good saturday morning, we've made it to the weekend, it is 7:00 on the dot, look at this gorgeous view, from the marina in san francisco, the city is waking up to get ready to watch the blue angels. thanks for joining us. i'm kira klapper. vianey arana has a look at the microclimate forecast and it is going to be a good one to get out and look at the skies tooed. >> look how beautiful it is. it is going to be a perfect day

to really go out and enjoy. overall. all in all. right now, in san francisco, the current temperatures are 57 degrees, so it is not too cold in fran, but running a little chilly in some spots, 51 in san jose. let's look at how of the rest of the bay area. petaluma, it is a little cooler. that number is 37 degrees. so we definitely have, there's a couple of chilly overnight lows, mainly up through the north bay, though, but look at the south bay down below, we will be seeing a little bit of a slight warmup. 18 degrees cooler at this hour, over nine degrees cooler and let's take a look at the microclimate highs and temperatures, five degrees, warmer than what we saw yesterday and in some spots, but looking at what is on the way. a rollercoaster. i will take you through that in a few minutes. >> the only thing i can always expect with the weather is it is going to be a rollercoaster.

>> yes. >> see you in 15, thanks. now to dramatic and frightening images out of southern california this morning. the saddle ridge fire is destroying homes and forcing more than 100,000 people to evacuate. dozens of bay area firefighters have gone to los angeles to help fight the fire. those crews are joining more than 1,000 firefighters to protect homes, get people out, and stop the flames from spreading. the saddle ridge fire was in late thursday, it started late thursday, spreading into the porter ranch area about eight miles away. the flames stand by whipping winds and low humidity. last night, police escorted some evacuees one at a time and allowed them back into their homes for five to ten minutes, so they could grab what they could. some returned only their homes gone. >> we have a bond here.

>> berkeley firefighters struck a strike team from fremont, heyward counties and joined the santa clara county firefighters. the saddle ridge fire is 13% contained. 31 structures have been destroyed. back here locally, it has been a long week, as thousands of people living without power during the unprecedented power shutoff. and getting back to normal will be a process. grocery stores, including this safeway in lafayette, have refrigerate trucks lining up to unload products on to their empty shelves inside. employees are hustling to stock meat and produce, after this store went without power for 24 hours. families living nearby are trying to get back to normal as well, after they were in the dark, for an entire day. >> necessary? i don't know. but i didn't think it was going to happen. >> i think that it is probably covered too large an area, and i was very much upset about it, but then i heard about the fire

in maraga and i thought, well, no, i guess it is the risk. >> and power is restored to about 98% of affected customers. inspections are still under way, but pg&e said it found 30 instances of weather-related damage to power lines. the company's ceo bill johnson says he believes there would have been a fire had the power not been shut off. >> i think the question then would be, what would the scope of it be? particularly given the dry conditions? i mean you can see the branch with dry leaves on, it it hits that line, there's an arc, the arc causes a spark, and you have a branch on fire, that drops to the ground. >> pg&e expects it will find more damage. safety patrols and inspectors already are out at work this morning. we of course have been following this story all week. and we will continue to bring you the latest information both on air and online. you can down lone our app. you can go to our web site or

follow us on twitter and instagram for the ver latest. now, to another fire, but this one you may remember happened back in june. late yesterday, the case was officially closed on this massive construction fire in the south bay. this is near el camino real and scott boulevard in santa clara. firefighters now say the cause remains undetermined. and no conclusive information could be found. foul play is not suspected. now, to tense moments yesterday morning, at a hospital on the peninsula, police say this man, thomas smith, walked into kaiser emergency room, in redwood city, and threatened to kill an employee. smith was armed with a knife and a fake handgun. it took officers a few minutes to get to the hospital and arrest him. smith was treated for a self-inflicted wound. no one else was hurt. a tech ceo vanish and her family is pleading for help

finding her. the family of erin valenci passed out flyers in the san jose neighborhood where her cell phone last pinged, she is the ceo of speaker ventures, a utah tech company and in the bay area for conferences when she last seen in palo alto on monday and never seen on the flight back home. her husband says on the last phone call she sounded confused and was not acting like herself. >> my last communication was on the phone monday night after the last person saw her and it was on the phone, trying to find out where she was. she was still saying i'm going to the airport but was also bouncing off the topic. >> the representle car she drove is missing as well. it is a late model nissan mirano and san jose police say they are treating this as a voluntary missing persons case. another federal judge has ruled against president trump's plan to use billions of dollars

