5:00 on our friday morning. and a look at the forecast. >> and we'll have a great weekend. i'm looking forward it that. and we are starting out with some cool air as you get ready to head out for that commute in antioch and we'll see the need for it that heat to start out the day. but maybe roll the windows down as the day goes along with our temperatures reaching in the mid to upper 60s and we'll see more weather like this has we go into the next couple days. we'll talk about the changes ahead as well. and we have slowing heading north through palo alto. i've seen slowdowns, little brakes as crews start to clear. this is standard about this time. you will see slowing in toward san mateo. not a major concern right there. rest of the bay shows a smooth drive. and we'll show you the bay bridge coming up. and breaking news in the south bay, a police standoff is

unfo unfolding. >> and some neighbors had to spend the night out of their homes. and kris sanchez is joining us live near oak grove high school with the latest. >> reporter: there is still a police presence out here in this neighborhood. a much smaller presence, a much quieter presence. but we do know that there are folks who have not been allowed back into their homes. it all started around 5:30 yesterday evening with what neighbors say sounded like two explosions. they quickly evacuated homes in the area and neighbors say they started calling over a loud speaker for a man to come out for the sake of his family. we're not identifying the man, but a woman claiming to be his wife says that this is a probation issue simply that went wrong and that her husband wouldn't hurt anybody. >> i think this is ridiculous and if they really wanted him to come out, all they have to do is ask me to go get him. but they don't want me to go in

there. i could stop all this in five seconds. >> reporter: as police were trying to contact that man inside, there was a police helicopter overhead,en an armor personnel carrier and we can see officers in body armor. and we are not giving away any tactical information here which is always a concern when a suspect could be watching the news for information about police position. this is not far from oak grove high school where three days ago an explosive device was found in the student parking lot. at this point police are not saying whether that has anything do with what is happening here other than to say that it is just happening in the same neighborhood. and there are people again who are out of their homes. as soon as they are allowed to go back in, we'll let you novembeknow. kris sanchez, "today in the bay." and richmond police are talking about what has been a violent past couple of days. officers are investigating two shootings that injured 60s people. the first happened wednesday

afternoon on south 20th street. in that case four people were injured, but all are expected to be okay. and in the second shooting, it happened on chancellor avenue. one of the two people shot is in critical condition. so far no arrests have been made in either shooting. new arrests made in the halloween masked shooting and federal agenciies are asking fo your help and there is a reward being offered. >> reporter: that's right, atf is offering a reward up to $20,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the deadly shooting. take a look, these are pictures atf shared with us late last night when agents executed warrants obtained by the sheriff's office. two people were arrested, a gun was seized and we are told that it is linked to multiple shootings in the bay area. you may remember the d.a. made a

decision earlier this week not to charge five people arrested in the deadly shooting that occurred halloween night. the 4,000 square foot home was used as an airbnb rental. and the two arrested yesterday are not the same people who were released earlier this week. reporting live in orinda, sharon katsuda, "today in the bay." and taking a live look at capitol hill where the impeachment hearing is over. but this is after fee oionna hid david holmes addressed house members yesterday. and now lawmakers have to figure out if there is enough evidence to hold an impeachment trial. tracie potts is reporting from capitol hill on what is next. >> we are better than that. adjourn adjourned. >> reporter: launches are determined where impeachment goes next. >> we aren't finished. >> reporter: the house

intelligence committee will summarize all of the testimony and hand it over to the judiciary committee to determine if there is enough evidence to charge president trump and with what. >> there is more than enough evidence which i believe is overwhelming that he committed impeachable offenses. >> reporter: the last two witnesses corroborated what we've already heard, alleging that president trump had his personal attorney rudy giuliani directing an eflt to exchange aid for an investigation of the bidens. >> and you heard president trump ask ambassador sondland is he going to do the investigation? >> yes, sir. >> reporter: and that it wasn't ukraine that was meddling. >> this is a fictional narrative. >> reporter: if the president is impeached, senate republicans are already meeting with the white house planning for a trial that could last as little as two weeks. white house aides say president trump welcomes that. >> he wants a trial in the senate. he wants to be able to bring up

