it's really bad in parts of the east bay, the tri-valley as well as parts of the peninsula. now, as we take a live look outside in walnut creek, you can see the clouds in the distance there, and there will be some spots where it just suddenly clears up and then you'll run back into that fog on your way to work. we're going to see temperatures in the mid 40s and then as that fog clears out around 8 to 9:00, we'll get some sunshine today as we take a break from the rain. there is another storm system out there that's moving a little bit closer so we'll talk about the impact that will have on our weather as we go through the week. mike, you were just saying three letters, f-o-g. >> that's right. i was mistaken, the corner of that building i think is from our emeryville camera. we have backups in the last five minutes. the cash lanes are backing up on both sides at the bay bridge. this foggy area, really dense fog in patches around the bay

and a disabled vehicle going eastbound at highway 4, eastbound 80. there's a disabled vehicle in your fast lane where visibility is low and that vehicle reportedly doesn't have any flashing lights. that's one of the areas to be careful. be careful all over the bay. it looks like south of the dunbar bridge you are okay. earlier this morning in fremont i did catch patches of dense fog as well. over here, there may be a new crash near the cutover and i'll check on that. back to you. this morning on capitol hill that's wherer and against impea present their case to the judiciary committee. members of the intelligence committee will break down their findings from the evidence provided byen a dozen witnesses. we'll have a live report from washington in our 5:00 hour. at 5:45 our scott mcgrew will have much more insight on this morning's hearings and what we can expect. as soon as they start you can watch it right here on nbc bay

area. we'll have a special report with lester holt at 6:00. bart is cracking down on fare jumpers through a string of early morning sweeps on trains and they've been doing it under the radar. >> we're live in fremont. i know fathre evaders cost the agency millions of dollars each year. >> reporter: bart estimates as much as $25 million a year. it's common enough to our own cameras were able to capture it as you can see on this video on your tv screen. bart tells me that since september the transitors andbeen asking riders to show proof of payment. those who haven'teen bected. the transit agency says that during each sweep between 75 and 100 riders have gotten the boot. i asked if they will be conducting sweeps at other

stock market futures are pointing to a slightly lower opening on wall street this morning following a mixed week last week. the nasdaq posted their second negative week in three while the s&p managed to eek out a weekly gain. we're going to get quarterly results from toll brothers, chewy and stitch fix among others. amazon jeff bezos is saying this weekend people should be supportive of a strong national defense and that the u.s. would be in big trouble if big tech turned its back on the pentagon. tech giants including amazon face increased criticism over their lucrative defense contracts. bezos is insisting they are the good guys. and disney is just a breath away from hauling in an industry record $11$10 billion from the global box office, smashing its record set in 2016. the studio's 2019 haul sits at around $9.9 billion driven most recently by "frozen ii" and ahead of the much anticipated

spots that you might not expect, so make sure you stick around. mike and carrie are coming up. this latest round of rain inundated san francisco and people are still feeling the effects. flooding was a bigi issue but some people say the debris in their homes came from sewage that backed up into their homes. not just homes and properties, the public works department said some of it flowed into the ocean. we're following the developments and will have a live report at 5:00. not the way you want to spend the weekend. >> no. but we know the microclimate, san francisco got in san jose it was patchy nuisance rain. >> that's usually the case. we see the rain shadow happen in san jose, some of our valleys, while coastal areas and some of the hills get the brunt of that storm. as we take a look, we have the remnants of all of that moisture

that was left from those past storms giving us some high humidity this morning once those temperatures cool down. we make it to the dew point and it starts to condense into fog. we're seeing thick patches of it right now, especially in the tri-valley where at times visibility is almost down to zero. in dublin we're going to also have some cool temperatures in the mid 40s as you head out the door and then we go from the into the rest of the day. there will be another storm system approaching. we can she swirls oflo this stot weaker and we are going to see some scattered showers. once the fog clears out today, we'll see some sunshine, more fog against tomorrow morning. then as we head late on tuesday into the evening commute we'll see some of that rain moving into ukiah, towards santa rosa later. by early wednesday morning we'll see spotty showers put itbut ity

