northbound direction and the maze itself moves smoothly. the backup is at the bay bridge. back to you. >> thank you, mike. 6:11. would you call this a bargain? the going price for san francisco's least expensive home. but first, a new effort bay area tech companies are making to increase access to local news where it's needed most. you're watching "today in the bay."

good friday morning. our microclimate weather alert continues right now at 6:14 with a live look outside in palo alto. we do start out with some cool temperatures, low 60s this morning, but it will warm up, before you know it, we'll be in the low 90s, that's where we're headed for noon, and then reaching into the upper 90s later on today. we'll see some really hot temperatures today, but some big relief in the forecast.

more on that in less than five minutes. >> and we're looking at this, the traffic alert that continues over in the east bay, north 880 jammed up. also coming off the castro valley y from north 238 sky ranger over there at the scene checking out this, it looks like we have, yes, there it is, there's a boat blocking part of the nimitz and facing the wrong direction. we're tracking this activity and we'll talk about the recovery from the other traffic alert that cleared from the south bay. good morning. i'm frank holland at cnbc headquarter. here are today's top business headlines. futures pointing to a higher open on wall street today extending yesterday's gains and inching closer to new record highs at the close, the dow rose 45 points and the s&p added 8, small gains but now both averages are less than a percent away from record levels. we'll see if we can keep up that momentum today. this morning data showed better than expected august retail sales and later on a check of consumer sentiment.

the u.s./china trade war is worrying chief financial officers across the globe. that's according to a new cnbc survey. nearly two-thirds of cfos see u.s. trade policy as the biggest external threat to their business while 16% say it's china, 60% of u.s.-based cfos say their companies have plans in case the trade war gets worse. in the meantime, nearly a quarter say they've had to raise prices to offset the cost of tariffs. google and facebook are making further changes to the way they handle news. google will adjust its search algorithm to prioritize original reporting of a rival publication's follow-up coverage which can overshadow the original report. facebook is expanding a program aimed at bringing local stories to its users in so-called news deserts. it will add more than 5,000 cities to the program, which users must opt in to. scott and laura, back over to you. >> thank you, frank. a short time ago the house judiciary committee said google, apple and facebook would have to

track. >> with the groo greaffiti on t front. >> ambience. >> it's an art car. >> an art car. love 'em. >> it's going to be hot. >> and so if you don't have air conditioning it will be rough today so as we get started this morning, getting ready to head out the door, we're making preparations as we now still have some cool temperatures, getting ready for that hot day. here is a live look outside from our san bruno mountain camera. we are still going to have the drifts of smoke coming by and that reduces our air quality, and that will mostly be the case for the inland east bay, as well as the south bay, unhealthy air quality today, due to some wildfires farther to the north, kind of drifting in, and it's also a day where we advise everyone to catch public transit, if you can, and pleasant hill start out in the low 60s as you head to the b.a.r.t. station. we'll be at 73 degrees at 9:00 and then some mid-90s for early afternoon. you'll want to find some air conditioning, because our high

temperatures in the south bay 97 downtown, but up to 102 in game r gilroy and the east bay highs over 100 degrees. antioch 102. we may set a new record today in concord, we're expecting it to reach 102 today, and also hayward may tie the record high temperature of 94 degrees. for the peninsula we have mid-90s here for palo alto and redwood city. san francisco in the upper 80s in the mission district and the embarcadero, and the north bay up to 98 in santa rosa, ukiah today reaching 100 degrees. we do have some relief in the forecast, all because of a storm system to our north that could start to drop in, headed in toward the end of the weekend and it looks like by sunday we're seeing more clouds. monday there could be some spotty showers in the north bay, but it does look like it's kind of falling apart, may not reach much of the bay area but nice to have that chance to start out the week and it will also help cool us off and clear out the

