welcome to tuesday, november 26th. get ready, here comes the rain. we fired up the nbc bay area storm ranger to track the incoming storm, which arrives in just a matter of hours. cool start to our morning, too. a very good morning to you. thanks for joining us. i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm marcus washington. let's get straight to that weather. we are expecting the rain to come, any time soon? >> later on this afternoon. we can see on the satellite imagery as i widen it out it's still well to the north of us but moving quickly and we should start to see rain moving from north to south as we go into later this afternoon into the evening, and so once again we have storm ranger that's our mobile doppler radar, we have it parked on san bruno mountain scanning the bay area. it will give us a detailed view of some rain as it falls into

asth we go hour by hour, we tak it into this morning, into the afternoon. notice up around ukiah as well as clearlake and some of our upper elevations in the north bay we could see this initially coming in as snow, because the temperatures will stay very chilly today. rain elsewhere as it approaches san francisco and the early afternoon, and then some bouts of heavy rain starting to work its way into the peninsula by 4:00, and then into the south bay by 5:00 to 6:00 this evening. so we are going to have some heavy rain associated about this front, our first significant storm that we've had since may 18th, so it's on the way today and mike, you're already tracking a crash in pleasant hill. >> i am, but we have dry roads with the the crash on-ramp pleasant hill westbound 24, we'll get more detail when chp arrives. no slowing on our freeway sensors there. all of contra costa county just fine, so is the rest of the bay on the freeways, in the south bay, we're zooming in to police activity on city streets not far

from san jose state on santa clara, we're going to head it off back to you, marcus, for the breaking news. >> let's get to it there live in downtown san jose, the breaking news mike was talking about. "today in the bay's" kris sanchez is at the scene near where all the police activity is going on it. kris, what have you been able to find out? >> reporter: hi there, marcus. we're just a few blocks from san jose city hall and a few blocks from san jose state. this is the scene here, where santa clara street is shut down between seventh street and eighth street right now, and in the distance you can see one of the police bearcat s.w.a.t. type heavier duty van from san jose police in a parking lot trained on a car know what happened around 3:00 this morning. a san jose police officer saw what was a suspicious vehicle, called for someone to come out of that vehicle. we don't know if somebody came out of that vehicle and in our video, you can see that the officers fired rubber b c is in

that belongs to a small office building. we saw a sign for a lawyer and also for a dentist so we don't know that office building is related but that's where the car is this morning. san jose police have been out here since about 3:00 this morning, not telling us much, other than the fact this started with what seemed to be a suspicious vehicle. there are a number of officers out here along with that heavier duty bearcat type of police vehicle. there is a san jose state police vehicle out here so we don't know if this is aniness dhaent perhaps started on campus or near campus at the san jose state police officers are involved or offering a mutual aid here. we can hear some annou saying but the prim tear is santa clara street shut down between seventh and eighth street. we'll try to get more information for you and give it

to you here and post it on social as soon as we get it. s kris sanchez, checking back h you. it's 4:34. more breaking news oversea this thquise brought down buildings leaving people trapped in albania. so far at least 14 people have died, at least 600 are injured. we have new video coming in to our newsroom of rescuers going through the rubble. they're trying to save people that are caught in all that debris. the 6.4 earthquake was centered about 20 miles northwest off the capital, it was felt along the albanian coast. so far, more than two dozen people have been pulled alive from the rubble and collapsed buildings. numerous aftershocks are complicating the rescue efforts. we'll continue to follow breaking news and bring you updates every half hour. 4:34. you might say the bay thirsting for this, talking about the rage and most likely something you're talking about with thanksgiving dinner.

right time. >> reporter: terry mcsweeney, "today in the bay." >> another way to stay informed on the rain our interactive radar. head over to nbcbayarea.com and there on our front page just type in your zip code to get a closer look at what's going on in your neighborhood. union city police so far are coming up empty in the search for a gunman who shot and killed two young boys over the weekend near their school parking lot. new surveillance video from the home of someone who lives nearby shows the volley of gunfire that killed the two boys, ages 11 and 14. the boys were in a van that appears to have hit a tree. that shooting happened earlier saturday morning. here is what union city police are saying about that investigation. >> we had to find any suspects involved in this and we've yet to find a motive for this. we are still looking into the potential angle that this could be, there could be some gang involvement in the shooting.

[ speaking in foreign language ] >> now we spoke to the mother of the 11-year-old victim, when she visited the parking lot where her son, named kevin, and his friend, were killed. she told us nothing will bring him back. 4:37. two adults and two children are back on dry land this morning after their boat overturned yesterday in bodega bay. the images of the boat, their helicopter true responded along with the coastguard. by the time they arrived the group was out of the water, all taken to the hospital but all dp expected to be okay. authorities credit the the seas follows form, we could see a super bowl rematch this year between t ahe the ravens. whatever the case, the teams will play next sunday and the niners had better be ready. the ravens dominated last night on monday night football in a performance almost as dominant as the niners game sunday night. baltimore beat the l.a. rams

