"the new york times" is now reporting that a second intelligence official may file their own formal whistleblower complaint regarding president trump's dealings with ukraine. meantime the heads of the house intelligence, foreign affairs and oversight committees, all democrats, issued a subpoena to the white house on friday demanding the release of a wide range of documents related to ukraine. nbc news learned the cia's top lawyer made a criminal referral

5:07 am
witness be, especially if this person has more direct information about what happened as the "times" reports. >> it would be critical. if you read the whistleblower's complaint, first whistleblower, tropical storm multiple officials that raised red flags to him about misconduct inside the administration. they attacked him as not having firsthand knowledge. there are a number of witnesses who could come forward. if there's a second whistleblower that comes forward, i think that raises the question if there are more witnesses. presumably both would talk to the intelligence committee and provide names of individuals who could provide further evidence of misconduct by the president or others around him. >> on that note we just talked about the fact the president publicly called on china to investigate biden's dealings and he did that in front of all these reporters on the south lawn. i guess the question is on its face at the end of the day, it's asking a foreign government for assistance in an election. it's illegal.
5:08 am
>> it is. it is a crime under u.s. law. by most accounts constitutional scholars an impeachable offense. i think the president's brazen call in public for not just one country but a second country to interfere in the election similar to 2016 statement, russia if you're listening moment. we're not just looking at his past conduct, president zelensky in this month long effort to get them to investigate joe biden but raises the question if he's google to keep inviting foreign intervention in an election. as long as he's president whether we can have a free and open election if there are other countries invited to investigate his opponent. related to ukraine, according to messages, top diplomats appeared to view it very differently. how damaging are those text messages. >> i think they are incredibly

damaging. kurt volker, the president's envoy to ukraine made it clear there's a direct quid pro quo, if you want pa meeting, something they wanted for a variety of reasons, you need to announce these investigations publicly. another official seemed to think there was a quid pro quo for the ukrainians to get aid only if they announce investigations. you have direct evidence of the thing the president denied. that's problematic. the republicans say the bar is not inviting a government to interfere but if there's a quid broke quo. we saw evidence of quid pro quo in these messages. >> can't say we don't live in interesting times. thank you very much. the man who hopes to be the next president of the united states is out of the hospital. bernie sanders on the mend after he suffered a heart attack on the trail. nbc's sam brock is here with more on what's next for the senator. sam, good morning. >> reporter: sheinelle, good morning. it is possible for the next

there may be a second whistleblower ready to file a complaint about president cotry.s dealings with that "the new york times" reports this morning that an direct knowledge of the events has been interviewed by the intelligence community inspector general. this new source reportedly corroborated the whistleblower that the president appeared to be pressuring ukraine to investigate joe biden. the other big story we've been covering here, senator bernie sanders out of the hospital this morning. his campaign admitted friday he suffered a heart attack. the big question for many voters, how will it affect his run nor president. we're joined by dr. oz, cardio authorize -- thoracic surgeon and host of the dr. oz show. we know he had a heart attack, was hospitalized, got a pair of stints put inside him.
5:32 am

5:33 am
insight, there's a 90% chance he won't have another problem with the stints over the course of next year. >> before we get to warning signs, there are a lot of us watching. we don't know. we see a big debate coming up october 15th. is that too soon, pushing it to get back on the campaign trail. when they are out on the trail they don't sleep, i think about the prep it takes. it seems like a lot. >> when i was pushing on his health, hedmitted he didn't sleep very much and rushed quite a bit. those are factors. you do need sleep to regenerate cells injured. a heart attack is like a punch. you can recover, a charley horse to your heart hurts and it c cause damage and that damage can be quite significant. you want the heart to recovery quickly. eating the right foods have been shown to prevent more heart attacks and strokes. remember, as you pointed, four of the leading candidates for president are in their '70s. most of them have hardening of the arteries, atherosclerosis.
5:34 am
no matter how rushed you are, you have to stay on your bills, blood thinners, cholesterol issues, got to stay on meds. >> this is a guy trailed by cameras wherever he goes. there was a camera with him when uncharacteristically a guy who is active said, hey, can i have a chair. he took his jacket off, asked for a chair on the stage. you are saying this is significant, why should we watch. >> people want the signs of a heart attack you're watching right there. a little sweaty, lightheadedness, shortness of breath is a sign. >> how long does that process -- if you're having a heart attack, how long does that take? >> i have a video. this is probably what happened to senator sanders. hardening of the arteries, you see blaplaque on the edges. see that. it's about to be deployed. if that plaque remains, a blood clot can occur in minutes.
5:35 am
what you have for meals over the weekend can alter the fact of having a heart attack. it doesn't take years. the plaque can take years but the clots are sudden. within five minutes you start to have damage of heart cells. senator sanders was starting to have classic signs you might be having a heart attack. thankfully he went to an urgent center and to a hospital and they opened the vessel. that is the big takeaway. if you have the issue do not pass go, do not collect $200, get in there. once that life sustaining blood goes back through the blood vessel you're back to the baseline at least for having a heart attack. >> thank you for coming in. hopefully we saved a life today. >> bernie sanders is okay. thank you for your insight. be sure to watch the dr. oz show. >> dylan back with the weather.
