"today in the bay" continues right now. merry christmas to you and thanks so much for joining us this morning. i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm kira klapper in for marcus washington. kari hall has some special video to show us. a christmas gift for weather interested folks. >> rain and hail, this falling near the golden gate bridge, and in parts of the north bay, near marin. this is some heavy hail that fell at about 2:00 to 3:00 this morning. it was so much hail that it coated the roadways and chp

issued advisories, and saying that people were sliding off of the roads, and then we also had some lightning that went along with that, and now things have since started to clear out, but there is still some flooding on highway 101 near lucky drive. so still some heavy rain moving through parts of the east bay and south bay right now, as we get a closer look at storm ranger, our mobile doppler radar, giving us the most current information as that heavy rain moves just north of san ramon, south of concord and extending toward antioch, we'll see the waves of rain mostly this morning, starting to taper off, going into late this morning, into the afternoon. getting out there on the roads i wanted to show you this, some breaking news, we do also now have a traffic alert, so we have a deadly crash on westbound i-80, at the gilman street exit and so we do have the road closed in this area, as we've seen this traffic alert that may cause some major issues, getting

around that. use the waze app and join our nbc bay area team, so that you can give us some information on what's happening in that area, but a big heads up if you're heading out for work on this christmas morning. another update coming up in a few minutes. >> something we never want to see but's especially christmas morning. >> there have been some tough stories. breaking overnight not the story we'd l we'd like to bring you on christmas. >> roz plater is live at the scene with more on the 6-year-old's condition. hi, roz. >> reporter: good morning. we are in the neighborhood where this happened, homes near the intersection of ohio wean mariposa streets, about a block or so down the street from a burger king, where police say the shooting happened. now here is what we know. police say that young boy was out in the street with his family last night, celebrating christmas eve. right around 6:30 last night is when the shots rang out, bullets were flying, multiple bullets.

the 6-year-old was struck in the torso. we don't know how many times he was hit. when officers arrived, they discovered the child had already been rushed to the hospital in a car. what we don't know is how or why this shooting happened, how it got started or who the suspected shooter is. that is all part of what police are still investigating this morning. what we do know is that officers towed away a motorbike, we're told that is part of that investigation. now, sadly, the latest information we have from police is that that young boy is in critical condition. of course if you have any information about any of this, vallejo police want to hear from you. for now we are live in vallejo, i'm roz plater for "today in the bay." >> roz, thanks for that. 6:03. breaking news in san francisco, police are looking for a person who shot two people overnight in the tenderloin. police say one person died at the scene while another was rushed to the hospital.

now to a follow-up in the south bay, the community is coming together to help a san jose church after a man and woman stole thousands of dollars from a donation box that was meant for toys. two unnamed donors are chipping in $1,000 apiece for the lady of guadalupe church and another person is donating $4,000 to the church's go fund me page. all of the money is set to help out the church and give those items to children in need. this comes after $3,000 was stolen from this donation box saturday night. father robert brocado, listen to the sound bite. it's great. >> oh my gosh, $4,000? >> reporter: so $5,000 already. >> that's incredible. that's just amazing. wow. see, that's just -- that's christmas. >> just that pure joy, surprise from him there. church members still hope the thieves give back the money they stole. >> 6:04. christmas morning and continuing coverage now in

pg&e's bankruptcy. a group of wall street pg&e bond holders are trying to take over the utility is telling governor newsom it can meet his demands. "the chronicle" is reporting the group says it will consult with newsom on creating a new board of directors and give the state the power to buy pg&e if it's responsible for another wildfire. there's no response from the governor on that offer. just last week a judge approved pg&e's $13 billion settlement with fire victims as part of its bankruptcy exit plan. governor newsom supports the settlement but continues to demand a better restructuring plan. payday will be a little better for some bay area workers because of a new minimum wage set at $15 an hour. local cities that get a pay boost include belmont, menlo park and south san francisco. the number of cities with at least a $15 minimum wage is expected to double in 2020. from grocery bag give-aways so shopping sprees for kids, a

