"today in the bay" continues right now. good morning to you on this friday. thanks so much for starting your morning here with us. i'm marcus washington. >> and i'm laura garcia. everyone survived halloween? >> yep. still here. >> kids might be a little tired this morning. >> kids? >> bundle them up. >> i guess the parents. >> yes, especially on our schedule. we're going to start out with cold temperatures, yes they need to bundle up, my son's day at school is pajama day so a nice one for that. temperatures in the low 30s in the north bay. very cold start to the morning, livermore 38, and 36 in san martin. a closer look at the north bay, we have the freeze warnings in effect, you can see why. we are very close and we've seen a few of those areas heading

down below freezing. as we head out in san jose we're going to see temperatures in campbell in the mid-40s. normally we're in the low 70s but we'll be above that today. i'll have a look at the rest of the forecast coming up, mike, it's still a little light at the bay bridge. >> we're using the homophone light, because the lighter traffic with the cash lanes not full and light because there's lots of headlights and the metering lights. that is going on at the bay bridge but it's friday, why we're seeing the later build, also the day after halloween we tend to see folks tougher to get out of bed. we have one incident in the area, it is eastbound heading up toward pinole before highway 4, we have a crash, looks like everything is cleared from the lanes quickly. i'll double check that once chp confirms that. very mild slowing, you can barely see it here, bay point toward concord around willow pass road, where we start to see a little slowing. a crash on tesla, mines road one of the surface streets. 580 moves smoothly through the tri-valley. we want to get to breaking

looked like they may have come from the party, as well as a strong police presence, with sheriffs department, police, highway patrol and actually security and police guarding the entrance to the emergency room, which is on the other side of the hospital. that has died down a little bit in the past hour or so, only one police car outside there, not as many people milling around outside of the entrance to the emergency room out of respect. we have also stayed away from that side of the hospital. at last report we got from orinda police department from the chief himself was that at least four people were injured, and brought here to john muir medical center in walnut creek. we've heard reports of as many as seven people being injured, oftentimes in incidents like this, people will self-transport themselves to the hospital, if they're not facing life-threatening injuries. we understood that one person may have been injured when they jumped from a window at that

house. that also has not been confirmed. like bob, we've reached out to the police department also to the contra costa county sheriff's department, but at this point, we have not heard back from the sheriff's department to try to get more detail on the numbers and exactly what the condition is of some of these people who were injured. we understand as many as three people may be in critical condition here at john muir but again we're trying to confirm that. we're live in walnut creek, thom jens jensen, "today in the bay." >> certainly a tragic situation there, thom, thank you. our newsroom always active even when we are not on air. we pushed news of the shooting overnight to anyone that has our smartphone app. you can download is for free so you never miss important headlines. later this morning, we expect to get a new update on the kincade wildfire where for the past few days firefighters have held that line of containment. as of last night, it was 65% contained. the number of acres burned hasn't moved much. it's still at 77,000 acres, but

he did nothing wrong, and is blasting the entire process, but he's also waking up this morning as the fourth president to ever face impeachment proceedings. "today in the bay's" tracie potts reports on what's next. >> the resolution is adopted. >> reporter: with every republican voting against it, and two democrats defecting, formal impeachment proceedings become a reality. >> it's a sad day, because nobody comes to congress to impeach a president of the united states. no one. >> reporter: the house vote paves the way for public hearings to begin, despite their protests. >> and it happened today, it's a sham. >> reporter: republicans will continue to have input. their lawyers can ask questions. they can call witnesses with democrats' approval, and president trump's attorneys can participate. but some closed door hearings could still happen. >> it gives authority for open hearings, but they cannot go back and fix what is a fundamentally tainted and unfair

6:19 am
i think it's all because of the very dry air we've seen, as our temperatures are right now at 33 degrees in napa, some of the surrounding areas have been below freezing and we've also seen temperatures in the upper 30s in half moon bay as well as livermore and san martin, mostly 40s, elsewhere across the bay area. we're bundling up the kids this morning, heading out the door in concord, with our temperature at 39 degrees, as you're walking to school. but then as they get ready to head out for the rest of the day, lunch and recess outside, they sill may want to put the jackets back on before we warm up into the 70s by this afternoon, in the south bay, expect a high of 78 degrees, in east san jose, 74 degrees in los gatos and we'll see some mid-70s for the east bay with concord reaching 76 and the peninsula reaching 69 degrees in daly city. palo alto a high of 76 there and 70 in the mission district. in the north bay we're reaching into the mid-70s for the next couple of hours, as we go into
6:20 am
the day. we're going to see that for the next several days, i should say, as we are still in the same weather pattern, with an offshore wind, it's very dry. high pressure is setting up just off to our west. this will not change going into the weekend, and the good news is that we don't have low pressure nearby, that created the windy conditions, and the high pressure gradient that we had with the wind events earlier this week. so this will also be blocking any chance of rain in the forecast, going into even early next week, next weekend, all of that stays well to the north of the bay area, as that high pressure does not move. we're in for dry weather going into the next seven days. our morning temperatures will be cool each day, too, with the inland areas mostly in the 40s, highs in the 70s. in san francisco, looking at our weather pattern on repeat. mike, you have a traffic alert in the east bay. >> i do, kari, despite light traffic around the bay, we're looking at the bay bridge toll plaza where the build was slow and still we don't have all the cash lanes filled in past the parking lot just yet.
6:21 am
that's westbound 80. eastbound 80 is where the alert is up here, getting away from the bay bridge, and heading toward highway 4, right around appian way we have a crash which i was told was going to have a traffic break and hopefully it would be clear but enough of an incident, they have to keep activity there, blocking your left lanes, only your right lane, your slow lane gets by and that's a distraction for the westbound commute direction that is causing some slowing as you come out of pinole and head down toward san pablo and richmond. there will be a slow zone around appian way. hopefully they can clear the eastbound lanes very quickly and that will clear up everything but we'll continue to track that. the rest of the bay shows a lighter volume, as we talked about, and so we don't really have a lot of slowing, a little bit for san jose and a little bit for the san mateo bridge. a good note for transit in the north bay, smarttrains restored service from sonoma airport down to san rafael, so the entire stretch is reinstated, still clear though and still free until november 6th. you're supposed to get your
