"today in the bay's" kari hall is actually tracking when that rain returns in the forecast, as many catch their flights. we want to thank you for starting your morning with us. it's a situation going on there. >> looks very nice and clear but i know a lot of folks are worried about the possibility of flight delays. >> i'm marcus washington. >> kris sanchez. nice to be here. >> what day is this? >> it is friday. >> it's friday. >> can't you tell? >> just in case you didn't know. >> right, so we're waking up getting ready for the day and having to deal with this in the north bay, some dense fog as we

take a look at our san rafael camera, but elsewhere, we are seeing some mostly clear visibility. our next storm approaching for the weekend, we'll be tracking that with rain set in move in late tomorrow night. i'll have more on the time line. vianey, how is it looking? >> we have one crash that's sort of starting to cause delays but thankfully it looks like this will be cleared out soon along southbound 101 at great america parkway. the number three lane is blocked. you can see a little bit of that yellow near the crash. good thing that it's only 4:30 in the morning. as soon as they clear that out we should be good to go. a quick check of your east bay drive times because 880 and 680 tend to get busy. it's friday but we're headed into a holiday weekend. southbound 880 from 238 to highway 84 only about nine minutes.

i'll have another update coming up shortly. >> thanks, vianey. breaking news in the south bay for you. san jose police are at the scene of a shooting that happened about two hours ago. >> "today in the bay's" roz plater just arrived on scene and roz, what can you tell us at÷81 this point? >> reporter: we are in a residential neighborhood not far from berryessa and mattahorn. a lot of police on the scene. the last five minutes or so they have operating out twoy but two officers knocking on doors presumably waking people up to canvas them what they know about what's going on. we still don't have a lot of information, so let's show you what we know so far. this appears to all have started sometime around 2:30 this morning. san jose police officers have been on the scene here looking for clues and collecting evidence. now we spotted multiple evidence markers on the ground. they can be seen examining what appears to be shell casings and an ambulance was seen pulling away from the scene earlier and

we've confirmed this morning that one person was shot and police continue to have several of the feeder streets around this area shut down. but again, we do not have a lot more information about what has happened. we have reached out to san jose police for more information and as soon as we get more details we'll bring those to you. for now we are live in san jose, i'm roz plater for "today in the bay." >> thank you very much, roz. it is 4:33 now. also new overnight, deputies are investigating another shooting also in san jose. this one happened during a fight that involved at least six people on the key road near white road. officers were called to the scene around midnight. they say one person was shot in the leg, another was struck in the head with a blunt object and does have serious injuries. police are still trying to piece together what happened and have not made any arrests. a follow-up to city leaders unanimously voted to extend an emergency ordinance when it comes to short-term rentals on airbnb, requiring homeowners to

live on the property when renting their home and if there are two homes on the lot, the host must stay in the larger, and rent out the other. councilmembers first approved it as an emergency ordinance last month and it will now be extended at least until next november. of course, it was all prompted by that halloween shooting where five people died at an airbnb. two people are currently facing charges tied to the investigation. grief counsellors will be on hand today at a north bay private school, where a student died on campus yesterday. it happened after some kind of accident on the playground at mark day school in san rafael kindergarten through eight school. all the school is saying is staff members immediately called 911 when the accident happened and the unidentified student did not survive. new developments inside the courtroom in the long legal battle over the future of cupertino's vallco shopping mall. plans are in the works to transform the mall into a housing, office and retail space

good morning to you. looking live out our window over walnut creek. you see some clouds there in the distance, building momentum i think. we're going to see some rain soon kari says but i keep covering my ears. it's not really. we need the rain. >> we do need the rain, and you know what? this is actually going to be pretty good timing, considering what we've had the past few weekends with the rain moving through. actually it looks like this rain overnight hours on saturday. and then likely clear out by sunday afternoon. here is a look live in san francisco. i love this shot. you can see the very top of the trance america pyramid, and fog rolling by. it's beautiful. we're also seeing some clear visibility as we head inland to the tri-valley. a live look in dublin as people

