4:31 am
with the car overturned and smashed with first responders trying to help. the accident shut down the highway here, highway 680 near pleasant hill, just north of treat boulevard, and traffic was backed up for miles. when we first arrived, we saw e so that is why just recently they just reopened the lanes and it looks like traffic is going smoothly. back here live, fortunately looks like people headed to work won't be affected by this accident. we are still waiting to learn the name of the victim. reporting live, i'm sharon katsuda, back to you. >> we'll take that sharon. sharon talked about all lanes cleared within the last four or five minutes. we're seeing speed sensors start to recover, at least they're reading now, we had two lanes open for a period of time causing the backup to about monument. this is in contra costa county coming off of pleasant hill and

concord traveling toward the walnut creek interchange. all lanes of 680 opened after the overnight deadly crash that happened three hours ago, just reopened those lanes. traffic should recoverely for the morning commute. thathe slowing out of the altamont pass. a live look you see a little sheen on the roadway. looks like there's mist, some drizzle out there, vianey? >> that's right, the cooler air mass that brought significant cooling is bringing in the cloud cover. we sort of got mother nature's natural ac, some cooling and winds and we're going to notice clouds hanging out tight throughout the afternoon. as that begins to build, the temperatures are going to remain very comfortable. currently we're in the 60s right now, 63 degrees in fremont. 60 degrees in san francisco, so it's not too cold and it's not too chilly but as we head in towards the afternoon the most noticeable change is going to be the mix of sun and clouds. so not as clear this afternoon, but look at the temperatures, we'll remain in ther 6 and eveng

bay pumpkin patch. >> as they prepare to celebrate the season, they'll have the kind of law enforcement presence they wanted. "today in the bay's" kris sanchez live for us in san martin with more. kris? >> reporter: hi there, marcus and laura. if you come out to the sugi pumpkin farm in san martin, they're ready to go. the peumpkins are piled up, the inflatables are blown up but also see uniformed police officers according to the organizer. if you live in the south bay, you've probably been to yusugi farm, a popular tradition this time of year. with the gilroy garlic festival shooting so fresh in people's memories, organizers were afraid people would not feel comfortable being in a large crowd without an official law enforcement presence instead of private security. but when the organizer asked the sheriff's department for uniformed patrols, that the pumpkin patch would pay for, the best that she got was car patrols in the area, which was unnerving for park visitors.
4:35 am
>> that would be a concern. we want to feel safe. i don't like to go out anymore because i feel unsafe. >> reporter: so one day after nbc bay area broke this story, a turn-around. the organizer tellsff agreed to let uniform officers patrol here, though that is not their general policy of justify duty type of work. contra costa county a different policy, this from the brentwood police chief, "while we may not be able to predict or stop someone from attempting to cause harm to visitors and members of our community at a public event, i am committed to providing my officers with the tools they need to better respond if that should occur." so in brentwood, when police officers go out to patrol community events like this one or others, they will head out with patrol rifles and also mobile vehicle barriers. so it could be unnerving for community members there, but at the same time other community members are looking forward to

4:37 am
and i and the entire community have received. >> reporter: the new president, holly elkins, wrote this letter to the school community saying "presentation is launching an external investigation into any past reports of sexual abuse and misconduct and the handling of such allegations," adding "it's important to get an impartial picture of what happened in the past so we can support survivors, protect and keep our students safe, and help our community heal." >> the acknowledgment that past abuse has indeed occurred was very uplifting. >> reporter: the school board hired a sacramento law firm for the investigation and it should be completed by next summer. leehane looks forward to the results. >> i sincerely hope that presentation will take the necessary steps to hold the enablers accountable for their role in this scandal. >> reporter: ian cull, "today in the bay." >> our investigative unit has been reporting on this story from the beginning. we will continue to follow new

4:48 am
now in san francisco, we've got a comfortable start, that's what sort of cooled us off overnight but we're still noticing it's a little gusty in some portions of the far northern california area. so let's look at right now the temperatures 60 degrees in san francisco, so areas along the coast could still be seeing some breezy conditions through the afternoon. oakland 61 degrees right now. fremont 63, and let's talk about this system, what's going to be happening within the next couple of hours because it's going to be interesting this weekend. so satellite radar right now, you could see we will notice a little bit more of that building cloud cover through the afternoon, again we have that system, it's a bit of a trough off to the north, that's what cooled us off. look at your hour-by-hour outlook. the green typically means rain. a lot of it might not make it to the ground but our models show the possibility of the coastline catching some drizzle, maybe light rain. primarily areas of driz cloudy skies. by the afternoon, i'll fast

week but all in all toward the next seven days we'll remain cool in san francisco, and definitely a lot more comfortable into the overnight hours. i don't think you'll need ac all week, mike. >> that's really good. i love those 70s. over here a little mist, that's how much things have changed from earlier this week when things were steaming. now it's just misting a little. there may be slick roadways. a slight build at the bay bridge but nothing of major concern. a typical pattern for friday. the deadly crash cleared south 680 through pleasant hill. sharon katsuda talked about what happened earlier this morning, again, speeds have recovered down in toward danville, headed down toward dublin at al costa, may be headed past another crash on the southbound side. a smooth drive out of the altamont pass and no major delays south bay along the peninsula, you'll find road crews starting to do the temporary traffic breaks here and there over the next hour as crews are clearing around marsh just north of willow. you see a smooth drive.
4:51 am

4:52 am
both schools seasons are done. there will be no federal civil rights charges against the sacramento police officers who shot and killed stephon clarke. u.s. attorneys office and the fbi announcing there is insufficient evidence to move forward with criminal charges. clark was shot and killed last year in his grandparents' backyard. police responded to a call of someone breaking car windows and spotted clark running away. two officers thought he was armed when they shot him. he was holding a cell phone. the credits rolled on the final film at a peninsula menlo park's guild theater closed after 90 years in business. the new owners say they'll renovate and reopen it as a live music venue. >> it's just the heritage. it's the history. it's like i remember my whole childhood going to a theater just like this, and you just don't have this experience. >> so the new owners say they still might consider showing a