air from the wildfires recently. as we go through the forecast drastic changes ahead, going from summer to fall all in the span of a couple of days. 'reoing from 101 today to 96 tomorrow, 83 on su, and then north bay chance of showers on monday with highs all across the bay area in the mid-70s. also hot in san francisco today, but some relief coming this weekend. mike, now you still have that boat on the nimitz? >> that is correct. now i know the nimitz is the name of a larger ship, but we're talking about the nimitz the freeway and smaller boat, nice size but not for being on the freeway, blocking your fast lane by crews trying to clear it. the boat is on the flatbed now. it was on a trailer on the suv that was pulling it, involved in a crash with a box truck. it looks like they've gotten other vehicles out of the area, and so now folks traveling north on the nimitz are looking head-on toward a boat that's a curious case that will cause some slowing as you see folks are slowing and the remaining

four lanes to get through the area, chp on the shoulder as well and there is presumably the box truck involved in the original crash. we look at this slowing, now out to the map, this is north 880 traveling up to marina. once you jump on at davis you're clear getting toward the bay bridge there say problem coming out of castro valley, north 238 slow the entire way from 580 and 580 westbound is clear. if you can choose between 880 and 580, choose 580, that's clear as a bell, so is the rest of 580 and 680 at the dublin interchange. the disabled vehicle in palo alto and menlo park not causing much of an issue, dumbarton bridge getting toward highway 101 and the south bay. slowing north 101, a build for 87 but 85 the earlier traffic alert has cleared at the sunnyvale mountain view border. travel times toward the bay bridge, that's the slowing, the result of the slowing north i showed you in san leandro. back to you. >> thank you, mike. live from new york, it's already some elation and

temperatures in some of these areas reach over 100 degrees, but it's also a spare the air alert day, if you can, catch public transit, a bus, or carpool. it's going to be one of those hot days where we're trying to reduce our ozone emissions, and so we are going to start out with temperatures in the south bay at 66 degrees, 82 at 11:00, rather at 10:00, and then some mid-90s going into early afternoon. here is a look at all of our high temperatures with some triple digits expected in the inland east bay, tri-valley, as well as the north bay. so i'll have a look, a closer look at this and also the weekend forecast coming up in a few minutes. but mike, you are still checking on that boat that's in the middle of the freeway. >> that's right, kari. alternate forms of transportation but the boat was not going to help folks. it's hindering but now the players remain, the boat has just been cleared from the nimitz freeway, yes, the boat cleared from the nimitz. here is a box truck that was involved in the crash as well as an suv pulling that boat trailer. this activity on the shoulder is a distraction, the flares until they burn out will also cause

folks to shift over. the fast lane is once again open north 880, around marina boulevard. the nimitz backup already started to clear and push up in toward the area. anywhere north of marina you're okay. everything is fine and if you're looking for that boat on the freeway, sorry, you missed the boat. south bay looks a little bit of slowing for friday. everything is a little bit lighter and a little later to start, no major problems getting across the dumbarton bridge, and again, that deadly crash has cleared from northbound 85, so while that is a huge story t is not having any traffic impact because lanes are clear in sunnyvale and mountain view. back to you. >> we are still following breaking news this morning, it was just a devastating fiery crash overnight. look at this scene. this involved a wrong-way driver leaving two people dead, shut down the south bay freeway for hours. mike mentioned it is clear now but "today in the bay's" bob redell was on the scene all morning long, talking to chp. what are investigators saying now that that road is back open,

bob? >> reporter: they're trying to figure out why this woman was driving the wrong way. they have their suspicions. within the past 30 minutes chp reopened all lanes of northbound 85 at evelyn in mountain view, after this horrific crash earlier this morning that killed two people. this happened just before 1:00 this morning. the driver a redford suv, she was heading south on northbound 85, that's the wrong way, when she collided head-on with a driver of a honda civic at the central expressway overpass. both drivers were killed. th driver of the honda civic was a 35-year-old man from american canyon. as you can see in these photos put out by the mountain view fire department that suv caught fire, it burned up. there was actually a small vegetation fire on the side of the road firefighters were able to put out. the suv we know is registered here in mountain view and as i mentioned we know the driver was a woman. chp looking into whether or not she was impaired. if that means drinking and driving, or something else.