witnesses like adam schiff, like the list, like hunter biden, like joe biden. >> now everybody is going to have their day in court. some people aren't going it like that. >> reporter: it is up to the house whether to vote on impeachment. no time line yet for when that might happen. now lawmakers are headed home for the thanksgiving bret posihe they will hear from you the public. recent polls show a split on whether he should be impeached. tracie potts, nbc news. and happening today, hot on the heels of three days of public impeachment hearings, jackie speier is back among her constituents. >> and her official focus today will be on seniors. later this morning, she will appear with other leaders for the 32nd annual on the move conference. that conference will focus on seniors maintaining their physical and mental healths a they age. and as many people expected,

san francisco voters in march will actually have a chance to weigh in on taxing empty store fronts. the examiner reports that supervisors approved the ballot measure yesterday. it would tax owners of those buildings $250 per foot of vacant store front beginning in the year 2021. but first the buildings would have to be vacant for at least six months. suchlt supporters say it would provide incentive to lease the spaces. and happening today, a popular holiday attraction returns to san francisco's union square. at 5:00 p.m., macy's and spya will unveil the annual holiday window's display. anyone walking by from tonight through new year's day between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. will see some cute and cuddly and very adoptable pets.

pu over to make a phone call. >> and make sure that you have your change. >> we'll keep reminiscing about that. >> and maybe we can talk about our aches and pains. >> because we used to walk to school in the snow. >> that's right. here is a live look outside in san francisco. it is a nice start to the day. just a few clouds. we've seen some patches of fog and it is chilly. so if you are about to step out, maybe heading to the b.a.r.t. station, it will be in the low 50s and then we see it slowly warming up today. but hey, at least we have the sun and not as windy. but we are also going to be turning our attention to our chances of rain. finally in the forecast. now, here is an area of low pressure, we can see it up near alaska. and this will slide down into the bay area going into next week. so our rain chances go up starting on tuesday with rainfall totals anywhere from a tenth of an inch to an inch. and part of that is because we

are seeing computer models really disagree at this point. but it does look like that we could see some low elevation snow from 2,000 to 3,000 feet. and up to a foot of snow in the sierra. and the main issue is where does that area of low pressure sfllo? that is something that we'll be watching. we'll have some breezy wind as high pressure still remains in control for a few more days. and then tuesday and wednesday, we start to see the low dropping again and the widespread rain across the region. and some of cooler temperatures. we will once again be trackinth 70s to the mid-50s. so get ready for that change. mike, this is not your typical friday. >> and that is why we're seeing the metering lights turn on at the typical time. sounds weird, but monday through

thursday, we typically see the metering lights turn on. and the new pattern is 5:15. but fridays we typically ease off. today we're seeing a buildup and what happens is on friday before thanksgiving, folks try to get into the office early and we presume it is so that they can get out early as well. and by saturday, they are usually at their destination for folks who are able to take next week off. right now we are looking at a backup eastbound 80 and northbound i-5 off of 580, that is out of livermore. because folks will be heading toward perhaps see a sierra. and ko south counties are just fine right now. and coming up here, we have more for you including it is that time of year again. have you seen our feed the need campaign? >> are that's right, a busy

and a nice day. we'll talk more about that weekend forecast and the rain coming up. and we have overnight road crews coming into the northern fremont area. and now northbound is slowing here. you see the crews here and the stro volume is building. and we'll continue to track this. and the bay bridge, metering lights were turned on and we'll talk about that coming up. breaking news that we're following, a standoff unfolding in the south bay. some south san jose neighbors spent the night out on the streets out of their homes as the standoff between san jose police and a barricaded man enters hour 11. >> and kris sanchez is live in that neighborhood. has anything changed from the last time we spoke with you?

