some patches of fog. it is clear right here in fremont, and that's something we'll be watching as you head out for work this morning. we're in the low 40s and it is a chilly start to the day, we're also seeing some 30s in parts of the north bay, a slow warm-up on the way as we go into the afternoon, with some 50s in the forecast, and of course, there will be some more rain, but if you're traveling down l.a., a lot of heavy rain so we'll talk more about that and what's ahead for the rest of the week. mike, you were saying the chp issued a fog advisory. >> they did, kari. this is our camera in dublin. we usually look way down the road toward el charo or the dublin grade. this is west 580, sparsely populated. it's safe to drive the limit. on the deck you can probably see pretty well, low clouds hovering above. chp issues a fog advisory over there in the corridor for 680 around the alamo, diablo area. keep that in mind with pockets of fog registering up in the north bay, just pockets. kari showed you other beautiful

views. i'll talk about the crash off the east shore freeway. for now back to the top story. >> breaking news out of contra costa county. a robber is dead after being shot and killed by a store clerk. i need to warn you, some of the exclusive video obtained overnight you may find disturbing. here it is, the video showing the robber entering cam's market on port chicago my way in bay point late last night. in the video the robber eventually comes up, watch him, so sad, pistol whips the store clerk. >> ow [ bleep ] [ bleep ] >> but he happens to be an air force veteran. at one point the vet fired a shot at robber. the suspect ran away, later died outside the store. owner. now a second suspect ran out of the store, he is still on the run. thom jensen is at the scene gathering the latest information on that hunt. he'll bring us a live report in our next half hour. >> oh my gosh. >> quite dramatic video there. continuing coverage, still

no arrest in the stabbing death beathard's younger brother. >> 22-year-old clayton beathard has killed after a fight outsidy a nashville bar saturday morning. ó started over a a friend of beathard has also killed. another person was injured but is expected to be okay. in the locker room after saturday's home game, niners coach kyle shanahan talked about the loss. c.j. beathard wasn't there, he's with his family but coach shanahan says he did meet with him. >> he barely so talk and the last thing he said to me when i walked out the door, he stopped me and goes "you make sure the guys win this game" and i didn't want to say that at the beginning because this game doesn't mean anything compared to his brother. >> and when they did, nashville police are looking for three men and one woman seen in this surveillance video, looking for them for questioning. members of congress are back home for their holiday beak but the battle over impeachment rages on this morning. a senate trial won't begin until the new year but both sides are already making their arguments. the gop wants a fast impeachment trial. speaker nancy pelosi and her party want an impeachment trial with witnesses including key current and former white house officials. >> i think the president wants to prove his innocence. to make sure that there is an objective trial in the senate as there's supposed to be. >> still ahead on live report from washington with more about the new revelations about one of the witnesses democrats want to call. now to a holiday shopping nightmare. police say two men shoved a woman to the0y+!q ground and dr her across the parking lot while trying to steal her purse. it happened about 11:00 in the morning yesterday at the walmart on aubray street in fremont. police say the attackers got away with the purse and took off

in a black bmw. the woman was scraped up but not badly hurt. and happening today, sonoma county supervisors are set to tackle the issue of a growing homeless camp. the encampment along highway 12 in west santa rosa is growing controversial. more than 200 people are living there. supervisors could approve a plan to spend $12 million on potential solutions but even the fastest fixes are months away. community leaders are calling it a public health emergency. today marks an important decision regarding the future of the oakland coliseum. alameda county board of supervisors is set to vote on approving a deal to sell its half interest in the coliseum complex to the oakland athletics. ment the city owns the other half. the move gives the a's a fallback petition if the proposed stadium on howard terminal falls through. supervisor nate miley says it's the best option for the city of oakland. >> the city lost two

professional sports teams so i think it would be in the public interest and public good to secure one team to remain in the city. i think this is going to be a win/win for everyone. >> supervisor miley predicts the proposal will pass. the a's have six months to review the purchase before the sale is finalized. speaking of, as the raiders gear up to move to las vegas next season fans are saying they won't be able to see their team play. they say they're priced out. season tickets at the new allegiant stadium cost between $650 to $3,000, according to the "las vegas review journal." as of october, 96% of the tickets had already been sold. many long time raiders fans say those costas long with travel expenses mean they won't be going to many games. we're talking about travel troubles. still ahead on "today in the bay," the conditions you can expect if you're headed to tahoe for the holiday week ahead. plus, do you still have gifts to buy? you're late, but not out of luck

modest will i higher this morning in a pre-holiday trading. markets are coming off another positive week. the dow and nasdaq both up for the second straight week. the s&p 500 for its fourth street. the s&p on pace for its best december also since 2010. on today's watch list a report on new home sales. as you head out on the roads to friends and family this week you may be paying a little less to get there. the average price of gas dipped four cents over the past two weeks to $2.61 a gallon. that is 18 cents higher than a year ago, and the bay area gas is much higher, averaging $3.68 a gallon. analysts say prices are unlikely to continue trodropping as retailers around the country face higher costs. if you still have a few more gifts to buy you have a few more options left. 13% of americans were to buy saturday but more than 6% are waiting until christmas eve, catering to the procrastinators stores and malls are opening tomorrow and many will closely

