shank. the inmates stole a jail vehicle and drove to a get away car, eventually found more than four hours away in pennsylvania >> our detectives have established that the inmates had the insistence and the escaping from at least one individual on the outside. >> reporter: the decades old 22-bed jail is located in the built of the county courthouse, next to the ohio/west virginia boarder in the small down. this community is no stranger to jail breaks with three since august earlier this month, one of the men on the run now escaped with another inmate the pair was quickly recaptured. >> after taking off, i quickly realized that our jail was outdated and insufficient to meet the needs and the numbers of the criminals we do not have our ability to lock our inmates in cells like a usual jail would. >> reporter: residents here are sounding the alarm. >> everybody should get together the whole community is sick in the way they're operating. >> reporter: growing frustration as a multi-state manhunt

continues. kathy park, nbc news police in new york city are mourning the deaths of one of their own after he was shot dead in the bronx officer brian mulkeen was investigating gang activity when a chase broke out. there was a struggle while trying to arrest the suspect and jo joaquin. the officer's gun was fired. it's not clear who pufld the trigger. mulkeen spent seven years on the department and worked with the anti-crime unit. a community in morning a prayer vigil was held in honor of fallen texas deputy sandeep dal dalaiwell. they gathered to pay tribute to the hen of-year veteran who was the first member of the sikh community to join the harris county sheriff's office. here is nbc's morgan chesky. >> the moment i heard that

in today's top stories, the growing unrest in hong kong continues for the 17th week. the clashes between police and protesters turned violent as police attempted to disperse the crowds some demonstrators threw molotov cocktails and other objects in response authorities fired tear gas, blue liquid, and used water cannons on the crowd nbc's janis mackey frayer has the latest from hong kong. >> reporter: policare moving through the streets now to clear out protesters this has gone on -- over the course of several hours. they've used tear gas, water cannon, paint balls, and made several arrests.