>> reporter: well, within just the last few minute, we got confirmation from police that this is still ongoing. the scene is more quiet, but investigators are down there and they are processing the scene for information. we don't know whether or not there has been an arrest, but we know that it was related to the serving of a search warrant out here. that information coming just in the last few minutes from the spokesperson for the police. and the scene was different last night. it was around 5:30 last night, neighbors say they heard what sounded like two explosions. san jose police quickly evacuated the homes around the area and neighbors say that they started calling over a loud speaker for a man to come out for the sake of his family. a woman claiming to be his wife says that she is not even sure that he was inside the home at the time. what neighbors know is that this is very frustrating to not be able to go home.

>> i was looking for about one hour but i wouldn't find it. >> was there is a lot of police there? >> yes, the police is there. >> reporter: as police were trying to go negotiate with the man inside, there was a helicopter, armored personnel out here, and we want to make clear we didn't give away any tactical information. but as you mentioned, this is not far from oak grove high school where three days ago there was an active explosive device found in a student parking lot. and at this point police are not saying whether that device and the sounds herd in the heard in the neighborhood are related. and within the last couple minutes, the superintendent says that school will be in session for oak grove high school. last night activities were canceled as a precaution, but

classes will be in session. they did miss a couple days earlier this week because of that explosive device found. but classes are on for today. kris sanchez, "today in the bay." and new details this morning on the weapon used by a student who shot and killed two classmates. this was last week at a southern california school. investigators say the 14-year-old gunman used a ghost gun without a serial number. they are still trying to track down how he obtained that gun. he took his own life. and taking a live look at the golden gate bridge on this friday morning, happening today with the new you barrier now taking shape, district leeflead to try to educate people about the project. they are wanting to budget a

quash of a million for the design and installation. the cost is more than $200 million. and a scare at l.a.x., and can see where the flames were shooting from the plane's engine. this is midair. the philippine airlines plane took off just before noon. and you can see the smoke coming off of the plane. pilots made an emergency landing back at l.a.x. and here is what passengers had to say. >> at the same time that the noise was happening, the plane would shake. and then out of the window, you could see like orange, yellow, red like colors like every time that the plane shook and you heard the noise. >> certainly scary situation. but the good news, no one was hurt. the cause of the fire is under investigation. so the 9ers and green bay packers play sunday. and if you are still thinking about getting tickets, be ready

i'll be watching. >> every time we show jimmy g, i feel like i have to puff out my chest a bit. the bay bridge toll plaza had the meer the metering lights are turned on. remember, friday is the last day of work for some folks who are fortunate enough to take next week off. and some folks like my schokids schools are off next week. but we have a smooth flow through contra costa county. watch out for a different flow this afternoon. there was slowing in san jose. north 101, waze talks about speeds in that stretch at about 35 miles per hour. but waze will help you wherever you may venture over the river

or through the woods perhaps to grandmother's house. >> in y there you go. and the weekend is here. and we'll kick it off tonight with the tree lighting. and so it will be a nice evening in oakland. and we'll see our temperatures cooling off, make sure that you are ready to be bundled up. we will see the temperatures dropping down into the mid-50s and skies will stay clear. for tomorrow, we have some beautiful weather across the bay area. reaching into the low 60s for the coast, the bay up to 67 degrees. and inland areas in the low 70s. and then by sunday, we also see more of the same weather, nice warm temperatures and sunshine. tomorrow we've been talking about this, i'll be out in livermore at the first street location near 580 and we do have some sunshine as well. so you can pick up your groceries, come by and say hello. and then also help another family in need for just $10. and we'll see sunshine, its warming up to about 70 degrees.

and then if you are looking for a family friendly activity to do, sunday in livermore, we have the ranch and you can enjoy the beautiful weather. temperatures in the upper 60s and sunshine. if you are going out of town, you are going sierra, they will reach up to 44 today and maybe a light coating of snow on the upper mountains that you can see in the distance. and we'll see some sunshine throughout the weekend as temperatures make it up to broke 53. we're also going to see more of the same cool mornings, but mild afternoons. and then if you are thinking of heading to the beach, santa cruz is looking pretty good. the warmest day will be tomorrow as we reach 70 degrees. and we'll talk about what is going on in south bay coming up. and we're posting information about where we'll be this weekend.

