hears them. the news starts right now. good evening everyone, thank you for joining us, i am terry mcsweeney. we begin with the development story in downtown san jose, some frightening moment after firefighters say a suspended gunman barricaded himself inside the building and set several fires. mari marian favro has the latest on this three alarm fire. >> reporter: the smoke was so thick that we could not see down the street. now more than three hours later, firefighters are still inside the building mopping up. when they first arrived, they had to enter the smoky building knowing possible lyany an armed may be inside. firefighters say he then return and barricaded himself inside

then set fires in the building in multiple places. police told firefighters the man was still inside and possibly armed but police could not go in because of the fire. >> at this point, there is a potential for us to have an armed person inside the building so we are moving very slowly in that direction. >> a little bit scary because you never know how fast it will spread. >> reporter: firefighters say so far they have not encountered the gunman. they did find the fire had spread to the interior walls they evacuated the top floor and surrounding businesses. there is also a possibility that the suspect fled to the liquor store next door. several witnesses told us they heard what they thought was gunfire. police confirmed that no shots were fired tonight. firefighters had to battle a three-alarm arson fire. right now they're still at the scene, they're going to be here at a couple more hours at least

it happened at an apartment complex on campbell. neighbors ran out to fight the flames. no injuries reported because of that fire. still unknown. a bizarre police chase and standoff shutdown highway 101 in the north bay hours this morning. it started 6:30. you can see that blast right there. the man behind the wheel refused to get out t car. the standoff ended when the s.w.a.t. team used non-lethal tactics to get him out. the oracle begins tomorrow. some 60,000 people are expected to be there. howard street is going to stay open, some lanes and surrounding streets may be closed.

chances, highs in the 70s and bay area standards that sends to feel muggy outside. mid-70s around san jose in the tri-valley. rain chances mainly for the first half of the day. 60s to low 70s, san francisco, once again in the mid to upper 60s with some rain chances early in the day and clearing skies for the afternoon. look at that north bay temperatures in the 70s for your monday. your storm rangers picking up on mists and drizzles. that's the main frontal boundary for the system which will arrive mid-morning. if this is correct anywhere from about a tenth of an eninch of rain. now the all important hour by hour outlook of a chance of seeing some showers. by 6:00 a.m., you can see we'll look at a chance of those showers crossing through the central bay area. notice around san jose and as we hit towards the afternoon and

environment and it is shown electric vehicles are much better for the environment. electric cars won't go anywhere without electricity. >> how can you make charging electric vehicle better than having to go to a gas station. that's the mission of silicon valley charge point, trying to replace gas pumps with these. they installed 100,000 charging stations so far. each one aiming to bring a gas powered car owner into the electric full. >> i tell people it is okay. there is infrastructure out there and the charging infrastructure actually keeping pace with the adoption of electr electric vehicles. a mission to convince drivers going electric, plugging in and cleaning up. they charge 1.6 billion miles electrically so far. that avoided some 227 million kilograms in greenhouse gases.

still up here. we think this band will start to weaken across the bay area that holds together long enough. mid-morning tomorrow through probably about lunchtime to drop potentially the most rain we have seen since late spring. so when you are talking about just a quarter inch of rain does not seem a big deal. road ways we are really have not seen that amount of rain or quite some time. the combination of oil built up and any chance of showers for the morning commute in midday could cause some issues on the road ways. you notice how the number stop moving around 5:00 as most of this should be out of here. right now we are seeing the clouds filling in and light spotty areas and drizzles through midnight. main event right around mid-morning through early afternoon as far as maybe 12:00 to 1:00 for places like san jose and mid afternoon and evening and rain chances start to move

tonight a story about an amazing gift from one stranger to another. robin thomas explains how one post brought to families together. this is the story about a search for a kidney. the family of the boy who needed says for the search, they had to put a lot of faith in god, in the kindness of strangers and well, facebook. >> we hear a lot these days about the ill of social media. but every once in a while in the hands of susie leroy, it could be the opposite. a life saving. >> susie is much too modest. >> i am a piece of the puzzle. >> susie is a mother of three living in clovis outside of fresno. last fall she spot add facebook post from a local mom desperate to find a kidney for her two earlier son. >> i am shaking my head, okay.

susie never really thought she would be a match but getting tested seems like a nice gesture. >> i never thought i am going to be the one. i am the mom on social media thinking man, that's you know, i want to be praying for them. i want to be following them and find out what happened. >> a lot of praying and testing later and susie was a match. but, still, could she really follow through with it? >> would i give a complete stranger my kidney? would i do this? well, okay, if it was my child yes, of course i would do this. if it was my nephew, yes, i would do this. i went through my neighbor and i was literally driving and thinking of all these people, would i do it? yeah. >> susie messaged caleb's parents, mandie and kevin with the good news. >> i was putting him to bed and

i saw that and i instantly started crying and i was like who is this. >> getting to tell her was a great moment. i will always remember that. >> caleb had been born with a condition called prune belly. one of his kidneys removed and his second, just about to fail when susie came to the rescue. the surgery took place in may at the children's hospital, lucille hospital, and it was a success. susie is no longer a stranger. it was never really her kidney to begin with. she was holding it for caleb, waiting for a sign or in this case, a post to let her know he needed it. >> garvin thomas, nbc bay area news. the curry family is celebrating tonight after steph's brother got married over