chp said at least two other drivers avoided hitting that wrong-way driver but unfortunately their calls to 911 did not get made until after this accident. again, if you're commuting in the south bay, all lanes of northbound highway 85 are reopened at evelyn here in mountain view. reporting live in mountain view, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> a horrific crash out there, thank you, bob. it is 6:34. people living south of salinas may have felt a shaking after two small earthquakes, just a few hours apart. the most recent was a 3.8 about midnight. a few hours before that a 3.4 in the same area. it was centered near pinnacles in san benito. no reports of any damage. >> 6:34. check out this video showing a burglary attempt in pleasanton wednesday morning. the man kicking in the front door several times until he got it open. all of this while the homeowner was upstairs?

the shower. the man kicking the door did not realize anybody was there. the homeowner told us she started screaming and he took off. >> i grabbed a towel, wrapped myself in a towel, again, just yelling as loud as i could, because i didn't know what was going on. >> the thief ran to a nearby car that drove from the scene. police say they have some leads. new this morning a look at surveillance images police looking for the man they say robbed a bank in pleasant hill. he passed a note to the bank teller and got away with an unknown amount of cash. all that's left of the dive boat that erupted in flames on labor day morning in southern california is handed to investigators. salvage crews pulled up the wreckage yesterday. in the meantime investigators now believe the crew violated regulations they say all crew members were asleep at the time of the fire. even though someone was required to be awake. the bay area diver we spoke to says he never observed that on his frequent trips aboard the "conception." >> when they're out of the main

harbor like that, there's normally somebody on a night watch that's keeping an eye on things in general, you know, make sure that the boat doesn't drift, there's any current, if it gets too windy, things like that. >> unone of the boat owners attorneys released a statement, "based on our internal investigation at this point, one crew member was awake and inspected the galley and saloon area as late as 2:30 in the morning to make sure everything was safe and sound." the fire was first reported about 45 minutes later, it killed 34 people, including 23 from northern california. starting today and for the next ten days, if you got friends coming in to check out the bay area sights you may want to warn them. san francisco cable cars are going to be out of service. crews will be doing repair work on the 20 ton gear boxes, who move the cable cars along san francisco's steep hills. tourists were caught by surprise

yesterday at the powell street turnaround. many trying to get a ride before the closure. >> trolley cars mean san francisco to me, from all i've heard. >> so for the many tourists who will no doubt be caught off guard they have to settle for a bus on the same route. they're not going to the cable car turn-around, they'll stop at bus stops and you see also the trolleys as well, that would be kind of fun, maybe a different experience. >> so the san francisco treat is the bus. >> right. >> rice-a-roni is still there. >> still there and the market street trolley the historic ones are still running. >> the historic cars are great out there. we were trying to build it up for the tourists. hi, folks, welcome to the bay area. look at the freeway, and experience bay area traffic in earnest and if you'd rather call it something cooler, cable cars being replaced by tire buses, take that back home. over here looking at the freeways, looking pretty smooth. it's friday, and everything's pretty calm, now that the second

it's going to be very much like yesterday evening, but it will cool off as the evening goes along, around sunset, we're at 70 degrees, and that's when it will start to feel nicer and as we check out some other festivals happening around the bay area this weekend, you might want to check out the mariachi festival in hayward, at the city hall today starting at 5:00. we'll start out with warm weather at 88 degrees. if you go a little bit later in the evening you'll have temperatures in the upper 70s, dropping back to the low 70s by about 9:00. let's get a look at our saturday forecast. it is hot in the valleys. the bay reaching the mid 80s. it may be a beach weekend for a lot of people, where the coast will be in the low 70s but we will also have the 5k walk for wellness, our own mike inouye will be out there emceeing and this is happening in fremont, tomorrow morning, starting at 9:00, we'll be at 68 degrees. get there early, get under the shade if you can, especially as we go throughout the rest of the day as our temperatures warm up.

