video online, showing a piece of the boeing 737's left engine cover appearing to detach in midair, frightening those on board. a similar incident occurred last year when the casing blew off one of the engines on a united flight from san francisco to honolulu that plane, a triple 7 also made an emergency landing with this latest frightening flight, passengers disembarked and boarded another flight saying united flight 293 from denver to orlando returned to the airport due to a mechanical issue with one of the engines. to put this in a context, this is a like an engine cowling, casing peeling back. the engine does not appear to have been in danger but clearly for the people on board, some nervous moments. back to you. >> tom, while i have you here, boeing on the news with another issue on one of its plane models what more do we know about that.

>> reporter: we have been talking for months about the 737 max, now another model, the ng, the model of planes built before the max, 700, 800 and 900, the faa is ordering inspections because cracks have been found in something called the pickle fork that may sound like a strange name but it's a critical piece of the spine and the mechanics of the aircraft that hold the wings together to the spine. so a piece of steel that's critical cracks have been found in a small number of planes that they were modifying for freight service. so now the faa wants to inspect these planes that airlines have in service to see if it is a wider problem. boeing is cooperating fully. >> tom costello, thank you. a manhunt is underway for an inmate who escaped from an ohio jail early sunday morning, four inmates were able to overpower

injured. the shrieks speak for themselves this washington state school bus driver ranting to roosevelt elementary students at one point talking to herself on an empty bus. >> you know why i'm doing this, because my marriage sucks. >> reporter: a 10-year-old boy calling 911 after he got home. >> she's like wobbling and then her eyes, you can tell, she was drunk. >> reporter: did she smell of alcohol? >> yeah, her breath sort of smells like alcohol. >> reporter: according to a police report, 48-year-old catherine maccarone took a preliminary breath test registering a blood alcohol level double the legal limit for bus drivers. she denied drinking that day and called the test a lie but did tell deputies about taking anxiety and sleep medication she was charged with a dui and reckless endangerment. she has since resigned from her job. >> i am crazy. i'm totally crazy. >> as many as 90 children rode

with maccarone that afternoon, including kindergartens. one student writing, she passed three red lights, drove on a sidewalk, started cursing, she broke the bus rules. >> this should not have happened. >> reporter: the longview school district now promising to screen drivers before they get behind the wheel. they'll also require face-to-face interaction between drivers and a manager every day. >> boys and girls, we do have basic rules. >> reporter: police say maccarone could face more charges after a ride that could have cost kids their lives >> my goodness sam, what kind of sentence could she be looking at here >> yeah, craig, that's a good question, the reckless endangerment charge alone is considered a gross misdemeanor in washington state. that carries up to a year in jail and a $5,000 fine but there's also that dui accompanying it as well, and more charges against the driver potentially could be forthcoming.

may be happening our investigation took us to downtown los angeles where in a 12-block radius, we sought dozens and dozens of storefronts advertising vaping products. we're in pursuit of what black market operators come here for the empty packaging and cartridges that they fill with cheap and often tainted substances sold as legitimate thc products. within minutes, we score we were able to go in one shop, one stop shopping, buy these dank vape containers, the packaging, and a hundred of the cartridges into which you can put whatever you want. there's no i.d., no tax, no

floods in the east, to the midwest where entire towns have struggled and surrendered to rising waters. >> we just can't do it any more with three small kids. just not willing to risk having to go through this again >> reporter: from the melting polar ice pack to horrific cat 5 hurricanes that decimate everything in their path >> we need help. >> reporter: scientists say nearly every corner of the globe is witnessing the effects of climate change including the colorado high country at the top of keystone ski resort >> in many ways this is the fro fro frontlines >> and why we're doing everything we can to do our part >> reporter: colorado winters have become far less predictable. last year record snowfall came only after years of drought. in denver, this month record heat the city has now gone 18 years without a septber snfall

that is the longest on record. colorado needs its mountain snow back to provide drinking and irrigation water to the communities below. how big of a priority is this for the state now? >> i think that it is a huge priority for the state because it has such impact in so many domains. >> reporter: at my alma mater, university of colorado climate professor -- is this the new normal >> our environment has changed around us and it is not so much that it is the new normal, but the old normal doesn't exist anymore. >> reporter: this summer, the great lakes hit near record levels, threatening homes and businesses and straining utilities. in south dakota, flooding left nearly 4 million acres unplanted this year. and while in slake tahoe, they expect air temperatures to rise by 9 degrees potentially shifting from a snow based to a rain based climate >> we can expect more fires, more floods, more drought.

and more severity to each of those. and the reason in its simplist form is we're putting more energy into the system >> reporter: back here in ski country, vail is investing big at all its resorts, already hundreds of snow guns cover keystone mountain. and now a big upgrade, new low energy high capacity guns to overcome mother nature's volatility and turn this brown slope into a skier's delight can this make up for warmer seasons? >> if we have a season where the snow just isn't what we want to be or we want to start making snow earlier than mother nature is giving to us, yes, that is exactly what these are meant to do >> reporter: and keystone plans to start blowing snow later this month. so when will i be able to ski right here >> we are hoping to be open by the end of october this year three weeks earlier than we typically open >> reporter: a $5 billion industry in colorado giving
