2016. they celebrated their 25th anniversary. he was instrumental in accomplishing the growth. he spent countless volunteer hours organizing events. speaker nancy pelosi issued a statement today expressing her sadness on the news. a potential tie-up for your commute. highway 121 will be reduced to one lane through tomorrow. yesterday a fuel truck overturned, rupturing one of its tanks and dumping gas over the road. there was so much fuel it could be weakened the asphalt. crews have been on scene all weekend. they have been cleaning and assessing whether a session of that road needs to be replaced. san francisco's latest must recall is a captivating tribute to violence. the artists who have been working on this project at 24th and cap street unveiled it to

the public. it is titled stop the fire in the mission and spearheaded by a local youth organization. half a dozen artists worked on the project. stanford officially opened the doors to its new hospital today. the transportation of about 200 patients to this new facility. staff carefully walked each one across the sky bridge connecting the old hospital to the new one. once in the new facility, each patient was met with applause and fanfare. hospital leaders say it is exciting and rewarding to see their vision turned into a reality. >> we know we are able to provide world class care. what's wonderful is we can do it in this beautiful, healing space. we made all the private rooms. all the rooms have room for their families to speak, which is something we have never been able to offer before and even in the intensive care units. >> the seven story facility

includes 368 patient rooms, 20 operating rooms and a level one trauma center. a warning for driving, dream forest will kick off this week in san francisco. the area will be transformed this tuesday for sales forces five day conference. the keynote speaker is going to be barack obama. other notable speakers will include apple ceo tim cook and depak chopra. one thing missing this year is beef. organizers say they're keeping beef off the menu to conserve water. they say by keeping meat off the menus, millions of bottles of water will be conserved. still ahead, they help keep you in shape, but a major change to fitbit has some people thinking about ditching the popular fitness tracker. why google has become a major concern. and a ground breaking surgery that helped save a bay

fall five parts are waiting for you right there. remembering five lives lost. the event is hosted by the san francisco bay area families for safe streets. people went to the different sites where a loved one one hit and killed in the city. there they honored the victim. there have been several deadly crashes this year. the event finished with a march at city hall where people shared their stories of hardship and survival. >> you never forget. it's ironed into your brain. and what reminds me the most is, you know, the birthdays and family gathering and of course the anniversary of his death. >> advocates say they want changes done to make sure san francisco streets are safer. this is the fifth year the group has marched. a farmer's market officially opened today in the area surrounding the warriors new arena. the year-round market is open

fitbit for $2.1 billion. while some applaud the move, others say they're worried about what google will do with their personal information. google says it will not give the health information to advertisers but some say they still believe the company will share their health information. >> google, you know, they make their dollar off of our data and our information. so this is just another way for them to gather more data and more information. >> analysts say consumers do have legitimate concerns because of google's past behavior selling information. but he adds that it is unlikely google would share any health information that would violate hippa laws. but some fitbit users are so concerned about their privacy, they have already taken their fitbits off and purchased other tracking devices. prooiflsy groups have pushed

regulators to block the fitbit acquisition which the company hopes to close. >> thank you. following some breaking news out of fresno. our nbc station there reports at least nine people were shot in what police are calling a mass casualty shooting. it happened around 6:00 this eveni evening. there was a gathering at a home. that's when the shooter they say snuck into the backyard and opened fire. according to police, there are multiple fatalities. others are being taken to the hospital in critical condition. we're tracking this story for you. we will continue to track it. we will bring you the latest on fire as well as all our digital platforms. president trump is headed to apple's main manufacturing plant this week. the president will tour an apple factory in austin, texas. that will be on wednesday. the plant is where the new mack pro will be assemble. the company shifted production

in september. thanks, but no thanks. unanimously rejected a proposal for xerox to acquire the company. the offer is not in the best interest of shareholders and would undervalue hp. xerox offered 22 dollars per share but that wasn't good enough. hp announced it will slash between 7,000 and 9,000 jobs between 2022. hp is worth $29 billion, which is more than three times the size of xerox. the holidays are just around the corner, and that means plenty of shopping. how to get something for everyone on your list without breaking the bank. we'll show you next. and instead of tracking storms, unfortunately we're tracking another fire weather watch. how long the fire danger will stick around and will we see any

night through thursday morning and through san jose temperatures in the 60s after a high of about 74 degrees. tomorrow morning we'll see mainly clear skies. 40s inland. closer to 50 in san francisco. and then during the day tomorrow we'll begin to see a hint of the cooler changes which will kick in on tuesday. that will be in the form of the return of the coastal low clouds before the offshore winds pick up. we'll take our highs from the upper 70s in spots and drop them into the mid-f 60s. highs tomorrow, one more day in the 70s around san jose. closer to 80. pleasanton closer to 80. and temperatures another day into the low 70s. notice the cooler temperatures right there in the seven day forecast. and san francisco briefly near 70. the sea breeze picking up. and the north bay highs into the mid or upper 70s.