his or miss. we may see some areas along the coast getting more rain, mostly about a quarter or less. as we go hour by hour for today, we're only going to see our temperatures in the upper 50s and low 60s but that's normal for this time incooling off qui. as we're starting out this morning you're getting ready for the day, you don't need the umbrella but make sure you have a nice, warm jacket today as our temperatures stay in the upper 50s and low 60s. that storm coming in mid-week will be a weak one but then we'll see showers possible going into the weekend, especially on friday and saturday. then it does look to clear up on sunday which of course as we know will be that big last home game for the raiders. we'll see those temperatures in the upper 50s and low 60s all week and morning temperatures

mostly in the 40s. heading over to mike, you've been watching those reports of fog. >> yeah, the chp reports have been continuing to update with issues for fog across the bridges. here's the richmond bridge, not a lot of traffic but there's a lot of fog in the area and across a span further south. we showed you the bay bridge toll plaza. waiting for the cash lanes to open, there's still closed. the issue is the visibility there. east shore freeway, look at the map. anywhere you see this orange color, that's where you'll have trouble seeing in patches. around the north bay, watch out coming through the robin williams tunnel and on the golden gate bridge from time to time. our current view from the golden gate bridge camera is fine. further over here, it doesn't look like a major problem but our cameras on 580 show a good amount of low clouds so concern

for the tri-valley as well.680,. over here, that crash at 680 is northbound at mission and it is blocking one lane for the time being until they can clear that. it should be out of the foggiest areas but still watch for patches and be careful. san mateo bridge shows more fog than the dunbar bridge and we happen to have a camera there. we can see traffic moving smoothly. >> thank you, mike. a man accused in a deadly stabbing of a good samaritan is due back in court this week. he'll appear before a judge thursday but he did not enter a plea. his public defender requested the hearing be delayed until wednesday. police say he stabbed oliver williams at bart's heyward station. they say williams was trying to stop brim from stealing a passenger's shoes.

new this morning, california's historic wildfires are costing the state billions in overtime. according to the "l.a. times," firefighters' costs have surged 65% over the past decade and has forced the state to shell out nearly $5 billion and nearly 1,000 firefighters made more than $100,000 in overtime alone last year. experts say that it's cheaper to pay the money rather than hire more firefighters due to the high cost of training. to decision 2020 now and the presidential race, democratic front-runner joe biden is headed to the bay area for a whirlwind private fundraiser. he's scheduled to fly in on thursday. the first stop will be palo alto and from there heads to san francisco for an early evening reception followed by an evening event in south san francisco. tickets to all of those events raining fr range from $1,000 to $2800. the embattled southern

california representative duncan u hunter is planning to resign after the holidays for illegally using campaign money for personal expenses. he is scheduled to be sentenced in march. how about trading in that clunker for an electric vehicle. a new grant program is helping low income bay area drivers switch out of their old cars for a plug-in vehicle. the bay area air quality management district is offering grants of up to 9500 bucks towards the price of an electric vehicle. to qualify a family has to make less than $58,000 a year. the funding comes from $10 million in payments from the volkswagen emissions scandal. the 49ers pumped after what a lot of folks are calling the game of the year. next on "today in the bay," what's next for the 49ers after yesterday's heart stopping win. plus a logistics scare, the

missed the game of the year. it had a season's worth of big plays including a huge catch by george kittle with less than a minute left. that set up the game-winning field goal as time ran out. there it is. the 9ers' 48-46 win launched them over the saints in the playoff race. the 9ers later solidified the top seed when seattle lost to the rams on sunday night football. they will host atlanta next sunday and host the rams at levi stadium on december 21st in a game you can watch right here. after a logistics scare, the kansas city chiefs wound up being properly equipped just in time for their showdown with the patriots. somewhere along the way someone mistakenly rerouted the chiefs' equipment to the new jersey stadium instead of gillette stadium. however, the missing gear arrived a couple of hours before kickoff and the chiefs avoided that dreaded forfeit.