in federal funds to build the border wall. in january, you may remember, the president asked for $5.7 billion to build the wall. and congress approved just 1.3 billion. in february, he declared a national emergency, and said money for the pentagon construction project would be diverted and instead used for the wall. another departure from the white house, the acting secretary of the department of homeland security is stepping down. kevin mcaleenan took over after kirstjen nielsen in april. a former d.o.j. official close to mcaleenan says he resigned on his own and was not forced out. president trump says he will announce a new acting secretary next week. we are learning more about a bay area man with ties to rudy giuliani's associates, arrested at an airport, with one way tickets. new video has surfaced of the president's attorney with igor

fruman and lev parnas, the two men are witnesses in the im ip impeachment inquiry and now charged with violating campaign law. we now know that andre, also arrested, and originally, from ukraine, he heads a san francisco cannabis company. he's also charged with violating campaign laws. it is 7:08 right now. coming up, on today in the bay, home security technology is helping police zero in on two burglars in the south bay. look at that video. how neighbors are helping with these clues. >> plus, naval ships and the blue angels, that can only mean it is fleet week. we will tell you what we need to know to get around the city this weekend.

70s and 80s as we head into a gorgeous weekend to get out and watch the blue angels. all right. look at this. your home security camera could be very helpful to detectives. this home burglary in san jose, and detectives are getting clues from a network of neighborhood cameras. today in the bay has more details on the crime and the clues. >> these burglars first tried kicking down a door, didn't go very well. but the second kick did the job. the homeowner shared her security camera video but didn't want to speak on camera because she is still frightened by the break-in. she only let us videotape her flowers while talking with me. >> i was very shocked when i saw the video. but one thing i was glad is my kids were not home, no one were home at that time. >> her doorbell camera captured clear video of these two men running at the door with a white sedan waiting at the curb but several homes on this block that also have security cameras aimed

at the street. >> i'm pretty sure that my house was targeted by them. for a while. because as soon as my roommate left, three minutes later, they broke in. >> video from a different camera shows the same white four-door sedan driving up and down the street last wednesday morning. you can see her roommate put something in the trunk of her car. then, the roommate pulls out of the driveway and takes off. three minutes later, the men pull up, break in, rifle through the family's house, and then they open the garage door, and drive the white sedan in, to load it up with the loot. and five minutes later, the white sedan drives off. san jose detectives are hoping anyone who recognizes that car, or the voices of the two masked men, will give them a call. nbc bay area news. >> wow. we have much more ahead on today in the bay, coming up, a spectacular show in the air this

from santa cruz to san francisco. a section of the bay bridge was brought down. and the upper deck of the cypress freeway in oakland collapsed. since then building codes have changed, structures retrofitted and an early warning system is now in effect throughout the state. >> after loma pchlrieta and the aftershocks there was an early warning system that had been instituted on the structures that were damaged and that was part of the really, the beginnings of the earthquake early warning system in a way. >> the bay area revelations, loma prieta earthquake, 30 years later, airs tomorrow night at 10:00 p.m. and the skies will be buzzing this weekend. pleat week is in full swing. one of the bay area's most popular events. and that means massive crowds in the city. today in the bay has more on the celebration. >> let me tell you what it is

stories as they travel all over the world. >> nbc bay area news. >> perfect time now to check in with vianey arana with a look at our weekend forecast. the weather is always an important factor when it comes to fleet week. we want the nice clear skies. >> definitely. >> that's what we're seeing right now. now, we will get a little bit of cloud cover into the afternoon so let's look at the forecast. expect a high of about 74 in san francisco, and keep in mind, the air shows are from noon to 4:00 p.m. and so we'll stay in the clear through the morning hours. and into the evening, we will start to see an increase in those high clouds. by tomorrow, early in the morning, we will get a little bit more cloud cover, as you know, this morning, sort of beautiful out there. 69 degrees. so we then begin to see a bit of a cooldown. so we warmed up today, and then by tomorrow, we will cool down again, it is one of the weekends where it kind of takes you all over the place. beautiful day in san francisco. 56 degrees. we've been monitoring the winds all week long. and we're not worried about the winds for today, expected to remain calm but we could see the winds begin to kick up again

tomorrow, and that's because we get a nearby system that could definitely see some breezy temperatures. 51 in san jose. wind speeds nice and light through the afternoon and the current temperature, some spots are running about nine degrees cooler, below normal. for this time of the year. and look at half moon bay. right now, it dropped down to 39 degrees. and it is feeling cold, that's because it is. up through santa rosa, and 39 degrees, and a little bit more comfortable, 54 degrees in san francisco, and san jose, right now, at about 51 degrees. and in through the afternoon, though, don't worry, we will be warming up again, a few degrees warmer in some spots and a bit of a warmup there. san jose, 83. and east san jose, 85 degrees. and for the east bay, we're talking upper 70s, for oakland, 77, and then we've got a couple of mid to upper 80s into concord and a high of 86. and meanwhile, along the peninsula, expect a high of about 78 degrees, and then heading into san francisco, it is going to be a very comfortable day. lovely afternoon. 76 degrees. and probably the peak high for