san jose church is ending its season of generosity and spirit with glide foundation is serving free christmas meals today. breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m. followed by a christmas celebration at 10:00 and a lunch at 11:00. if you're headed to tahoe for the holiday, be prepared. a live look right now, you can see pretty quiet out there but this is 80 at dutch flat, roads are icy out there, it's cold. a lot of snow on the sides. good news for anyone looking to hit the slopes but definitely adds some time if you want to make it up to tahoe. it's always good advice to pack the chains as the storms are moving through the area. nice winter wonderland for the folks in the tahoe area. >> hopefully they don't have to drive there this morning, there is light snow coming down that we're going to see this storm system coming through this morning bringing in more snow going into the rest of the next few hours but then clearing out later today storm ranger with

heavy rain moving through parts of the bay area, from oakland toward the east bay, we're seeing some waves of heavy rain and union city and fremont and as we head out this morning, we're going to see most of that rain falling over the next couple of hours, and then clearing out for the rest of the day. i should say drying out because we won't see much in the way of clear skies. a lot of clouds lingering into the early afternoon. we have a new traffic alert i wanted to get to that quickly because we have some breaking news on westbound i-80 at the gilman street exit. we had a fatal crash there, and so we are having a problem getting the tow trucks in the area, and you just might want to avoid that. join the nbc bay area waze team so that you can get around that if you're about to head out the door. our east bay drive times are looking pretty good from highway 4 to the bay bridge, takes you about 16 minutes on i-80 and westbound from 238 to the bay bridge, takes about 17 minutes.

good morning. right now at 6:11, we are tracking waves of rain coming through the bay area, also causing some street flooding with some of the heaviest rain right now across the south bay if you're about to head out the door in antioch the morning commute is wet and the rain lingers through the next few hours but clearing out the rest of the day.

we have a traffic alert i wanted to get to as we take a live look in oakland, a deadly crash on i-80 at gilman street ex-pit. the coroner just arrived on the scene. very sad news this morning on christmas day. we are seeing i-80 westbound closed due to that major crash. >> 6:12. chances are we've heard of paying it forward, doing a good deed and hoping you inspire someone else to dot same down the road. >> in the case of this story they paid the deed 17 years down the road. garvin thomas shares the story about giving hope when it's needed the most in this morning's "bay area proud. " >> reporter: in the katyar household in saratoga they have a special day they celebrate january 9th, not the birthday of twins erica and erith but the day they came home from the hospital. the family looks at pictures and tells stories, one story in particular that has clearly left an impression.

in the neonatal intensive care unit at lucille packard children's hospital stanford, there are likely thousands of medicines they can give these smallest of patients. for the babies' parents though, there is only one that gets them through the day. hope. >> just having hope is just a beautiful thing. >> reporter: 17 years ago barka katyar needed all the hope she could get. her twin children, erica and erith had come into the world at a perilously young age. >> they were 27 weeks, 1 pound 12 ounces and 1 pound 14 ounces. >> reporter: there were many times barka wondered if her children would survive and if so, what kind of life they would lead. she desperately needed hope. >> so the card says "from one preemie to another." >> reporter: it arrived one day in the shape of a blanket.

and a 3x5 card. >> from a girl who explains that today she's 15 years of age and she was born with, you know, all the issues that she had, and from the card, she was on the honor roll, she plays sports, she just sounds like a happy girl. it meant everything. it was hope. there was hope that you know, the kids could have a regular existence. >> reporter: it was a story erica, now a high school junior, heard many, many times growing up. so many, in fact, that when she turned 15, erica knew just what to do. >> when i turned 15, i was like oh my gosh, i mean, i'm the same age as this girl, i could do the same thing. it gave my mom a lot of hope and i kind of wanted to do the same thing for premature babies in the hospital today. dedicated to my twin brother eric who has been with me every step of the way.

>> reporter: instead of a card though -- >> because being rarely is so rare, i had a few problems here and there. >> reporter: erica wrote a book one she's been allowed to give to nicu families at lucille packard just like that blanket and card years ago. >> i went through many ups and downs, you see, but that didn't make me from any other babies. >> reporter: delivering doses of the medicine that is hope, just when it is needed the most. garvin thomas, "nbc bay area news." >> such a beautiful story, giving back. new this morning, there's a fresno dog getting a new leash on life in time for the holidays. simas is 9 years old and he's been at the rescue for five years was adopted over the weekend according to the organization's facebook. simas had specific needs, including a forever home without kids and no other dogs. a local couple took him home and

