there have been more than 300 killed so far in nearly 18,000 people affected. most of those cases have been in china. but here in the u.s., the cases do continue to rise as well. we have so far 11 with the most recent cases in california. for the latest, we turn to our nbc reporter live in beijing for us to break it all down. good morning to you, janis. >> reporter: good morning. the ban bans any foreigners from entering the country if they've been to china as well as any u.s. citizen who's visited the province of wuhan for 19 days. many call this mean saying the u.s. was the first to pull its stock, the first to push for stronger travel restrictions, effectively banning anybody who stepped foot into china, which

is a lot of people given the amount of air traffic. perhaps it's no coincidence then that the flights that were to evacuate hundreds of americans from wuhan back to the united states have been postponed people who were notified to be at the airport were notified to hang tight until further notice. meanwhile the numbers continue to edge higher here and everything seems to be in short supply china is opening the first of at least three emergency hospitals, this one in wuhan, built literally in days with millions of people watching on a leave stream over state television will be staffed by military doctors and nurses as well, the sense that the numbers will go higher is pretty rampant here there are still a lot of restrictions that are in effect. the holiday has been extended. but the government is also discouraging people from rushing back to work in the cities too