the afternoon and in through the north bay, talking about 83 degrees. for ukiah, and 82 in novato and mill valley, at 77. so we what do we have coming up ahead for the next couple of day, a couple of changes and again, a little breezy because of a passing system, and that's going to cool us down into tomorrow. and then, as we head in towards monday, and tuesday, we have a bit of a system that's off to the north and you can see on the radar, that will keep our temperatures mild, but it is going to keep most of the rain chances up to the north, with better chances for seeing the likelihood of a little bit of drizzle, maybe along the coastline, in towards the middle of the workweek itself. and here it is, you can see by wednesday and thursday, a little bit of rain, up through the north bay, and then through the coastline. over the next seven days, we're going to be warm today, in the 80s, and then we cool down tomorrow and then we stay fairly mild and comfortable, we notice an increase in the cloud cover, and then again, by next thursday, mainly up to the north bay, we could get a chance of seeing a couple of showers, tup through the area, and 69 degrees

welcome back, over the past few years, we heard countless stories of loss, of survival, and rebirth, in the wake of the north bay wildfires. these stories though have captured hearts, few stories have captured hearts quite like the one about a 90-year-old cowboy and a cow who means everything to him. today in the bay garvin thomas brings us a heart warming update in this morning's bay area proud. >> glenn evans lost his wife valerie, the night the fire destroyed their ranch. he poured all of that emotion into caring for the favorite

animal, a long horned cow named angel. with the community's help last october glenn welcomed angel home, and now the community is stepping up once again. on that day, one year ago, when angel finally returned to her favorite pasture, you couldn't wipe the smile off glenn evans' face. >> oh, that's great. that is just dynamite. >> reporter: for this old cowboy, it was a happy day. just not a happy ending. at least that's what he was thinking. >> she's hungry. look at her. she is out there already. >> glenn's son was thrilled too, his late mom's favorite animal was home, but not satisfied until his dad was home, too. >> my father is 90 and he is missing his mate in life. and that's hard. he doesn't need to be somewhere else. he needs to be at home.

>> but while houses have been springing up all over nearby coffee park, not a shovel full of dirt has moved at the evans ranch. too much bureaucracy and not enough money, he says. >> we've got everything in order and then we got to looking at the numbers, and you know, first fear set in because of the prices. >> but he wasn't going to let that stop him. so he went with the cowboy hat in hand to the ghilotti construction company. >> my family wants to rebuild, but we are going to need help doing it. >> and ghilotti said yes. >> willie ghilotti is their engineers contractor. >> it is the right thing to do to be a part of the community to give back, especially if we're able to. >> and so two years, to the day of the fire, ghilotti is

good saturday morning, it is 7:29, and we are taking a live look outside, in san francisco, all set up along the marina green to watch the air show today, and what a gorgeous sunrise, as the city wakes up to the weekend. thanks so much for joining us, i'm kira klapper. vianey arana has a look at the microclimate forecast. >> look how pretty that shot was. with the birds flying overhead. it's clear but it is a little chilly in some spots. all in all, we are going to see the sunshine really dominating in today's forecast. look at that beautiful view. downtown san jose. 51 degrees. the wind speed, not a factor

today. it is going to be very calm. and look at the temperatures, through santa rosa, 39 degrees, right now, half moon bay, 39 degrees, so we are definitely in a bit of a chilly start, with a few degrees below seasonable and in through concord, 47 degrees, and santa cruz, 47. and a look at the temperature trend through the afternoon. don't worry, we're actually going to be warm this afternoon. and a little bit of a warmup expected into the 80s for the interior valleys. and we're talking possible upper 80s, but then things get interesting because we will warm up today and then we cool off tomorrow, and then we see the breezy winds picking up again, and that's all because we've got a system passing nearby, and that's going to change our pattern, as we head in towards monday as well. and the chance of possibly even seeing some rain in our seven-day outlook. i will have a look at that coming up in a few minutes. >> thank you. >> we will see you in 15. thanks. dramatic and frightening images now out of southern california this morning, the saddle ridge fire is destroying homes, and forcing more than 100,000 people to evacuate.

