this under control soon? >> reporter: yeah, frances, unfortunately, they are not even expected to put a containment line around this fire until november the 7th as you mentioned, yes, it is an evacuation of historic proportions. 200,000 people chased out of their homes because of fire and many sleeping in emergency shelters like the one behind me. in northern california, fire is racing across the landscape. >> i can report to you that this is still a very active fire. >> reporter: the kincade fire, north of san francisco, is feasting on hurricane-force winds. more than 3,000 firefighters are working to put lines around the inferno that's already scorched tens of thousands of acres. >> currently, the fire edge is somewhere just south of the community of windsor, near shiloh, where our resources are engaged in perimeter control and attempts at structure defense. >> reporter: nearly 2.5 million are without power. the governor declared a statewide emergency. >> we've been battling fires all

up and down the state now for close to a week. >> reporter: mandatory evacuations have forced thousands of californians to get out of harm's way. >> i care about my life, his life, and the person's life who lives around us. >> reporter: some people who have been ordered to leave don't have a destination >> we knew we needed to evacu e evacuate we had no idea where to go. >> reporter: the kincade fire is one of several burning across the west, and forecasters warn, conditions remain ripe for more. but we are expecting about 24 hours of calm. then it kicks back up again. the hope is that they can get the upper hand and start to make some progress on that fire and hang on to it when the wind kicks back at them back to you two. >> hopefully they can get a break this time around jennifer jennifer, thank you. let's get the latest update from meteorologist janessa webb. >> we're getting breaking news

relationship with a capitol hill staffer. it comes after the house ethics committee opened an investigation into whether hill had an inappropriate sexual relationship with an aide. new house rules ban relationships between members and their staff. hillnied the allegation but then admitted to having a consensual relationship with an aide she blamed the scandal abusive husband and dirty politics her husband did not response for comment. we're mourning the death of john conyers the democrat from michigan was the longest serving african-american congressman in history. he served more than 50 years before stepping down in 2017 amid multiple allegations of sexual harassment. charges he denied. conyers was a native of detroit and fought to make martin luther king jr.'s birthday a national holiday. he died at his home of natural causes john conyers was 90 years old.
