6:09 am
a spectator. we're starting out with temperatures the warmest in san francisco, 66 degrees, as you head out the door. but we are seeing mostly some low to mid-50s for many areas as we get ready to head out and get this monday started. if you're about to walk the kids to school within the next couple of hours, we'll go from 55 degrees at 7:00 to 78 degrees at 11:00, lunch time will still be a little bit more comfortable but it will heat up as we go through the rest of the day into the mid 80s by the last school bell. we'll reach up to 89 today. 87 in napa and palo alto will reach 86 degrees today. we'll talk more about a cooler forecast ahead. mike, you're starting back in oakland. >> that's right. looking here kari at 880 the nimitz, moves smoothly, well spaced for that part of oakland. the east bay looks predictable. we call out this one section 580, still slow. i think they're conducting this traffic break and moving that disabled vehicle over to the right shoulder, that's west 580,
6:10 am
your commute heading up through the area, past 98th and golf links, the zoo exits there and just shy of the warren freeway highway 13. hayward southbound the nimitz and 680 through pleasanton south also where the go weather is. not a surprise off of 580. south bay and peninsula all clear and we talked about the drive on 580, 24 minutes and building from grant line road to the dublin interchange, but without any problems. back to you. >> let's hop it stays smooth. thanks. >> 6:10 right now. still ahead the last laugh for the joker, the box office success and that surprise visit from the movie star. some uncertainty on the stock market this morning, but definitely a new way to toot your horn with a tesla. i'll tell you about it when "today in the bay" continues.
6:11 am
6:12 am
6:13 am
right now at 6:13, as we get a live look in san jose, we're starting out with some upper 50s and then we'll go from 60 at 7:00 to 73 at 10:00. the warmup today happens pretty quickly but this will be the last day of having to deal with summer-like temperatures for a little while. i'll talk about this and what's ahead in the forecast, coming up in less than five minutes. >> and we're still looking at this slow drive for 580, coming through oakland, looks like this traffic break may not be happening just yet. that might be because of that crash that happened on the other side of the bay.
6:14 am
the peninsula great for the bay shore freeway. we'll show you everything in between. >> and a very happy monday to you. some of us getting back to work after a longer break than others. stocks will likely suffer today after word from the chinese they're not going to fesnegotia on certain things, off the table in trade talks. general motors strike continues. uber has not done well. it says the ipo has turned to be an embarrassment for japanese investor machiosi-san. we've talked about him before. he's blanketing silicon valley with billions but his investments aren't playing out. he tells the japanese newspaper "nikkei" he's embarrassed by his silicon valley returns. shares of hewlett-packard saw its stock fall almost 10% friday, after it announced massive layoffs. thousands possible thousands of our neighbors.

generally the job market is doing well. we got the big jobs number friday showing the lowest unemployment rate in 50 years. not a lot of job growth, and curiously, we didn't see any growth in wages. you'd expect it gets harder and harder to find workers, companies would pay more, we're not seeing that in the numbers. this has been a long-term problem. from an economics point of view, americans don't make as much money as they should. tesla's elon musk says the cars he makes will get new sounds for the horn, like a goat's bleat and new sounds for slow speed, noises the car can make as it moves slowly in a parking lot so electric cars don't sneak up on you. one of the sounds is the clip clop of coconuts together. a reference to monty python and the holy grail and we're interpreting flat lens, toot

6:18 am
>> i wonder if somebody will put her in a studio and she'll record something. >> probably. isn't that how it goes? >> like "america's got talent." i know someone else who has talent, meteorologist kari hall the talented forecast. what is happening for us today, not so great. >> not so great. it's still going to be really warm and we're feeling summer-like weather across the bay area, but that is about to change but there will be some other issues that come up from that, so let's get a live look outside and get started on this monday. looking at palo alto as you get ready to head out the door. the south bay forecast is coming up at the bottom of the screen as we look at how our morning shapes up in palo alto. we'll be at 57 degrees at 7:00 and going from 57 to 77 at 11:00, and it continues to go up from there, eventually hitting the mid to upper 80s. our south bay high today reaches 88 in san jose, and los gatos. up to 92 in morgan hill, and for the east bay, a lot of upper 80s and low 90s here, so it's going
6:19 am
to be very warm. our winds coming in from the southwest at about 10 to 15 miles per hour, and also very warm for the coastal areas, so half moon bay reaches 81 degrees and 87 in palo alto. we can see it up to 86 in the mission district today, and then for the north bay, we're up to 87 in novato, reaching 90 today in ukiah and santa rosa. we have big changes ahead for the rest of the week, so today the temperatures are going to peak and then a cold front blasts through tomorrow. this will bring in some cooler air, but will also shift our wind direction, as it moves farther toward the east. as we go into wednesday and thursday, our winds will be peaking and blowing offshore with some very dry conditions. so even though the temperatures will be cooler, we could still have a very high fire danger, especially over those hills. we'll see the winds calm down on friday, but then by saturday, sunday, another storm system moves in, and it makes it also
6:20 am
windy once again. so we are going to be watching out for this, a fire weather watch in effect for the inland hills. it doesn't yet include the santa cruz mountains but we'll be watching out for that potential and that will be between wednesday and thuday when those winds will be peaking and then our temperatures coming down into the mid-70s. for the inland areas it will cool off and keep the milder temperatures for the weekend. san francisco very warm today, but we'll bring it down to 70 by tomorrow mike, you're picking out two slow spots for the east bay. >> that's right. doesn't mean it's only slowing in two spots but these are the two focusing because of the change over the last few minutes. we see the tri-valley shows 680 and hayward shows the east bay also slowing, typical patterns there. we'll call out this one through oakland, west 580 still slow. we don't have word that the tow truck is even there and the traffic break may not have occurred yet. a slower drive a mile approaching 98th and golf links, that would be your commute
6:21 am
westbound 580. up toward the bay bridge you'll want to use the nimitz freeway. if you can choose between the two this morning. the second spot for the east bay, at almost 40 minutes, over 35 minutes from marsh creek road to vasco at 580, the slowing typically occurs as you narrow down to one lane and it builds up on the approach. a standard build there but it's there, your break is over for the weekend in the morning. slow for highway 4 through pittsburg and bay point and the upper east shore freeway, slow with speeds a bit headed toward the bay bridge toll plaza, so here are travel times again that incident west 580 at golf links slows you down so the nimitz is much better. a look at the bay bridge toll plaza shows you we have movement, a lot of vehicles are there but it's not packed solid. it's just packed. back to you. >> sure is, thanks a lot. next and all new, a ride share horror, at tack an uber driver in california had to fight off and how he's doing this morning. later, "nbc bay area responds."