in terms of rain, look at how the best chances are staying out toward south and east. that's also the reason why we're dealing with wind as opposed to rain drops. sets up inland to south and east. the best chance of rain where we're concerned will be in the mountains of southern california. could see some high elevation snow. look at the window here in the bay area. those would be the north winds to offshore breezes which we think will peak in intensity. see these areas here, 20 to 40 miles an hour winds getting into thursday, 5:00 wind speeds drop off. east bay hills, santa cruz mountains, peak wind gusts wednesday. the fire weather catches could be red flag at that point. expire by 7:00 a.m. thursday. notice how the wind speeds do start to come down. what we really need is to get some rain in here. notice how the upper air pattern takes one low out and another

here yooffshore. so this is the shield that continues to block the incoming storms. that might be good news for football next sunday out of levy stadiums. temperatures in the 70s. but look at the rain fall problem here. literally a whole in terms of who is seeing rain and who isn't. southern california has the rain. through the 26th, it doesn't look like much in the cards in terms of any rain to knock down fire dangers. in the meantime, wind will be the story as we get into tuesday night. gusty conditions picking up. the hills in the north bay and east bay above 1,000 feet will see those fire watches upgraded to red flag warnings and potential shut offs could happen in the west bay. we'll be watching closely over the next day or two. >> that doesn't sound like coupon clipping weather. >> no. >> all right. thanks a lot. coming up, two rival teams

visit your local chase branch. >> eight witnesses this week in the impeachment inquiry of president trump. first to testify will be a national security official who was on that phone call with president trump and ukraine's president. >> as the house speaker tells the president he's welcome to testify himself any time. nbc's jennifer johnson reports for us from washington. >> lawmakers facing the busiest week yet in the impeachment inquiry of president trump. eight witnesses expected to testify. the first was on the july 25th phone call between president trump and ukraine's president zelensky. he was so alarmed he reported his concerns to the nfc's top lawyer. >> the president of the united states used military assistance to pressure a foreign leader to

help him in his re-election campaign. that is solicitation of a bribe, and that is an impeachable offense. >> the apparent call transcript the white house previously released is missing parts where the bidens are discussed. the president's supporters claiming there was no quid pro quo. >> there were only two people that participated in that phone call. it was donald trump and president zelensky. both were happy with the phone call. >> they say the door is open for president trump to testify. >> the president could come back before the committee and talk if he wants to take the oath of office or he could do it in writing. >> lawmakers will hear from the ambassador who reassured him ukraine would investigate the bidens. jennifer williams is also

expected to testify. she was on that phone call, too and knows that some of what president trump said was inappropriate. jennifer johnson, nbc news washington. north korea said today that nuclear issues will not be discussed when talks with the united states re-start. that is unless leaders also talk about the withdrawal of the united states's, quote, hostile policy. the north's foreign ministry said in a recent passage of the united nation's resolution on human rights with u.s.-led political provocation. earlier in the day the united states and south korea announced they will postpone upcoming military drills to calm tensions with north korea. >> reports of fires and explosions in hong kong as police storm on to a college campus held by protesters despite an ultimatum. police have been threatens to use live ammunition amid rising violence in the chinese city.

anti-government protests have been raging in the city for months. matt bradley reports from hong kong. >> reporter: this protest movement now well into his six months still going on. in fact, the protesters have increased both the intensity and the frequency of their confrontations with police. as you can see behind me, they have actually escalated their use of molotove cocktails and they're using something like almost medieval weapons, catapults, bows and arrows. we're half a mile away from hong kong. it is one of five universities here in hong kong that were occupied and it is the last one that remains under occupation by the protesters. and actually the protesters have kind of almost into the police on all five. we can see them running battles like this all day long where police have threatened that if the protesters continue to use

the molotove cocktails that they will actually engage them with live ammunition. a lot of these protesters will be facing serious punishment if arrested. the stakes are quite high here, even as this protest movement continues to drag on. matt bradley, nbc news hong kong. another high tide port into an already flooded venice today as the city experiences its worst flooding in more than 50 years. look at these pictures. tourists trying to get around the city in high boots and rain door. the mayor declared a state of emergency after flood waters pounded buildings that are hundreds of years old. now a unique story of survival involving a hurricane and cows. the hurricane dorian made land fall in september. the entire area was underwater

because of the storm surge. some victims of that flooding wild cows. the storm moved them to an unlikely new pasture. for more than a century, wild horses and cows have roamed seeder island. but when hurricane dorian came ashore, the storm coraled 28 of the island's horses and at least 20 wild cows. they simply disappeared, gone, leaving ronda hunter and her grandchildren heart broken. >> it is cool to see cows on the beach. >> many held out hope they didn't all drown. >> there have been animals living on this island for years and years. they have always found a way to survive. >> months after the storm, three of the cows that were washed away have turned up more than three miles away on another island. the most likely explanation, the

the fight of his life. the family turned to hospitals around the country. some suggesting open brain surgery, others radiation. but a team of surgeons at stanford in california wanted to try a ground breaking approach. >> we have never done operation in such a small kid. actually most people probably say it's not possible. >> to do the impossible, doctors wanted to go through ari's nose, a so-called ev eed surgery to rd remove the tumor. >> look at the anatomy in all directions. i see my approach. >> using that 3d model, surgeons were able to spend hours practicing the procedure. >> if you are not careful, you can injure the artery, get a major bleeder. >> on surgery day, the stakes were high. for ari's mother it was overwhelming. >> and i'm bawling. i can't handle it.