she's over it. that's fine. you're probably not alone. >> right, and so it's christmas day, the last day we have to deal with that. if you play it tomorrow you're a little crazy. poor kari. >> let's start out this morning, we have waves of rain coming through, even some lightning and hail earlier this morning in marin county. and now as we take a look at storm ranger, that's our mobile doppler radar showing the rain falling in parts of the east bay but it has cleared out from marin county which is great news because they had more than their fair share. union city and fremont may make the roads wet on 880 as well as 84 if you're about to head out and we're also seeing some of the heavier rain just over san jose now moving toward alum rock and also in milpitas this morning. waves of rain not done just yet. we've seen lightning strikes off the coast. we will have a chance of

lightning tooled as the upper level low seeing it to the rest of us, work across the bay area and will bring us rain over the next couple of hours. wer' not expecting a significant storm but for the most part we'll be drying out as the day goes along, may see some snow on some of our bay area peaks and going into this afternoon, still some spotty rain here and there, it's improving to get out and enjoy the toys outside, as we get more sunshine over the next few days. temperatures stay cool especially during the morning, dropping down into the mid-30s inland and high temperatures reaching the mid-50s. sunshine at times thursday through saturday and more clouds on sunday so get ready for another slight chance of rain at this point. we'll bring in some additional sierra snow and new year's eve looking dry with high temperatures in the upper 50s. breaking news we have a traffic alert in the east bay and

unfortunately very sad news on this christmas morning, we had a deadly crash on i-80 westbound the slow lane has reopened now that the coroner is on scene and this major crash happened at the gilman street off-ramp so we are seeing some slow recovery there as well as the rest of the bay area. look at the san mateo bridge with rain coming in still some puddles you have to drive over as you head out, some of our bridge drive times looking pretty good on westbound 580 at the richmond bridge, seven minutes westbound 80 at the bay bridge eight minutes. all of our drive times have been pretty good elsewhere across the bay area and i'll have more updates on the deadly crash on westbound i-80 coming up in a few minutes. >> kari, thanks. it is 6:20 right now. feeling a little holiday stress? coming up next on "today in the bay" what you can do to stay joyful this christmas. plus "nbc bay area responds." >> you have the physical gift card but scammers stole the money stored on it. i'm consumer investigator chris chmura.

moving through the bay area, and the north bay is taking the brunt of it with hail, thunder and lightning. >> a lot going on out there. taking a beautiful live look outside from san francisco to the east bay to san jose. the rain came down overnight. kari hall tracking our christmas forecast and how long this wet weather will last. merry christmas as well. thank you so much for joining us. i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm kira klapper in for marcus washington. we're going to send it to meteorologist kari hall with a look at our christmas forecast and the rain that santa encountered as he came to the bay area. >> take a look at this video from the hail that fell just north of the golden gate bridge in marin county, and there was so much of it that the chp had to issue advisories because it was coating the roads, making things icy and we had a few cars sliding off the roadway and sliding around on highway 101, and that also brought in some lightning along with some heavy

rain, we see that since clearing out. here is what storm ranger looks like right now, as we get a look at our rain that's now pushing toward the east and some of it covering the east bay as well as the south bay, a closer look, if you're about to head out we see some heavy rain on the bay bridge, extending toward oakland, as well as covering much of contra costa county, just east of concord, over toward brentwood and we're also seeing some heavy rain moving through union city, as it just to the north of fremont, and looking at sunol the waves of rain coming through milpitas as well as sunnyvale. we had an earlier fatality on the road in the east bay, just on the oakland and berkeley border, this was i-80 at gilman street exit, and unfortunately we had that fatality there, completely burned out vehicle so we've seen the slow lane reopening, it is very slow getting past that point, and we'll continue to monitor this

spot for updates throughout the morning. another update coming up in a few minutes. all right, kari, thanks. it is just shy of 6:3 2. breaking news overnight a 6-year-old boy is in the hospital after being shot in vallejo. >> roz plater is there at the scene with more on his condition. hi, roz. >> reporter: good morning. you know, we are in a neighborhood not unlike lots of other neighborhoods across the bay area, but this is where it happened specifically at the intersection of ohio and mariposa streets where police say this 6-year-old boy was celebrating christmas eve with his family. all of a sudden last night around 6:30 is when the shots rang out, multiple bullets flying. the 6-year-old was struck in the torso. by the time officers arrived on the scene they discovered the child had been rushed to the hospital in a car. we don't know how or why the

shooting happened or who the suspected shooter is, part of what police are still investigating this morning. officers towed away a motorbike, it is part of the investigation. we reached out to vallejo police for more information. our latest update is the young boy is in critical condition, sad news this christmas morning. of course if you know anything about what happened, vallejo police want to hear from you. we're live in vallejo i'm roz plater for "today in the bay." >> we hope there are some developments there and that that boy is okay. roz, thanks. 6:33 right now. also following breaking news in san francisco where right now police are looking for a person who shot two people overnight in the tenderloin about 11:30 last night. police say one person died at the scene while another was a car smashed into a hair salon at blackhawk. the pictures are dramatic.