headlines. wall street is searching for a direction this morning, following yesterday's rally. the dow and the nasdaq and the s&p 500 all closing at new record highs. investors taking to heart suggestions of a thaw in trade talks with china and cheered away mergers by the $16 billion deal to buy tiffany. on today's watch list, new home prices, new home sales and consumer confidence. facebook is launching a marketing program that lets users earn cash. people enhance the benefits. completing online chores or trying out new apps or devices ahead of theirlaunch. it takes 15 minutes transmitting to a $5 reward paid through paypal. facebook claims it will only use the data it collects internally and will not sell it. ford taking issue with elon musk, during tesla's unveiling of the cyber truck last week musk played a video of the truck pulling a ford f-150 pitched as

listen to this, snoopy may go rogue. we're talking about this because gusty winds in new york city could deflate the nation's largest thanksgiving day parade thursday. the macy's parade is famous for its iconic giant character balloons but it may be too windy to allow them to move the ground. regulations were put in place after the high going to be a lo tv to fill thursday morning. >> i know. >> they were just saying they'll bring them down closer, like they won't be lifted up. they'll be basically walking down the try street. >> and they have the dancers. >> it's still going to be fun. >> so many people from across the country go and the bands. >> we'll be watching that while we have some breaks in the rain on thanksgiving day, but we're getting ready for this that will be moving in going into this afternoon. we can see the storm system, a lot of those bright white clouds as we take a look at our satellite and radar, and just a

little bit of rain, as it approaches the coast. we'll track that on radar. we have storm ranger and mobile doppler radar in the bay area and it's going to give us a better view w see the rain we still have a few more hours throughout the morning to get ready for that rain, and antioch approaching from the north but we start out with cool temperatures, and this is something we have to get used to, because look at the bottom of the screen. no more warm weather headed our way. we're going to see a lot of clouds as we go into the afternoon and this is a look at our high temperatures for today, that's it, 53 degrees in oakland today. 54 in san jose. santa rosa reaching 52 degrees. we'll quickly start to see those clouds spreading in, going into late morning, and the rain right behind that, and it could be so cold initially that our upper elevations will see some snow in the north bay and that's at 12:30 this afternoon. we could see that rain moving in to san francisco, as well as

oakland, right around lunch time, and then continuing to make its way into the east bay, with some scattered showers. it may not reach san jose until around sunset but we are going to get some heavy rain moving in, that will be off and on with some scattered showers throughout the day tomorrow, and so we're looking at right now some of our computer models, still going back and forth on how much rain we could see but check this out, it shows ukiah could reach over two inches of rain and fremont gets about one inch of rain. for the sierra, significant snow over the next several days, this takes about seven days so initially we're going to see it about two to three feet of snow and then it continues to fall from now until next tuesday. so we're going to get some significant snow, really hazardous travel conditions across the sierra, and we're going to see the off and on showers starting this afternoon, and cool temperatures, but we do take a break from the rain on thanksgiving day as well as black friday. we'll talk more about what's ahead after that, coming up.

mike, you've been tracking the roads and looks busy already at the bay bridge. >> it is. we're talking about the bay bridge for two reasons. one, we have a sizeable backup that's formed for the cash lanes, and also chp gave an overnight wind advisory for the span, they got caught with a gust or two and kari is talking about the changing weather so keep that in mind. it's dry now. afternoon and evening those commutes will get complicated by rain coming in. over here we're looking at a smooth drive, highway 24 that crash only faekaffects the plea hill on-ramp. early commute out of antioch, our friends at waze timed it out for antioch over toward the bay bridge right now it takes about 45 minutes, but if you wait another 15 minutes, it takes an hour to get there, so then it's adding on to your time. keep that in mind how dramatically things will change with the early portion with the build. tuesday morning before thanksgiving this may be a last you had you r

hurral. south bay and peninsula are looking great on the freeways. by san jose state santa clara street closed between seventh and eighth, theic in to the scene and 101 shows slowing as you approachtrstruction zone north of willow. developing in central california police looking for a gunman who sparked chaos for shoppers at a bakersfield mall. >> two people are hit by gunfire and expected to be okay. it happened in the food court and the mall went on lockdown. there's no word on what led up to it but this is not the first time that there's been deadly violence at that same mall. the man died there in a gang related shooting two days before christmas in 2005. new details on a person shot during gun battle at an oakland coin shop. the shoot-out happened yesterday and involved armed robbers and a store owner. the innocent bystander hit in thecross-fire is expected to be okay.

bridge, mike's keeping tabs on the morning commute for you to help you get out the door if that's where you're headed. if not sit back, we have a lot more news ahead. a follow-up for you now to a story we've been following, concerns that st. mary's college as we told you yesterday some students say the school is not acting quickly enough when there are security concerns. it follows a situation last week web there was a brief scare after an online posting that later turned out to be harmless. eventually the college went on lockdown. students believe too much time lapsed before the school notified them of the potential danger. at a demonstration students voiced their concerns. >> it was panic, it was terrifying. i didn't know what was going to happen, if i was about to hear gunshots, if my life was at risk. >> i wanted to come out and hear and let the students know we do care about them and their safety and security is key to us. >> it took nearly an hour to
