we are back at 8:36 with a look at the beautiful rockefeller center christmas tree outside our plaza now that thanksgiving is done, the december holidays are just around the corner. monica mangin of east coast creative is here with tips and tricks on making your holiday decorations. we're talking christmas already right now. the first decision a lot of people make is whether to get a real or fake tree. >> there are benefits with each. the real tree, is obviously the nostalgia, dressed, cut down the tree, have a good time it smells amazing and you have more variety with the shapes and sizes, a chubby tree, short tree, versus going to the store. artificial, a couple benefits there too, way less mess, easier to set up, long-term cost
8:38 am
savings but you are giving up the nostalgia of cutting it down, unless you find going to the attic nostalgic. >> you have to spray the aroma in the room. >> i use a couple of each in my house. i love christmas, i'm excited to show you a ton of ideas i have come up with this year. >> why one tree when you can have three first this is sort of the traditional, the classic, family friendly tree. >> family friendly, has kind of an eclectic grouping of ornaments, a lot that your kids made from preschool through. the way you can make this feel less chaotic is by going big, embrace it we added really large oversized ornaments and strung on oversized bulbs, string lights a vintage feel, it will embrace the whimsy. >> it kind of brings your kids into the experience in a different way. >> each year, do a hand print of your kids, it's a full keepsake over the years. >> let's talk about the modern tree if we can
8:39 am
i want to talk about these too. >> they're beautiful really nice. >> so this is a flock tree flock trees are the ones that look like they have artificial snow they have become really popular the last couple of years, and what we did for this is give it a modern vibe of all diy ornaments. see the black ones there. >> is this one you did yourself. >> this is bathroom tile that we picked up at the hardware store. anything can become an ornament if you try hard enough you want to put that on. >> this is nice. >> that's marble tile, and the copper ones are copper pipe fittings that we added a little twine to and mix with white balls, it's a really pretty tree. >> and different decorations around the house, i want to talk about the fashion inspired one you sort of matched your tree on this day cutting down, dress like it.
8:40 am
>> i am dressed like it, we took a nod from the closet for the tree and went with the buffalo check ribbon, a great garland option, inexpensive, easy to put on one of my favorite things are the wood sliced ornaments, if you have a fresh tree, you can actually cut a few off. >> right >> if you don't want to do that, go to the craft store, they are $5 add paint, sharpie pen you can personalize them you could put your names, words that you love. i'm excited to see what comes out of this. >> i'm putting my daughter's name. >> don't tell. there's two daughters but we only have space for one. they're both favorites careful now. >> we can add string, place it right there. >> this is great i like all three of these, this is a good option. >> we have tons of options on today.com. these are three, we have seven of them for you. >> everybody is getting started.