we're looking at alsohe black-eyed pea festival in oakland, this is an event i enjoyed last year, we're going to see the temperatures reaching into the mid-70s, all throughout the day, with that live music playing. on sunday, it starts to cool off. it's going to be nice all across the bay area, with some mid 80s inland. the bay at 78 and the coast in the upper 60s. that's more like it. look at the major cooling we'll have in the tri-valley this weekend. these are the high temperatures, on friday today we're up to 102. tomorrow 95, and then 79 on sunday, so you may make your plans outside, according to the day, it will feel the most comfortable. if you're going to the sierra, lake tahoe is looking good with low 80s tomorrow, and then 74 degrees on sunday. we'll get a look at today's temperature trend for the south bay, that's coming up in three minutes. >> sounds good. 6:40. coming up, could b.a.r.t.'s fleet of the future be a death trap? next and all new, the alarming warning from train operators

our temperatures peak today it's going to be hot. a live look in the south bay and our sunnyvale temperature trend normally reaching the low 80s but these temperatures just go off the charts, we're going to be in the low 90s at 2:00 today in sunnyvale. we'll get a look at all of our microclimates, and make plans for the weekend coming up in less than five minutes. >> and sunshine confirmed. same thing for the metering lights at the bay bridge, we're looking at the backup but it's friday so it's a little bit lighter there. concerned because as the traffic alert clears from san leandro we're looking for more traffic on the nimitz. the speed time looks okay, as you travel through oakland. we'll show you the live look coming up. >> thanks so much, kari and mike. it's 6:44 right now. our other top stories b.a.r.t. operators are reportedly raising safety concerns about the transit agency's new fleet of the future. according to the examiner some drivers believe the trains could potentially trap and kill passengers. they believe the doors are tough to open and because they face each other present an added barrier in the event of an

emergency. operators say they brought up the issue at two recent board meetings. b.a.r.t. is downplaying the claims. those concerned about b.a.r.t.'s fleet come as muni says it fixed its faulty train car doors. you may recall in april a muni passenger got her hand caught in a malfunctioning door, trying to get off one of the trains but got sucked under the platform whenherain started going. she is okay. the mta also stopped running two car trains around the same time after our investigative unit revealed the train's couplers had a design flaw that caused them to break. the agency says both issues have been fixed. going back to b.a.r.t. and a follow-up. b.a.r.t. will officially get a new home. b.a.r.t. directors approved a plan to buy a building in downtown oakland that will eventually serve as the new headquarters. the lease on its current headquarters which expires in 2021, let's look at the new building, cost $227 million.

but b.a.r.t. says in the long run the agency will save money because it will own that new building. elevated e. coli levels are reportedly being found in a popular sacramento swimming spot were the american river meets the sacramento river. some of the highest levels along the lower stretch of the american river, that area also has a high homeless population. human waste is believed to be a big contributor. "the bee" says 13 of 15 testings in june exceeded federal and state standards, but so far, the city has not issued a warning. >> 6:46. friends and supporters of a mentally ill walnut creek man killed three months ago by police are demanding action, rallying last night outside city hall calling for the department to discipline officers who shot and killed mylz hall in june. police eventually released body cam video showing hall was carrying a metal bar. police say he was a threat to

responding officers, but family members think otherwise. >> you need to see what the community is asking and they're asking that these officers are taken off the street because how can you -- you betrayed a community and betrayed a family. >> family members believe tasers should have been used, not lethal force. they announced the civil suit yesterday against the city, the department and the officers involved. >> it's 6:47 right now. california lawmakers are passing a new ban on the use of facial recognition in police body cameras. the vote comes after the software incorrectly identified 26 people as criminal suspects. governor gavin newsom now has until october to sign or veto that bill. he hasn't said yet if he supports the measure. leaders in oakland, in san francisco have already approved similar bans. at the state capitol lawmakers are looking to tighten rules for kids using social media.

