♪ ♪ welcome to tuesday morning. it's november 5th, election day for six local counties. a nice start to our morning as well, as we take a live look outside from the east bay in walnut creek. thanks for starting your morning with us. i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm marcus washington. let's get a look at the forecast for today. kari, how are we looking? >> looks pretty good again. a live look in dublin and cool temperatures, all clear skies, and we'll see a lot more sunshine, as we goou the day. as we check out our temperature trend for dublin, we'll be down to about 45 degrees to start, and then already up to 70 degrees at noon today. so it does heat up fairly quickly, as we head into the upper 70s today, even a few low

80s in the north bay. i'll have a closer look at this forecast and looking ahead to the rest of the week. mike, thingskari. i saw a big backup in the fastrak lanes for about five minutes. there was a disabled vehicle in lane 11, right about there, so i think that's why there's some slowing still going on but it should be cleared any second. the rest of the fastrak lanes cleared. looks like someone was stuck right there, deciding which lane to take. over in san francisco, there's another issue, getting away from the city, south 101, sorry, north 101, disabled vehicle there, that will cause some distraction until they clear it. should be in the slow lane. that is a sensitive area so we v completely clears and the rest of the bay completely clear. back to you. >> thank you, mike. voters head to the polls in six bay area counties today. >> because it's an off election year fewer races are being decided. am closelywatching the mayoral

debate the future of short-term rentals following the deadly shooting halloween night that killed five people. >> as for the shooting investigation, police are starting to provide some answers. as "today in the bay's" cheryl hurd reports, it may have been retaliation for another crime in san francisco. >> i think we're all also focusing on these families and their loss and their loss is our loss. >> reporter: that's why people, young and old, continue to mourn and bring flowers to this memorial honoring five people shot and killed in orinda halloween night. >> i look at the pictures of the people, the people that were killed and you know there's somebody's child and -- i'll ge. >> reporter: a honors the lives lost, detectives have not let up on their investigation. a car was removed from the home on lucille way, where over atted on social media as acontra cost detectives say the investigation is ongoing, but there are

ughter arriving off ics man accused stabbings on the peninsula has reportedly b fit to stand trial. on friday, the judge ruled that malik dasuki is mentally incompetent. prosecutors say on the back-to-back days in june, he lured two men to skyline boulevard and killed both of them. doctors determined that the defendant had a history of mental health problems, including several hospitalizations. this morning, we'll see if facebook takes action to end online hate speech after a high stakes meeting in silicon valley. kara is one of the best known muslim rights advocates. they spoke about making efforts to remove muslim hate speech from facebook. you may need a program to know who is playing on the warors these days but it looks like last night it changed.

good tuesday morning to you. oh, yes, a little foggy there for you this morning. these are peictures of guess where? you can't, can you? that's the golden gate bridge. >> the golden gate bridge. >> you know. >> i could close my eyes probably. >> you could. it is 4:45. trending this morning a heartwarming moment called the getty fire miracle. last week, putting out all the hot spots a los angeles fire crew spotted a wedding ring in the gutter near a burned out home. they brought it back to the command post, hoping to find the ring's rightful owner. after a little detective work and the help of social media, firefighters were able to find the woman who lost the ring.

>> does this box look familiar to you? she knew immediately what was inside that wbox. she was surprised to see it and it was her mother's wedding ring. >> she had gone through a disaster before at the same address. the bel air blaze of 1961 destroyed her home. the only item to be saved in that fire was that same diamond ring. i don't know if it was in the rush of getting out or whatnot, but they found it. isn't that amazing? >> my mom had her wedding ring on the bed when our house burnt down, ash everywhere, we thought it was gone. >> she found it? >> the firefighters come out that morning, excuse me. >> oh. >> so it's a lot of work. >> no kidding. switching to the forecast, meteorologist kari hall is doing a lot of work as well. >> we're starting out with fog again this morning in san francisco. take a look at this view from san bruno mountain. looks beautiful. we're not seeing a really thick fog. it's just kind of floating