it's very scary for people inside. it happened yesterday before noon. it was caught on video. at the beginning of the recording, you can see the car starting to glide into a parking spot and it appeared to speed up as it was pulling in. it crashed right through the business. >> i immediately clicked on my video camera on my phone and saw a car parked in the lobby, got in my car, cried all the way up here, i didn't know if anyone was hurt. >> when police and paramedics arrived they had to sift through merchandise, a broken door, a lot of glass. fortunately no one was hurt. >> it is 6:34 right now. police looking for a man who stabbed someone at the santa rosa shopping center monday about 8:20 at night. two men got into a fight at the macy's in the mall. after one of the men called the other a name, he was stabbed. that man was rushed to the hospital but is expected to be okay. police say the stabbing might have been gang related. we now know the name of the robbery suspect shot and killed by a bay point store clerk sunday.

contra costa sheriff's office says it's 31-year-old michael andrew, from merced. investigators say the clerk was acting in self-defense. police are still looking for the second suspect. >> 6:35 now. turning to capitol hill on this christmas day as president trump spends time in mar-a-lago over the holidays there is uncertainty over what is next from his impeachment. from his florida home president trump held a christmas eve televideo conference with five units around the globe. the president blasting democrats and house speaker nancy pelosi who is still withholding the articles of impeachment insisting on a real trial. meantime, democrats are still demanding documents and witnesses. >> they treated us very unfairly and now they want fairness in the senate. they ought to look back at the last year to see how they've hurt this country. >> we say to president trump, release the emails, let your

aides testify. we say to leader mcconnell, a fair trial with the facts. >> the president is expressing confidence in majority leader mitch mcconnell who has said publicly is he collaborating with the white house on out to proceed with the senate trial. >> it is 6:36. new details the fbi reportedly looking at last-minute pardons from former kentucky governor max bevin. bevin has come under fire in recent weeks for his more than 600 pardons and sentence reductions after he lost re-election in november. among the pardons a convicted child rapist and a man convicted of reckless homicide and other crimes. the man's family raised more than $21,000 at a political fund-raiser for bevin. back here in california, restrictions on rent increases will remain in place for another year in sonoma county, following the deadly and destructive wildfires there. pss democrat" governor gavin newsom is extending price gouging

protections for communities that have been affected by the 2017 north bay fires. it was set to expire at the end of this month. one san jose shark player gave a major helping hand to a family in need. >> that's right, he and his wife, the gomez munez family lost their home in san jose in a fire last week. then while they were staying at a hotel, their car was broken into. they lost pretty much everything. as we've been telling you here on nbc bay area, it caught the attention of christina marleau, the wife of sharks player patrick marleau. the couple shared the story on social media and quickly got to work. >> so i just called her and i said, you know, like what can we do? what are your immediate needs? we want to help. >> the gomez munez family are still trying to figure out the next step but with support from the community and now the san jose sharks, hopefully their

journey becomes a little easier. the go fund me account over $30,000. >> great news there. in san francisco this is a live look at volunteers giving on their christmas morning, getting ready to hand out christmas meals. this is a live look in the salvation army community center in soma. the meals include hand vegetables and hot chocolate and cookies, they'll go to people in san francisco who can't leave their homes or too sick to leave their homes. the delivery started at 8:00 a.m. >> that's really nice, people donating their time to pay it forward. >> so great. holiday cheer. >> holiday cheer. >> the holiday will last into the weekend as well, a lot of people looking forward to that. >> extended weekend and if you're going to be traveling, today is not a good day for that and it falls right on christmas with the storm that's coming through, but the rest of the week especially from tomorrow on through saturday, we're looking good, but i just wanted to show