head out the door and get ready for this friday morning, we're going to see temperatures in the .oing to see temperatures in the it will be a cool start but then starting to warm up as we go into late morning into the afternoon. storm ranger our mobile doppler radar is all clear right now, but it will be tracking this next storm system moving in, showing a lot of clouds. this will be an atmospheric river for the pacific northwest. by the time it gets to the bay area, it's going to lose a lot of its punch, so we'll take a look at that in just a bit. as we check out our high temperatures for today, get out and enjoy it. we're going to see high temperatures well above normal, reaching into the mid to upper 60s, even up to 66 degrees in the south county. walnut creek up to 62 degrees. 63 in hayward, and for half moon bay we're looking at upper 50s there.qei$z 62 in palo alto. san francisco up to ñn=9 in the mission district and the north bay reaching 61af[ in santa ros. as we look hour by hour, so we're expecting they:ç8y rain wú in late tomorrow evening.

here we are at 5:30, and it's just starting to edge its way into ukiah. as it moves into the rest of the bay area it's 4:00 in the morning as it moves into the peninsula, and then quickly sunday afternoon and we'relvq/u looking at about a quarter to possibly up to a half inch of rain for much of the bayà a little bit higher farther to the north and in terms of sierra snow, going there, five to seven inches for the higher elevations. going into next week, we're going to see some more rain returning on christmas eve into christmas day. vianey, you're tracking the roads. how is it looking? >> we had a couple of fender benders but those cleared up and i have an update on the crash i was talking about earlier, this one in san jose, southbound 101 at great america parkways that now cleared and no longer on there. the delays are nonexistent, which is great news. that's what we like to see early on. westbound 80 toward the bay bridge you're looking at eight minutes. westbound 82 toward the san mateo bridge 12 minutes, and

then a quick check of the tri-valley drive times as well, westbound 580 from grant line road to 068 only 20 minutes. as you head outside as well, your east bay drive times southbound 680 from 580 to vargas road a fender bender is cleared out and looking at ten minutes. friday light. i'll send it back to you. >> thank you, vianey. the next story has some people asking the question are palo alto police officers too quick to use force in some residents tell our investigative team the answer is yes. >> and as senior investigator stephen stock found out the police department may be violating state law when it comes to transparency in the use of force cases. >> reporter: we began digging into questions surrounding palo alto's use of force methods, after one resident videotaped officers dragging him from his mobile home and slamming his head into a car's windshield over a suspended driver's license. now it's this surveillance video outside a doughnut shop in palo

alto that's raising more questions about the department's use of force. after resident julio araballo was taken down, he woke up chained to a hospital bed. these pictures show the damage his neck in a brace, right eye swollen shut, a fractured bone in his face. >> the doctor comes and tells me stay still, you've been assaulted. >> though the officer in the police report says he thought he saw a drug deal taking place, the video shows no apparent drug deal and officers were never able to find drugs. no charges were ever formally brought against julio araballo. it's not the first time the same officer has been accused of question of force. tonight we'll dig into his history and talk to a lawmaker with a new state law with public transparency that palo alto's police department may now be violating. see you tonight at 11:00. >> you can always reach out to our investigative unit if you have a tip for them,

behavior from administratoadmin. this week the school agreed to a settlement with one former student and the school's leadership recently apologized for the school's long history of accusations. our investigative unit has extensively looked at the accusations at presentation high school. you can find their stories on nbcbayarea.com. immigration advocates are asking the attorney general's office to sue to stop new for-profit prisons in california. they say federal authorities are working to enter into contracts with companies days before a new bill becomes law. starting january 1st, the department of corrections will not be able to enter into contracts with private prisons. private immigration detention facilities will be banned in 2028. the attorney general's office is not commenting on that request. california's attorney general is fighting efforts to make place misconduct records public. advocates are arguing for their release, citing the new transparency law that took effect this year but the

the mother of heidi broussard tells nbc news her daughter was found dead inside the truck of a car this morning after authorities discovered the baby last night at a houston home, in good condition. police are not confirming the latest news of the woman's death. broussard and her infant had been missing for more than a week.
