sister after they vanished from their own yard >> new orleans saints quarterback drew brees did something not even joe manning, joe montana and tom brady can claim to have accomplished >> do you feel the need for speed? we have the hottest trailers streaming right now, the new top gun maverick let's go above the tower "early today" starts right now >> good to be with you this morning. i'm frances rivera >> and i'm phillip mena. we're following a monster of a storm threatening millions of americans. police in indiana say a mother and son were killed in a snowy crash. their car lost control and spun into the path of a truck this brings the number of deaths linked to dangerous road conditions to 11 while freezing rain is headed for the east coast, the deep south is being battered by tornadoes. multiple twisters confirmed across the south have killed at least three people for more on this wild stretch of hazardous weather, here's nbc's ban scheneman.

>> reporter: twisters in the deep south, one touched down in central louisiana. the school in the path of the storm system reduced to rubble no one was hurt, but the damage is everywhere. mangled metal, roofs ripped off of buildings while in alabama, a suspected tornado claimed lives. >> we have two fatalities confirmed. >> two confirmed fatalities. >> and at least four or five injured. >> reporter: reports of another possible tornado touching down in mississippi trees uprooted, a neighborhood in ruins millions of other americans facing a blast of winter drivers struggle through the snow in missouri and much of the midwest. while the northeast is expected to get hit with a winter storm, a storm welcome by some. >> i don't like the heat i like the cold. >> reporter: and there is plenty of that cold in the forecast dan scheneman, nbc news. >> all right so he says plenty of cold left how much is plenty here's nbc's meteorologist janessa webb tracking the storm.

good morning, janessa. >> good morning. it continues to wreak havoc across the south with over 37 tornadoes in the last 24 hours the squall line continues to brew, but really starting to let up on the northern side of the system, you can see the pink, that's freezing rain, a little bit of gropple in pittsburgh and new york city, on top that of snow cleveland to buffalo. that's where you'll see the significant snowfall in the next 24 hours accumulation up to 6 to 8 inches new york city, pittsburgh, central pennsylvania, you're not seeing that much snow, but the ice accumulation is going to be a very detrimental and treacherous this morning as people are venturing out for their early morning commute. make sure you're taking it slow. >> wise words. thank you, janessa all right, another setback for boeing this morning. the aircraft maker has announced it is temporarily shutting down production of the troubled

737-max. the plane has been grounded worldwide since march after two crashes killed over 346 people company has since worked steadily on multiple software fixes for the plane as well as building new models while awaiting recertification by the faa. boeing safely returning the 737-max to service is our top priority the company says the production halt will not affect jobs as it isn't planning to layoff or furlough employees >> police in new york are searching for a third teen in connection with the death of tessa majors they are scouring the streets and searching stores along 125th street meanwhile the family is blasting controversial comments from a police union official. nbc' ron allen has more. >> reporter: at the memorial grows for barnard student tessa majors, they are igniting outrage. >> what i'm understanding, she was in the park to buy marijuana. >> reporter: majors' family

calling the comments deeply inappropriate and irresponsible public speculation investigators tell nbc news they have yet to determine whether a marijuana sale had any role in the murder the sergeant later apologized to majors' family >> my heart breaks for you >> reporter: intense emotion as new details emerge about what police call a robbery gone wrong. and the 13-year-old suspect facing murder, robbery and weapons charges. nbc news is not naming him because he's a juvenile. according to court documents, the boy told a detective he saw two of his friends stabbing majors as feathers flew out of her jacket and that she bit one attacker's finger the suspect's attorney says there's no allegation he touched the victim or took anything from her. near the crime scene, community activists have been demanding better lighting and more police in city parks. >> if the police or community patrol, what have you, had been in this park, tessa would not be dead >> reporter: law enforcement sources say the search is underway for another teenager wanted for questioning as that 13-year-old suspect

heads back to court, later today. frances? >> all right, ron, thank you >> a new jersey community continues to mourn the loss of a detective. 13-year veteran of the force joseph seals was shot and killed last week by two suspects who police believe targeted a kosher grocery store. family and friends gathered yesterday for an emotional wake for the father of five and a funeral is planned for this morning. police departments from across hudson county have their offer certificates patrolling jersey city they want to give all the officers from that district a chance to attend detective seals' funeral >> within the next 36 hours, president trump could well become the third commander in chief to be impeached in history. the house committee will finalize the resolution and tomorrow the full house will vote on two articles of impeachment. abuse of power and obstruction of congress. if the articles are approved, the president will face an impeachment trial in the senate early next year. nbc's tracie potts joins us from

d.c. with the latest tracie, what can we expect from today's hearing? >> reporter: it's not a hearing per se it's a meeting of the rules committee where they talk about what tomorrow is going to look like, how long the debate may last, which actually could bump this vote into thursday. but the plan for now is debate and a vote, a final vote on impeachment tomorrow now, of course, this is all based on those two articles of abuse of power and obstruction of congress related to how president trump was dealing with ukraine pushing them to investigate his rival joe biden, and trying to freeze their aid from the united states in the middle of all that the president's personal attorney rudy giuliani was a key figure in this relationship with ukraine. and giuliani now tells "the new york times" and fox that he was actually behind getting rid of the ambassador to ukraine. >> this hit piece -- and it's a