are you coming and going this holiday week? maybe your travels will take you through sfo, a live look there this morning as there were numerous delays over the week d weekend. you want to check ahead. we'll have the full forecast, carl the fog is hanging out there this morning. if you're headed up to tahoe, looks like you're going to have some company. this is i-80 in the sierra. traffic was bumper to bumper as people headed up to the tahoe area for the holiday. chp says chains are required in some areas, but people aren't letting a little traffic get in the way of a good time. >> how fortunate are we to have that kind of snow right in time for the christmas holiday? >> i skied for like three hours

yesterday here. >> folks at donner ski ranch say there's plenty of snow for everyone and get up there early to have a fun-filled day. >> i was staying so optimistic that my microphone caught the tail end of that. good way to look at a traffic jam. >> and she was up there. >> not in it. looking for the windows of opportunity as well. >> right, today, toment rtomorr time to head to the sierra. doesn't look like a big one. it's nice to get additional light snow. here is a look at what we're feeling almost cold enough to snow in santa rosa right now. it's just one degree above freezing, and 34 in napa. it is 40 in oakland, a chilly start to the day, half moon bay at 39 degrees, and if you're about to head out the door, headed to the fruitvale b.a.r.t. station expect temperatures in the lower 40s for the start of the day, and then it will slowly warm up, but we're staying dry for most of the morning into the

afternoon as well for much of the day tomorrow. if you're traveling down to l.a. expect some of the light snow showers from parts of the central sierra to southern california as we are seeing the system that will not affect the bay area still moving through. that was the rain that we had for yesterday, and the rain that we'll see will be coming in late christmas eve into christmas day, and as that approaches, we'll bring in some more light to moderate showers. as far as travel across the country, we are seeing some rain across parts of the southeast. we'll see some of that rain moving off the coast of north carolina and south carolina for us. we have this new storm system that will be coming in. so as we time it out, we'll see still some cloudy skies today at times. tomorrow more cloud cover as that rain approaches from the north, and then as we go into christmas eve into christmas day, cool temperatures that could cause some snow on mt. hamilton, some of the bay area peaks above 3,000 feet and it quickly moves off toward the east as we head into christmas

day, but once again not a significant storm here, just another round of some scattered showers. we're looking at rainfall totals anywhere from about a quarter of an inch close to a half inch of rain for parts of the coast and into the santa cruz mountains, and as far as sierra snow another one to five inches of snow, but just enough to make those roads slick, if you will be traveling starting late christmas eve into christmas day. our temperature also stay cool throughout the week. our high temperatures in the mid-50s, morning temperatures each day dropping back into the 30s, and we will have a chance to dry out, after christmas day, we'll have a nice clear weekend, and even going through the new year it looks like we'll continue on with some dry weather. mike, you were checking out the bay bridge, how is it looking for us? >> kari, folks are think being this being a vacation week for a lot of folks. we still have folks who have to put in the hours. we have to support each other. we're looking at the bay bridge, probably a little bit shorter lived commute this morning, but we will see that packing in today.

tomorrow, christmas eve you may see one last burst but of course holiday on wednesday will mean lighter traffic then. it will probably be a shorter traffic flow that shows a typical pattern at the bay bridge but i see a few cash payers over there. note this area here the diablo alamo the earlier fog advisory issued by the chp. watch parts in the north bay as well. a crash in san pablo is on the off ramp not affecting the freeway for westbound 80 at speed and waze times it out from our partners, concord we see a blip for 242 toward the bay bridge where we showed you that mild backup for the cash lanes that takes about half an hour. if you wait until 5:00 it's 45 minutes. until 6:00 it's over an hour. time your commute accordingly. they tried to adjust for the time of the year as well, talk about a little bit lighter shorter-lived commute. 18 minutes out of brentwood and byron toward 580, a clear drive. there may be patches of fog we showed you the dublin camera with low clouds there.

everything is looking good, peninsula and the south bay. there was an earlier crash northbound 101 around capitol but it cleared off the shoulder and i believe cleared from the off-ramp. a quick look over here, a clear view across the san mateo bridge. kira, back to you. >> mike, thanks. now to decision 2020 and the presidential race. president trump is gaining support among a certain demographic, millionaires. the latest q4 cnbc survey shows 36% of millionaires support the president, that's up from 32% in may, in comparison, joe biden came in with just 14% of potential millionaire votes. senator elizabeth warren was a distant third with 8%. millionaires cited the economy as the main reason they support trump. more than 60% polled say they see bernie sanders and elizabeth warren has bad for the economy. this morning the coast guard is under scrutiny for exempti i boats from safety rules "the

conception" the diving boat 34 people were killed before labor day. some of the victims were from the bay area. u.s. coast guard records show eight diving boats in the state were given exemptions from the 1996 safety standards rule which means they didn't need to add bigger escape hatches and advance fire prevention systems. no word from the coast guard as to why. federal investigators are still looking into the dive boat fire. new video shows a troubling sight this holiday season. you can see there a fedex delivery truck full of packages on fire, just days after christmas. this happened over the weekend in fullerton, south of los angeles. the fedex driver picked up his shipment and was headed to san diego when he noticed the truck on fire. the driver wasn't hurt but many packages and gifts you saw there were destroyed. no word on what sparked that fire. new this morning, the u.s.

department of housing and urban development released its report on homelessness and found homelessness in the u.s. increased nearly 3%. one of the biggest reasons why is california. the study found that more than 21,000 people in california became homeless this year. that's a 16% increase from last year. better numbers were seen across the nation, 29 states, in fact, saw a decrease in their homeless population. >> 4:52 right now. çpq