now, dozens of bay area firefighters are in l.a. to help fight that fire. those crews are joining more than 1,000 l.a. area firefighters to protect homes, evacuate people and stop the flames from spreading. the saddle ridge fire ignited late thursday, in silmar in northern l.a. county and quickly spread into the porter ranch area about eight miles away. flames are being fanned by whipping winds and low humidity. just last night, police escorted some evacuees one at a time, allowing them back into their homes for five to ten minutes, to grab only what they could, and some returned to find their homes gone. >> there's a bond here, you know. >> berkeley fire sent a strike team with firefighters from almeda and hey ward and fremont counties and joined 22 firefighters from santa clara county now on the front lines. we have late word that the saddle ridge fire is now 19% contained. more than 5700 acres have burn,

convicted in the college admissions scandal. he was sentenced yesterday, and has become the very first to avoid jail time. peter sartorio from menlo park admitted to paying $15,000 to rig his daughter's s.a.t. exam in 2017. friday, the judge sentenced him to a year probation, 250 hours of community service, and a $9,000 fine. he is one of 25 parents who had pleaded guilty, including tv star felicity huffman, another 19 parents are still fighting charges. sartorio owns alana's food specialties a frozen food company out of san francisco. the impeachment inquiry into president trump is accelerating with a new witness talking to congressional investigators. house committee leaders were armed with subpoenas, when they heard the state department would not let the former u.s. ambassador to ukraine testify yesterday. but she did talk, in a closed door hearing, mario van vich

welcome back. not many people thought the washington nationals would still be alive in the playoffs, but they could be the cinderella team of baseball. they got the dodgers and now facing the cardinals for a right to go to the world series. game one of the nlcs, nationals at cardinals. the starting pitcher sanchez, with a performance of a lifetime. santos had a no hitter into the eighth inning. before having it snapped with two outs. and washington would only score

two runs in the game. but it was more than enough. and the nationals beat the cardinals 2-0. game two of the series is today, in st. louis. do you remember where you were 30 years ago this week? this month, we're remembering loma prieta, our award-winning documentary series takes a look back at the 6.9 earthquake, just minutes before the quake, we were all watching the bay bridge world series at candlestick. >> and it was a special day. and luckily, in many ways, that 5:04 time that the earthquake hit, we are lucky. a lot of people left their work a little bit early, that particular day, to get home. to watch it on television. if they didn't have a ticket to go to the game. >> well, you see there, sportscaster al michaels was on the air, for game three of the world series, when the quake hit at 5:04 p.m. >> the first thing i thought was that there was some kids in the

spots, as we get warm through the afternoon, it will be pleasant. right now in san jose 51 degrees. wind speed not really a factor a at this hour but breezy conditions, and that is all due to a system. right now, we have some 30s up to the north bay. these are some of the colder spots and look at santa rosa, 39 degrees, that is running about eight degrees below normal as we wake up this morning. 51 degrees right now in san jose. and a couple of chilly 40s down through the santa cruz area as well. so expect to see a warmup into the afternoon. and i know a lot of you are going to be heading to san francisco, to see the beautiful plains fly ahead, and we do have some evening clouds, but keep in mind, that the air show goes from noon to 4:00, so right around the 3:00 hour, you might starts to see a couple of high clouds rolling through. however, look at the temperature. 74 degrees. we are a couple of degrees warmer. but by tomorrow, we've g a system nearby, guess what is going to happen. it is actually going to cool us off and start off with a little bit of a cloudier day through

sunday and also breezy conditions through the hills but this shouldn't really affect fleet week which is great news for us. and go out there and take awesome photos and share with us on social media. the microclimate highs throughout the entire bay area, slightly wmer in morgan hill. 86 degrees. los gatos, 84. in through the tri-valley, 86 degrees for concord. danville, 85. fremont, 82. and in through oakland, 77 degrees. along the peninsula, you can expect to see some upper 70s. up through san mateo, 78 degrees. redwood city, 81. we've got that comfortable weather that's really dominating in the forecast, and the good news is for us, that the winds tend to diminish, especially after the rough week that we had with the weather and the high fire danger, even though it is not windy, the dry conditions out there with better recovery overnight in terms of the humidity and something to keep an eye out for. 82 in novato. point reyes, with the coastline nice and cool and sunny. and breezy and mild this weekend.

epidemic is getting even worse. now that flu season is here, doctors are being extra vigilant because flu symptoms can be similar to vaping lung injury symptoms. according to the centers for disease control and prevention, 26 people have died from vaping-related illnesses. and they're now are almost 1300 cases. the cdc urges doctors to look for patients who have coughs and shortness of breath. google is calling it downtown west. the tech giant is revealing the most detailed plan yet for the planned village in san jose. the new rendering of the 80-acre plan, next to the train station, and it includes spots for thousands of new homes, along with a lot of office space, and parks, hotel rooms, and parking. the city started evaluating the plan yesterday, and has set up a web site for public comment. may the mayor says the plan addresses the community concerns

welcome back. time for the clear the shelters segment featuring our pets in need, and talking during the commercial break with my girls, martha and jacqueline, here with some more girls, bertha and blanch. they are so cute. they are a little bit older. a pair of bonded dogs, rescued from the central valley. so they're eight years old.