quality. our temperatures as you step out would be in the low 60s in dublin. we'll see our temperatures quickly heating up, we're going up to 88 degrees at 11:00, and then some mid-90s by early afternoon. as you can see in the seven-day forecast at the bottom of the screen, some major cooling headed our way. we have to make it through today and tomorrow, and as we go hour by hour we're taking our temperatures for all of our microclimates way up into the noon hour, we're seeing a lot of 80s and some low 90s, and then reaching up over 100 degrees in spots like livermore, danville, concord, and morgan hill. we're also going to see some mid-90s in the south bay, and then as we go into this evening, it will cool off but it will take its time as this high pressure gets centered overhead. it will continue to move and we're also going to see some drifts of smoke, all clear skies today but as the storm system approaches by the end of the weekend we'll see more clouds on sunday, and even a chance of rain on monday, so let's go through this.

as we go into the weekend, once again hot on saturday, clear sunday, more clouds, as the storm system moves in, and it looks like there could be some spotty, light showers for the north bay on monday morning, as we're headed to work. the line of light rain may fall apart before it makes it through the rest of the bay area, but something to watch, as our temperatures cool off for early next week. so look at these temperatures going from 101 today to 96 tomorrow, highs on sunday up to about 86 degrees and then 75 on monday. then it will warm up again for the middle of next week, but san francisco going from the mid 80s today to the upper 60s this sunday. mike, you're tracking that recovery for the nimitz freeway. >> that's right, kari. we were tracking the live camera here past the coliseum, the volume holding steady right there, and the nimitz not really seeing the burst of traffic after that traffic alert cleared, coming out of marina boulevard coming out of san leandro at the bottom of your screen.

even though all lanes are clear it's still a little slow. the east shore freeway and build for the richmond to san rafael bridge, westbound is the commute starting to slow down a bit more. this is holding steady with a slower, more gradual clearing but i think what's going on is at marina boulevard a lot of flares have to burn out so while folks pass the flare they're rightly so being cautious through the area, until those burn out we'll see slowing coming off of 238 and north out of san leandro and hayward. hayward is moving smoothly through the area. the san mateo bridge does build and there was a crash west 92 around highway 101 but looks like everything is off the roadway. maybe some vehicles visible but not much of an issue because of lighter traffic flow. the south bay also shows you northbound routes, with some slowing pushing in through san jose and building up toward the rest of silicon valley now. by the time we get to palo alto it's clear, a nice easy flow of traffic here. there's that sun, kari has those high temperatures you saw those, back to you. >> thank you, mike. >> 6:52 right now.

after this deadly wrong-way crash. the chp says a woman driving the wrong way in an suv crashed into a honda civic earlier this morning. both drivers died. we know the driver of the civic was a 35-year-old man from american canyon. the suv driver has not been identified. there were no passengers in either vehicle. all northbound lanes were closed for about five hours. more breaking news, pg&e announcing within the last hour it has reached an $11 billion settlement with insurance companies. the money would cover 85% of claims from the fires, going back three years, which includes the devastating north bay wildfires, and the camp fire in butte county. it is the utility's second insurance settlement in summer related to those fires. pg&e's downed power lines were found responsible for some of the wildfires. in just a few hours, actress felecity huffman is set to be the first parent sentenced in the college admissions cheating scandal.

huffman pleaded guilty to federal charges in may. the actress admitted she paid $15,000 to boost her daughter's s.a.t. score by having wrong answers corrected. the u.s. attorney's office is recommending huffman spend one month in jail and pay a $20,000 fine. topping hood an fda panel is set to decide the future of a so-called peanut pill to combat allergies. we've been following progress on the story closely. patients would take a pill once a day. someone with a peanut allergy would develop a tolerance and negative reactions would stop. back to our forecast this morning we're issuing a microclimate weather alert. a live look across the bay area. temperatures already starting to heat up, as we're entering the weekend. today san francisco could hit the 90s and inland areas can expect temperatures closer to 100. a live look in san jose, where arena green set to celebrate the s.a.p. center's 25th anniversary day, but if you're planning to be outside here or anywhere
