expect and mike sees that on his traffic maps because the current temperatures are not bad. 45 in san jose, 43 in santa rosa. but yes, we are definitely getting reports of fog. you could see a little bit there towering in downtown san jose. look at the temperature trend, in the upper 50s by about 10:00 am. but i want to get right to visibility because look at san jose. down to about a quarter of a mile in santa rosa 4 miles and through san martin down to by a quarter of a mile. that could quickly become dangerous to keep your distance and always just stay within the speed limit or just a little bit i would say a good distance behind another car in front of you. because it limited the space. >> you have to slow down to allow yourself more reaction time even traffic is light now. allow the space. here is what vianey is talking about. her weather data translates to road data showing there is fog where it is highlights but we've seen patches of fog around the bay area.

205 slow through the altamont pass but positively affect us over here. and contra costa great drive toward the bay bridge. and highway 37 novato and san rafael as well and in san francisco highway 1 is 19th but before the two roadways merge we see slowing near junipero serra where is the v and the gas station and i'll hand it back to you, the breaking news. >> that is right. that is the breaking news that we're covering in san francisco this morning. a car crashing into a gas station and a driver needing to be rescued. >> "today in the bay" pete suratos is live along junipero iut there. >> reporter: very acserra in sa. still a very active scene. you could see that car that crashed into a structure at the thisre at 19th avenue and junipero serra and not too far from san

francisco state. there is dozens of firefighters still on scene working on that area. now we are getting new details from san francisco police as far as what happened. now they did confirm that this car did hit the structure that you guys are looking at. but they say in side of that structure that was part of a system that controls the vapor when you fill your car. now you could see video they had to rescue the victim out of that car, the driver out of the car. he appears to be moving in that video. he to be transported, we're told, to san francisco general for the injuries but right now we don't know exactly what led to this crash. this was a high-speed situation or what the investigation is. back out here live, you could see the car right there still in that structure. there is no public threat but it is unknown exactly when this area is going to reopen. we'll provide you any new updates when they come in. reporting live, pete suratos tor "today in the bay." >> pete, thank you.

s in 5:07 now. derick almena will be back in court to discuss a new trial date. the jury acquitted max harris but could not come to a decision on almena. people were killed in the 2016 fire which broke out during an electronic music show at the artist collective. new this morning, parents and teachers in the east bay are suing one school district for injuries suffered by police at a school board meeting back in october. the oakland school district had a meeting in which participants protested against plans to close schools including kaiser elementary and now eight people say police used excessive force and the parents say the police and the district violated their constitutional rights engage in free speech and public activity without being hurt. uc berkeley is stripping a

19th century namesake. john bolt's name was removed. bolt pushed for the 1882 chinese exclusion act. university officials say it is the first time uc berkeley has removed as facility name because of a character or actions of the namesake. ahead of this year's wildfire season, the state's most powerful utility regulator is limiting the pg&e planned blackouts. according to "the chronicle," the public utility commission is ordering pg&e to brief the commission about its plans to restrict the outages. the cpuc will sign off on any fire prevention regulations and they have to restore no more than 24 hours after risky weather. and we're monitoring an increase in wind speeds heading into super bowl sunday locally. potential for wind advisory. but the fog is along the coast and in through san jose but our

temperature. east san jose 70 and into the 70s at 69 and walnut creek 69. hayward 66. now around the coastline, we're going to keep the cloud cover lingering longer. 56 for mission. up to the north bay, 69 in novato. 70 degrees for santa rosa. i want to talk about the changes coming up because we're warm today and then we start cooling off on saturday. we increase cloud cover and get a trough that drops by. what will happen is that will increase our winds which could mean the chance of seeing possible wind advisories. maybe even some drizzle. don't worry, though, not expecting heavy rain. just enough to avoid washing your car because it might just get a little dusty. but super bowl sunday, windy conditions expected throughout the bay area. mike. >> i had planned on washing my car on super bowl sunday. i log over here. you might get some fog and that is an issue for driving through the south bay. we've seen this for the last couple of weeks, patchy fog. so another reminder, city streets are moving nicely but lower the speed if visibility is

with some selling more than $11,000. last night they paid tribute to bryant with video and some players wearing kobe's shoes. the clippers also honored bryant during their game against the sacramento kings. kobe dies tragically in a helicopter crash on sunday along with his 13-year-old daughter and seven others. the long beach based company that operated the helicopter is suspending operations in the wake of the crash. meantime, an l.a. congressman is now calling on the faa to beef up chopper safety regulations by requiring a terrain alarm system. it is 5:24 now. california may expand the campaign to fight discriminatory laws in other states. a new bill would prohibit employees from using trump owned locations for state-funded business. in 2017 california stop state funded travel to states with laws that discriminate based on sexual orientation or gender identity or expression.