through very shallow layer of it across the city and the bay right now. as we start out, we're also dealing with some smoke kind of trapped in some of fog in san francisco. we've seen some wildfires burning to our north, so we're watching out for our air quality as we go throughout the day that will be moderate, as we see the fog near the coast and some drips of smoke inland. our temperatures start out right now 46 degrees in oakland. it's 41 in napa. in san jose it is 47 degrees, and 50 now in san francisco. getting a closer look at the north bay, where we've seen some of the coldest temperatures. right now novato is down to 39 degrees, but it's 59 in sonoma, and santa rosa at 40 degrees. already a wide range in temperatures, but we're headed into the upper 70s and low 80s today. we'll see a high of 81 degrees in concord. also 81 in napa. in santa rosa we're looking at a high of about 80 degrees in san jose. up to about 79.

as we look ahead to see if there's any rain in the forecast for the next two weeks, the climate prediction center put out their forecast, what we expect for much of the north of month and it looks like for us, we're still well below average in terms of the rain we're going to see, and so it's all because of the high pressure setting up that's going to block our chances of rain, and while it does so, it will also warm up our temperatures, so we'll also have well above normal in this pattern going into next month but we are still going to continue on with some very dry conditions and normally in the inland areas, we're reaching th and low 80s over the next seven days. morning temperatures start out cool with some upper 40s and san francisco today reaching 67 degrees. up to about 70 this friday. mike, you're tracking some debris across the nimitz freeway? >> that's right, 880 all the way around here by the coliseum, reports there was a wooden pallet that was hit, busted up

and then wood debris across the area by 66. our cameras widened out and i was about to ask our crew in the erives the all clear, sort of. they say pieces are so small when folks drive through the area, it will just break up now, so need to worry about the big pieces. we're still going to hear the small pieces as you drive north, though, perhaps for the next few minutes. again what kari is talking about that layer right there. there may be issues with visibility approaching the bay bridge or especially across the golden gate bridge, but not a major problem and no surprises for folks who are frequent commuter there is. frequent commuters gathering at the bay bridge but the earlier stall has cleared so now it's just the cash lanes that are showing a little backup and we should have a couple more lanes opening over the next ten minutes. northbound 101 at cesar chavez the disabled vehicle, source of that, someone pulled over because withapparently a dog wa running around. we're waiting for an update from chp, use caution north of the

280 interchange. everything else is moving nicely, south bay and the tri-valley. back to you. still no sign of a verdict in the case of a bay area real estate heiress accused of murder. jury deliberations resumed in the trial of tiffany lee. prosecutors say she arranged to have her ex-boyfriend keith green killed. he was the father of her children and they believe she was scared about losing a custody battle. investigators testified she worked with her then boyfriend to plan green's murder but her attorneys argue she's been wrongly accused and green was killed in a botched kidnapping. santa clara county leaders debate a full ban on ecigarettes vaping sales, it would apply to unarrp of the the county. in september supervisors banned sales to all people under 21 years old. also today, san mateo county leaders consider the same type of ban. it, too, would apply to all unincorporated areas. this morning, workers at an east bay animal shelter are feeling some relief, after the return of a recently stolen dog.

>> berkeley humane shelter workers believe a volunteer took the dog named ribbon you see right here, this is yesterday morning. police were called as other volunteers tried to track down the dog. in an odd twist, ribbon was found back at the same shelter. it's unclear how the dog returned, but everyone is happy to have him back. >> i am feeling so relieved, felt this morning there was just nothing was quite right and now we're back to everything being right with ribbon back in the house. >> ribbon is a shelter still p it up for adoption soon. iconic point reyes light house days away from reopening to the public. the scaffolding is coming down after a one-year $5 million makeover. >> the damage of 149 years of salt air, saltwater and high winds are scrubbed away and you can see the makeover in person this friday. it's a bit of an endurance test with 308 steps to the rocky