it's the rifvalry game between these high schools. the game almost didn't take place this year because of smoke from the kinkaid fire nearby. in the end, the game was played on schedule. who won? well, everyone. >> the high school football team going in their last game of this season. >> on your mark, get set, go. >> did not have what coach would call a good record. >> it was a tough year. it was a tough year for the wins and losses. >> you got it. you got it. >> but for that final game against their rival, coach chris did have a play up his sleeve. he just knew it would turn the trojans losing record into a winning season. >> so we ran flex 25 draw, and he was the draw. >> "he" is aiden, a 17-year-old senior with cerebral palsy. it is a condition that makes it

hard for aiden to speak. but when it comes to football, it is easy to understand. he fell in love with the sport as a little boy when he would take him to high school games. being a part of that team, brett knew would mean the world to aiden. >> prior to his freshman year, during that summer, i called up coach and said is there any way you could get aiden somehow involved in the team in any capacity. and the coach said absolutely. we would love to. maybe make him a water boy. >> coach chris never regretted that decision for a moment. >> he never missed one practice. not one game, not one practice. he embodies everything that as a coach you want your program to be. he's all about, instead of him, which is great. >> but at the end of the last game of his last season as water boy, coach wanted the moment for

once to be about him. so they suited him up, handed him the ball and watched him score. >> and if you watch the video, he does a little hop after he scores his touchdown. for aiden to even express himself to that regard, i think speaks volumes to how truly excited he was about it. >> i'm not a crier by nature, but, yeah, i broke down and cried. i was lucky to be that person to get to choose that, but there was people that made that decision. >> coach chris wanted to make sure there was a big shout-out of thanks to the high school. the came was actually played on their home turf and their entire team and all their fans willingly participated in aiden's play. still ahead, a free lunch with a doctor and a promise of cutting edge pain relief. now patients who bought in are unsure what's inside their

people with chronic pain are lining up to get stem cell injections and they paid deerly for the hope of relief. >> we have spent the last six months investigating claims that they use stem cells. we talked to patients, doctors and regulators for concerns about this clinic and hundreds of others nationwide. >> stem cells are microscopic and potentially huge all at the same time. researchers are in labs day trying to figure out if they can question generation tissue. some say they're too early, too risky and too expensive. >> i have all kinds of stuff here. >> she is in pain. >> i wanted to fix all that so i didn't feel like i was 80 years

they actually injected into you? >> no. >> she says she was injected with a product made from donated placenta tissue according to the manufacture. other players say they use similar material. doctors are skeptical that by the time placenta is processed and injected any stem cells are still alive. we tried to get more details and a sample from the manufacturer, be you the company did not return our calls. stem cell clinics are popping up all over. the food and druk ag administran estimates 700 worldwide. >> none are proven to work to treat these conditions and worse some way cause harm. >> why doesn't the fda just shut down stem cell clinics and their suppliers? because they straddle a gray area. so buyer beware.

in the age of digital shopping, big box retailer kohls has decided to try a different strategy. how the retailer is using online returns as a big push into home goods to draw customers into their stores. >> department stores have struggled to excite shoppers in recent years as mall traffic has fallen. amazon has grown and consumers turn to the brands directly. competitors like macy's, jp

pennies and sears have closed a lot of stores. but kohls has leaned into its stores. ceo mill shell goss says the retailer is excited about it. the expectation is it will be, quote, economically creative. so the department store is focussing on newness. the keyword see and others used to describe the holiday strategy and beyond. while total sales disappointed in the most recent quarter, kohls under performed the rest of the store. they are hoping its private band by property brothers will get shoppers spending. it is the largest launch the retailer has ever done. >> kohls has been more aggressive.

another round of mid 70s, close to 70s in san francisco and near 80 degrees in livermoore and santa rosa. but theish y issue will be the on wednesday. the reason why this looks to be a dry system, as you will notice, it drops down inland. now, if it contracts further to the west, then maybe we see a chance of showers. but the wind here, that is the top concern as we head for wednesday and thursday. these fire weather watches ending at 7:00 a.m. thursday, very likely will get upgraded to some red flag warnings. elevations above 1,000 feet in the north bay and in the east bay hills. even as our temperatures drop, the fuel moisture is near all-time dry levels for this time in november. so it's a combination of the wind direction, dry winds and very dry hillsides, which as