happy friday. it is 5:44 and we are taking a look at a clear view in walnut creek this morning. you will need a heavier jacket. it is a cooler start. take a look at these numbers. we're down to 43 degrees at 7:00. and then a slow warm-up in our temperatures throughout the day with sunshine. but it will shape up to a nice one. we'll have the weekend forecast and we're getting ready for some rain, i'll have details on all of it coming up. right now you see the traffflow increasing. i'll point out the road crews on the side of the road. the overnight construction has almost cleared. it is an early backup. washington gets ready for the next step in the impeachment

process. good morning. public hearings are finished unless some new witnesses step forward. and congress will take a break for thanksgiving. so what happens after that? the case is going to go to the house judiciary committee. that is where impeachment hearings actually usually begin. but past impeachment hearings had a special prosecutor. they were the ones who interviewed witnesses in their impeachment. in president trump's case, there was no spk ecial prosecutor. if the judiciary committee decides to, it will send the articles of impeachment to the full house. and then the trial will get under way in the senate. we did not learn a whole lot new from the last round of witnesses though they reinforced what has ban said in the past. president trump withheld a meeting and military aid from our ally in order to convince them to investigate the bidens. this woman is dr. fiona hill, a top measure adviser and an immigra

immigrant. some the republican side have interest willed or in the case of some said americans who come from other places may be suspect. vindman for instance. american war hero whose family fled the soviet union. >> i do not believe that my loyalty to do the you nighted kingdom, it is to the united states. this is the country that i serve and i know that every single one my colleagues felt the same way. i think that it is deeply unfair. >> so that is a wrap on this part of the impeachment process. big question, will any of these people testify in the judiciary process? mulvaney admitted to a quid pro quo before withdrawing it. bolton is quoting saying it was a drug deal. pompeo pulled in to it by testimony, he knew said several witnesses. of course giuliani is the main guy in all of this. the white house would not let any of these people testify. as i've often said, let's take a

outside? palo alto as you head out on this friday morning. and it is starting out cool with mid-40s and we will see all clear skies throughout the day. and we'll be at 60 degrees at noon. and we're also tracking our next storm system set to move in by the middle of next week. and it is still having time to get here, so we have more days of warm weather and sunshine. but take a look at this area of low pressure up rn alasaround a that will diving down and then we'll see our rain chances going up. and some of the totals right now show anywhere from a tenth of an inch up to an inch. and for the sierra, we are looking at low elevation snow. this will be a colder storm so we could drop the snow levels down to 2 to 3,000 feet. and we could see anywhere from 6 to 12 inches of snow in the

sierra. the main issue right now will be where does it track if it is farther inland, that means less rain and snow. but closer to the snow, that means more of a draw of that humidity off of the pacific. and a little bit momore rain. but again, this is between tuesday and wednesday. and this will spread moisture across california and bring in much needed rain as well as some of cooler temperatures. once again, our models have still disagreed on how much rain we could see. this is a look at the euro model showing some higher coastal amounts. up to 2 1/2 i thinches here. but then the gfs is pushing the rain farther south and showing higher amounts there while the north bay barely gets anything. so we'll see how this shakes out going into the next several days. but look at our drop in temperatures. we have inland temperatures in the low 70s. but then by tuesday, we are

struggling to stay in the mid-50s. so we will have a big drop in temperatures by thanksgiving. mike, you have a crash along the east shore freeway. >> and here is a note also along the east bay here, the bay bridge toll plaza, metering lights were turned on. and folks getting to work a little early perhaps. we're looking at the rest of the approach, and fine until this crash west 80. and it is cleared to the shoulder ghonow. and there is mild slowing. you see south 880, a typical pattern, but again friday despite the bay bridge with the metering lights turned on, everything either is showing a lighter build. and remember early morning commute will have that burst and then mid-morning easing off. afternoon and evening will get really crowded because folks are
