7:03 am
hey, gabe, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, there's major construction at laguardia, it can be a mess on a good day but thankfully the tsa line is moving smoothly. we look at the departure board, we can see that virtually all the flights are on time but the series of winter storms are expected to have a ripple effect across the country this morning, a series of storms is threatening thanksgiving from treacherous ice in washington state to heavy snow in colorado. >> i think denver's supposed to get 16 inches of snow so we are a little concerned that we might be trapped. >> reporter: travelers now racing to beat the worst of it and hopefully get where they're going before the holidays. >> how hectic it is, so we wanted to get out of here. >> reporter: more than 55 million people are expected to travel between wednesday and sunday that's 1.6 million more than last year. the second highest jump since aaa began recording data. >> we knew the thanksgiving crush was tuesday, wednesday, thursday, so we're surprised

thanksgiving holiday for a long time we have snow falling in denver 16 states, 22 million people under some sort of winter weather advisory, winter storm watch or blizzard warning, so for today, storm number one severe storms from illinois to louisiana, snow from denver to minneapolis where we'll see delays there chicago, st. louis and houston delays also. we move into tomorrow, a rain/snow mix for new england, strong winds moving into the northeast. airport delays from the new york area, boston, detroit, minneapolis, chicago, down to nashville and atlanta. then we've got this second powerful storm coming into the pacific northwest with hurricane force winds offshore, airport delays, portland and san francisco, we move into tomorrow as this thing moves further to the east, the snow will spread more into the rockies, bringing a flash flood watch into san diego. they could see flooding, airport delays, l.a., san francisco, big hub in salt lake city, and let's look at thanksgiving day here's what we're expecting a western chill, a flood threat down through southern

officials from cooperating with the inquiry, former white house counsel don mcgahn has been ordered that he must obey a house subpoena to appear before congress mcgahn advised the president on all legal issues concerning the administration a federal judge writing in part, executive branch officials are not absolutely immune from testifying despite the white house claim that officials are the judge also adding that presidents are not kings the white house vowing to appeal saying the ruling contradicts long-standing legal precedent. it is worth noting that mcgahn was a key witness into robert mueller's investigation into russian meddling, still it could have major implications for the ukraine investigation allowing democrats to try and get testimony from other top officials regarding the impeachment inquiry. officials including secretary of state mike pompeo, and former national security adviser, john bolton craig. >> kristen welker from the white house this morning, thank you. now, for a bigger look at the impeachment, neal katyal is a former acting solicitor general in the obama

hopefully show my kids one day. >> and you do, you mentioned your family. i mean, this really goes, tells your whole story, i mean, your ups and downs, and there was a period of time when you and your dad were not on speaking terms, and you really let people into that and how that all unfolded. >> yeah, i mean, honestly a lot of the things that my dad said, we haven't actually spoken about, and so when i heard his interview, it was, i mean, i cried. you know, you say things to each other, but you never really say them in the same way and just to see him crying was so emotional for me, and i'm so happy that he did it because it wouldn't be the same without him you know, he was my coach and he's the reason why i skied and my family sacrificed so much and it wouldn't be the same if they weren't in it. >> so talking about life after skiing, how have you felt, this isn't ancient history, by the way, this is earlier this year that you retired, but have you
8:24 am
been finding it, starting this time of year you normally would have been in training this time of year. >> it's weird to be in the month of november and not be skiing. to me when it starts to get cold, that's when i'm supposed to be racing, but i'm really enjoying being in new jersey >> you're engaged. >> i'm engaged, life with p.k. is amazing, and i feel like we have started a whole new chapter of my life, and hopefully his life together, and want to get married soon, and, you know, just kind of get things going as a married couple. >> so much to look forward to. i couldn't help but notice over here one of your costars in the documentary, lucy is here. and you know, it's actually so sweet, hi, lucy. she goes everywhere with you and i thought that was one of the most touching scenes in the documentary when you talk about why you got lucy and what she's meant to you because there you were traveling all over world, which can be a lonely life. >> that's why i got her is because i was so lonely on the
8:25 am
road, and, you know, she provided me with the love and support that i needed. you know, when you come home, and you have had a bad day, lucy doesn't care if i've won or lost, you know, and i think that's one of the best things about animals in general, and why i have three i'm not on the crazy dog lady, but i do need their emotional support. >> lucy, do you like being home? >> she likes being in front of the camera >> of course she sdchlt -- does. well, she's beautiful. >> get my closeup, please. >> we have her fancy collar on today. she's ready. she has been great, and you know, like i said, it's just an emotional ride and i hope that people enjoy the documentary i hope that it shows a side of me that they didn't know before, and hopefully they'll follow me in the journey that's coming next. >> it's really inspiring you always are i always say, never count out lindsey, it's always fun to see what you're up to. >> thank you. >> thank you so much the documentary, premiers tonight, "lindsey vonn the final season," on hbo. >> it's going to be great.

8:35 am
my favorite breeds this is london, a 2-year-old >> i had one of those once. >> one of the most beautiful koets -- coats it actually has a cottony feel to it. one of the great dispositions as well i'm finishing up, how about this one, this is a shetland sheep dog. this is dyson, dyson is only 2 years old but is in retirement because has already won best in breed, and is now going on full-time as a therapy dog at the ronald mcdonald house for the kids we'll have a full-time therapy dog career, and it just underscores the wonderful things dogs do in our lives, that we celebrate every year on thanksgiving day, the great family day of the year >> john, we love you, this is going to be a great show coming up after the parade. >> we're looking forward to it 30 million people will be watching >> no big deal for you. >> what does it take to be top dog? >> we have one of the top dogs there, one of the best of all breeds right there is going to be competing, so it's going to

8:40 am
two years ago was a huge success. this is called "the next level." it's super fun kevin hart, dwayne johnson, and jack black play different characters than they did in the movie two years ago, so they're definitely having a great time, and there's a lot of extra humor because of the new characters they play. >> also releasing the same day "bombshell," and there's already some oscar buzz. >> this is the movie that dramatizes some of the sexual harassment scandal that took place at fox news channel and the real story here is charlize theron playing megyn kelly, one of the most uncanny performances i have seen. she looks like megyn, sounds like megyn, definitely a front runner for the best actress oscar, along with renee zellweger. >> this is from our second company and it's called "cats. >> this is the wild card no one has seen this movie yet. >> you haven't seen it >> nobody has. >> it's directed by tom hooper who did the king's speech and

important message to a different battalion, and it's made to look like it's all in one continuous shot it is absolutely riveting, nothing short of spectacular, and one that a lot of people are going to be talking about throughout the awards season, and one that you should see on a big screen last but not least, one i'm looking forward to "just mercy" my favorite book from a few years ago, based on a real life true story. >> brian stevenson is the real-life guy's name michael b. jordan plays him here and he and brie larson are part of a legal team trying to exonerate a death row inmate played by jamie foxx, a powerful story with wonderful performances from top to bottom. jamie foxx is excellent. >> i would encourage people to read the book before they see the film dave, thank you. mr. roker. >> yes, sir, coming up next, we have chopping local, needing more money and jobs in the community, and that can only be a good thing there you go have to try that we're going to this morning bring main street to 49th street, with small businesses taking over our plaza and dylan
