delays over the coming days as this winte tens of millions of americans are bracing for a series of storms just in time for thanksgiving snow already pounding several states the roads already dangerous. and in new york, some deflating news the iconic balloons from the macy's thanksgiving day parade may not fly for the first time since 1971 if sustained winds are over 23 miles an hour and gusts top 34 miles an hour. >> we have a lot of things in place to prepare ourselves for any kind of weather conditions but, you know, we really won't know until we get to that day. >> reporter: some airports are rolling out new technology this is miami's new automated baggage screening area and the tsa says new orleans' new screening area lets officers houren twice as many b outside the airport rideshare is employing traffic engineers to prepare them for the holiday rush >> thanksgiving is going to be

really busy. i don't want to sugar coat that. i think people are going to need to anticipate long lines >> reporter: now, back here in new york, preparations for the big parade are already underway. officials here say they will make a game-time decision on thursday morning whether those balloons will fly. frances? >> we are keeping our fingers crossed. gabe, thanks now turn to nbc meteorologist bill karins tracking it all for us i'm still holding on tight we'd love to see them. >> of course the biggest issue we're going to have with the balloons is going to be probably late morning. so hopefully the winds will be low enough in the morning they can actually get up there and maybe lower them we'll figure it out in the next 48 hours as far as the middle of the country this is storm 1. we have the snow coming down on i-25 from denver and colorado springs. from denver and minneapolis will be the area of concern right over the top oi-80 there, especially through nebraska if the rain goes, we'll have travel issues on 55.

if you're heading north to chicago, nothing huge. thankfully in the northeast when the storm comes through, there is not a lot of rain left with it there will be some especially northern portions of new england. the gusty winds will cause some issues wednesday's travel at the airport, still gusty winds maybe major impact o'hare, detroit, new york any time it's windy with volume there, there are issues. >> if worse comes to worse, we'll have snoop i >> that's a good idea. >> throwing out ideas, bill. thank you. breaking overnight, a man triggers a partial hospital evacuation in connecticut. officials say the bizarre incident started when the guy pulled a contaminated towel from his back pack and threw it on the desk in the waiting room in a fit of rage. a hazmat team was called to the yale-new haven hospital. 35 people were evacuate and had several others were isolated it wasn't immediately clear what the towel was contaminated with. but the guy left the scene and police are now investigating >> in los angeles, a carjacking suspect wreaked havo ae machetea

recorded american history is that presidents are not king nbc's tracie potts joins us with the latest from d.c. tracie, what could this latest ruling mean for the inquire? >> reporter: frances, it could mean john bolton could be forced to testify he and other current and former white house employees have avoided subpoenas by congress in the impeachment inquiry at the direction of the white house but based on this ruling, the intelligence committee has already said they may have more people to testify. and now it looks like that may become a reality because the white house may not be able to block it >> this ruling is rock solid as a legal basis. it seems very unlikely the supreme court would have any rational reason for hearing this sort of a case on appeal >> reporter: now, keep in mind this ruling applies to don mcgahn who lawmakers wanted to talk to.