you the wide view of where that rain is falling. track it with nbc bay area app. we'll have another chance of rain by the end of the weekend on sunday, but saturday is looking pretty good. we have some mid-50s for san francisco and some upper 50s inland. as we look ahead to that forecast this weekend, once again drying out after this storm passes by. by sunday there will be a new storm approaching for us, and we'll also see for the seattle game we'll be watching that here on nbc bay area. if you're traveling there expect some rain in seattle. as we head over to traffic we are also tracking this major traffic alert that affected a big portion of i-80 westbound near the gilman street off-ramp exit and that has still been one area that's slowing it down from oakland over toward berkeley and approaching the bay bridge. we also have a couple of accidents on 280 in san francisco, looks like there also

jose as the sumpb comes up we'll be able to look off to the east and see some snow on mt. hamilton. it will be a cool day as still some waves of rain linger across the south bay for the next couple of hours and drier weather for the afternoon. we have an update on the deadly crash on i-80, it's still blocking some of those lanes. the slow lane reopened that is i-80 westbound near the gilman street off-ramp. another update coming up in a few minutes. >> kari hall with weather and traffic on this christmas morning, thanks. we have new details out of butte county, where these two people are behind bars accused of stealing more than 100 packages. the pair was caught monday morning after trying to drive away from sheriffs deputies. jeremy blumline and breanna meyer were charged with identity theft, mail theft and violation of probation. methamphetamine was found in

their car as well as a wallet that this gifts and prepaid cards and hundreds of dollars of cash inside. california's legal pot industry no match for the black market. now some state officials are calling to overhaul the legal industry possibly even going back to voters. "l.a. times" is reporting the cannabis advisory committee is warning governor newsom the taxes are way too high and too many rules for pot shops. the tax revenue is only a third of what the state was hoping for. the committee estimates about 80% of all pot sales are done in the black market. earlier this month, oakland lowered its city pot taxes on shops. have strict vaccination laws made a difference? you may remember when california adopted strict childhood vaccination laws in 2014, requires children to be vaccinated in order to go to school.

researchers looked at how this law impacts vaccination rates across the state and the results, vaccinations for measles and mumps increased by 3%. the increase happened in areas where the risk of getting measles was high, but vaccination rates were low. at 6:46, it is an annual tradition that is now an annual story for us. south bay high school students granting as many holiday wishes as they can for fellow classmates and teachers. >> garvin thomas has one wish to make sure every student's wish lives on. >> so for this next wish i bring out robin gutierrez. >> reporter: when 14-year-old robin gutierrez made her way on to the winter wishes stage in december of 2016 she could not have known it would be the last time she'd be on that campus >> my name is robin. i am a freshman here. >> reporter: but those who knew

robin best. >> robin was my daughter. >> reporter: her mom erica and sister danielle say if she had, it wouldn't have changed a single thing she did that day. >> she wanted them to know she was like any other child, she just couldn't walk. >> reporter: robin had not been feeling well enough to go to the school for the previous two months but determined on this day to share her story what life was like with muscular dystrophy, and to make her wish in person. >> her ultimate goal she wanted to go to hollywood. >> reporter: robin's favorite past time was making movies with her friends and posting them to our youtube channel. her wish, 1,000 subscribers to that channel and her classmates responded. >> so we kept checking and we would make little announcements, you have this many. >> reporter: but in the week that followed, as robin's subscriber list grew stronger, she grew weaker. but before taking her last

difficult breath, just one month after the rally, robin did see her goal achieved. >> yes, i remember the moment she got to her goal. the wish coming true for her to me meant that there was a community that cared about, that cared about her. >> for this video we'd like robin's family to come up and join us. >> reporter: and apparently still does. robin would have been a senior this year. >> robin was a student that -- >> reporter: as part of this year's winter wishes rally, one of her classmates wished that a small part of campus be forever known as robin's grove. >> there just are not enough words. >> reporter: a permanent reminder of the power of wishes.