just off of highway 1 because our big breaking news, this is weird. >> that is right. it is out of san francisco this morning. where officers are investigating what led up to a car smashing moo a tank at a gas station. you could understand what a delicate situation that would be. it happened at a chevron station along junipero serra not too far from san francisco state. at one point look at all of the firefighters. they were nearly three dozen firefighters working to get someone out of a car. that actually hit the gas station building. the car caught on fire. the flames had to be put out during the rescue as well. the vike was taken to sf general. police say right now there is no public threat. our pete suratos is there at the scene. and we'll check in with him with a live report as soon as gets more updated information. 5:32 right now. and day two -- two days i should say until the super bowl and the

bob redell is live for us inside the international terminal at sfo and i know the u.s. state department now advising against travel to that country. >> reporter: yes, marcus. state department is not only issuing this this do not travel advisory to china, the allied pilots association representing the american airlines pilots are advising it is 15,000 pilots to decline assignments to fly to china. it is not clear how many pilots are heeding that warning. i did check online and there is still an american airlines flight, a red eye tonight from sfo to beijing. yesterday the world health organization declared it a global health emergency as the number of coronavirus cases in china has risen to ov9,800 case

people. here is a look at the california districts now suing juul. there are 16 taking legal action across the state. the real i.d. deadline is quickly approaching and there is concern the americans won't be readych the deadline is october 1st. all those over 18 must present real i.d. complaint identification to fly but you can show your passport. make sure it is updated. according to a recent letter from the department of homeland security, only 20% of americans have received the real i.d. and 40% don't know about the deadline, putting as many as 85,000 travelers at risk of being blocked when flying the first day that the requirement is in et.t actually this week, . and i met danny over at the al ma station. so shout out to him because he is a big "today in the bay" viewer. >> anyone at the dpv, we're happy to see you. hope you're happy to see us.

we'll see this, the bay bridge back-up forming as the metering lights were turned on 5:31, just after the last report. so it looks like a friday with the slower build. a factor for the lanes. the fast track lanes in the middle there. as we look at the rest of the approach. contra costa no problem. just fog. zooming out, the south bay and the fog hasn't left the area as far as our road weather index is concerned. a quick look at waze. one of the unnamed wazers pointing out the crash over there just off of 205. what is going on is there was a crash holding folks up in tracy but the sensors are out there and it will take you to miami if you take waze to miami, it will help you get around there. >> that is quite a drive. >> but you could take me to miami and i'll be happy to navigate. >> i could volunteer. >> if you left right now, maybe you could make it for the game. >> road travel. most of us are staying here this weekend. >> and they're tracking storms for tonight and into tomorrow but the weather will clear out

for them just in time for the super bowl which is great. so our bay area forecast locally. today warm in san francisco. 63 degrees. but look at saturday. increasing clouds. the reason is because we've got a trough that is going to drop down and you know what is going to happen? our temperatures will start dipping down into the 50s. which is actually more seasonable for this time of the year. we're usually an average high of about 58. now by sunday we're monitoring the winds as the trough begins to dip down. we're going to start to see winds develop. first around the coastline and then moving further inland, between 15, upwards of 30 miles per hour. just in time for super bowl sunday. and notice the change in temperatures as well. today we're in the upper 60s, a couple of 70s and then increasing cloud cover on saturday and then look at what happens on sunday, 56 degrees. chilly overnight lows as well. we'll dip down into the 30s sunday night into monday which means frosty conditions for the sheltered valleys. now if you are heading out of

innocence could come soon after. we know senator lamar alexander will vote against witnesses. he votes first because of the alphabet. a yes vote from him might haven boldened others and led to more yes votes but that is not a night here scenario are a tie. those believe that john roberts could break the tie. the constitution said the presiding officer of the senate breaks the ties but that is normally the vice president. it is pretty vague about what happens if it is not the vice president. but if everybody did agree on the rules about a tie, it would put roberts in an awful position. the supreme court wants to stay out of politics. when rehnquist presided over the clinton impeachment he said he did a good job doing nothing. roberts casting a vote to break a tie sucks the supreme court into this in a way it doesn't want. during question-and-answer