department. >> there was a lot the weather had to do with it. >> we had rain and hail this morning, lightning. now we are starting to see it winding down just a little bit. so here is a look at storm ranger and what we are showing as the heavy rain moves to the east. showers left behind and snow coming down on mt. hamilton. if that was your christmas wish you'll be able to see that in the distance and looking at oakland with still some rain left over the city right now, pushing toward brentwood and antioch and seeing rain moving over the tri-valley. we'll have waves of rain. we had some lightning strikes this to our south and we also have this upper level low the rest of the system and moving over the next couple of hours bringing some additional rain. as we head out in palo alto the roads are wet, multiple reports of some street flooding, and so you do need to watch out for that water that may still be left on the road but as we go into the rest of the day we will be drying out, still some clouds left behind and cool

temperatures, going hour by hour, we will start to see the rain tapering off. you want to head outside, test out the new toys looking better for the afternoon but it will still be chilly so you need to bundle up and there may still be some lingering showers going into this afternoon into the evening, befout for the most pa we'll be drying out. our seven-day forecast shows it staying cool, sunshine in the forecast in between the weather systems, by sunday we're seeing more clouds moving in, even a chance of some rain, as we watch the 49ers play right here on nbc bay area. they're also going up to seattle, where there will be some more rain and if you're looking ahead to the new year, new year's eve is dry with temperatures in the upper 50s. heading out there on the roads we had a major issue for the east bay from oakland, over toward berkeley, where we had i-80 westbound closed. we have live video. unfortunately i have to report there was a fatality there and so we are seeing them opening some of the slower lanes,

looking at this live view. we see the tow trucks there, also who had a hard time getting to the site after dealing with a backup on the roads on i-80 westbound. so just a heads up about that, as you head out this morning, a quick look at our traffic maps and what we're seeing elsewhere around the bay area. we have seen a couple other crashes and spinouts on the roads, and we'll be monitoring for that. looking at that area, just to show you exactly where that is, i-80 westbound, the slow lane has reopened, and the bay bridge is okay, but we've also seen some street flooding in san francisco. i-280 another accident that is heading up to the north, so we will possibly see more delays in that area getting into san francisco. another update on weather and traffic coming up in a few minutes. >> we'll check back with you. 6:52. happening now, notre dame cathedral celebrating the holiday despite being unable to

welcome back. merry christmas to you. thanks for joining us. here are the top stories that we're covering on this christmas morning. >> breaking news overnight some really sad news on this christmas morning, a 6-year-old boy is in critical condition, after he was shot in the torso last night. it happened around 6:30 in vallejo. police are investigating the shooting so we don't know how or why it happened but we'll keep you updated as we learn more. we are also following breaking news out of san francisco. right now police are looking for a person who shot two people overnight, this happened in the tend

tenderloin about 11:30 last night. one person dieded athe scene while another was rushed to the hospital. continuing coverage now on pg&e's bankruptcy. a group of wall street pg&e bond holders trying to take over the utility telling governor gavin newsom it can meet his demands. "the chronicle" says the group will consult with newsom on creating a new board of directors and give the state the power to buy pg&e if it's responsible for another wildfire. there's no response from the governor on that offer, just last week a judge approved pg&e's $13 billion settlement with fire victims as part of its bankruptcy exit plan. governor newsom says he supports the settlement but continues to demand a better restructuring plan. now to a follow-up in the south bay, the community is coming together to help a san jose church after a man and woman stole thousands of dollars in donations meant for toys for children. two unnamed donors are now chipping in $1,000 each for the lady of guadalupe church and

another person is donating $4,000 to go to the church's go fund me page. all the money is set to help the church give out items to local children in need. this comes after more than $3,000 was stolen from a donation box saturday. father robert brocado expresses his shock and delight. >> oh my gosh. $4,000? >> reporter: it's the $5,000 already. >> that's incredible. that's just amazing. wow. wow. see, that's just -- that's christmas. >> christmas miracle, church members still do hope though those two thieves give back the money they stole. payday will be a little better for some bay area workers. the new minimum wage is set at $15 an hour. local cities that will get a paid boost in the new year include belmont, menlo park and south san francisco. the number of cities with a $15 minimum wage is expected to double in 2020. if you're planning to return

that not so special holiday gift, you actually are not alone. this year 77% of consumers plan to return some of their gifts and nearly 20% expect to return more than half. that's according to a survey of over 15,000 consumers by oracle an online retail platform. returns are expected to peak january 2nd at 1.9 million items. if you're headed to tahoe maybe for the holiday, be prepared. here say liis a live look 80 at flat. cold, icy, a lot of snow up there. good news for anyone looking to hit the slopes, though. take it slow on the way there, and certainly pack the chains. and shocking, look at this, hail and lightning overnight in the north bay. kari hall how it z this impact santa? >> i think he made it okay in and out of the bay area. as we go into the rest of the day the rain will wind down. we'll dry out over the next couple of days and we have a live update from that accident that happened on i-80 westbound.
