season. >> it was a great run. everybody is talking about the game. of course the commercials, too. it is interesting to see what your favorites were. >> i think this one was mine. >> there is a whole different perspective. we'll talk more about that coming up in just a little bit. >> kari is back this morning. >> good morning. and we have cold air this morning. >> no kidding. >> i'm hearing the heater kicking on more to keep up with the temperatures outside. it is 32 in livermore. 30 in napa. so we're seeing freezing already and we'll see more freezing temperatures over the next couple of mornings. here is a look at our highs for today. we're only going to make it up to 53 in livermore today. it is going to be cooler than the weather we had last week. so we'll talk more about this and what is ahead as we go into the next few days. mike, you have a crash you're tracking? >> i do. one of the only things going on for the chp plotter road work in

the caldecott tunnel. and you see the icon in the map. a report of two vehicles that have made their way out of the tunnel on the oakland side. there is no slowing that shows up. we still have one more fully functional. but we are watching for more activity and updates. that is just a note for folks out of walnut creek, lafayette, orinda, toward the toll plaza. everything else moving smoothly. the toll plaza does have cash lanes with a backup right now. back to you. >> thanks, mike. as the saying goes, there is always next year. it is hard to say but the 49ers are not the super bowl champions. >> the team promising to be back and better after yesterday's disappointing loss to the chiefs. niners were in control but fell apart in the fourth quarter there. >> now second and six. williams makes a cut. and will roll into the end zone for the touchdown. >> that was the play that iced

bringing some fans to tears. kansas city chiefs fans enjoying the moment of victory. 49er fans feeling the agony of defeat, bringing this young woman to tears. her father is the defensive backs coach for the niners. >> i'm just a little emotional because he -- it is a big thing for him and it is a really big thing for me and it's just -- it was still an amazing thing to be here. >> with only seconds to go, 49er fans started leaving the hard rock stadium. they knew their team came just short of the lombardi trophy. >> we'll be back. they're a good team. we'll give it to them. but we'll be back. >> we have next season. i want to get back here. let's do it next year, baby, i'm going to go cry my heart out at home. >> the team with the season well exceeding expectations but now fans expect the team to make it back to the super bowl next year. >> we could smell it.

we were that close. but you have to hand it to the chiefs. >> i went to new orleans, so third time is a charm. >> reporter: 49er fans say they will be back next year as super bowl contenders. i'm cheryl hurd for "today in the bay." >> thank them for a great season. thanks, cheryl. 4:35 and a man is expected to be charged after police say that he fired shots in a packed san francisco bar at the the end of the super bowl game after 7:00 at the polo grounds pub on third street. police say the gunman was kicked out minutes before the shooting but managed to find his way back into the bar and that is when he started firing those shots. now the suspect then drove off crashing into a light pole just a block away. police say no one was seriously hurt. it is a huge week in politics. the president's impeachment trial wraps up and the state of the union in nancy pelosi's chamber and by tonight tens of thousands of democrats will

participate minute famed iowa caucus. >> to decide who is best positioned to take on president trump this fall. while that is going on, here in california there are concerns about our primary. >> kris sanchez joins us with more on a big ballot back-up that is likely coming. >> reporter: hi there. this could be the biggest voter turnout in a very long time for a number of different reasons and because of that we're already being warned that the counting of the ballots could take a pretty long time. now for first, california is holding the primary on super-tuesday in march instead of in june so we vote on the same day as the caucuses instead of months after that. while you'll have to wait until march to vote in person, you likely have received a mail-in ballot and you could start dropping those off starting today. also new to selection, if you haven't registered to vote, you can register to vote up until

8:00 on election day. that is march 3rd at any polling place or voting center and that could also increase voter turnout and the time to verify the last-minute provisional ballots. they have to go through a number of different checks to make sure they are the real deal. the democratic primary isn't the only big item on the ballot for march. at 5:30 we'll talk about other items to watch for as you mail in your ballot starting today. i'm kris sanchez for "today in the bay." now our reports on the bay area housing crisis here in our area, now this morning oakland mayor libby schaaf will announce the progress on a program keep oakland housed to provide services for people who could not find affordable housing and are pushed into cars or tents or out of oakland altogether. that project started in 2018 to prevent homelessness in the city. city college of san francisco is discussing plans to renovate the booth without

cutting classes according to the sf examiner. college leaders cut over 300 spring classes because of an $11 million deficit. the decision sparked outcry with some critics saying it was unfair to minority children. now the board will consider other options before cutting more classes. an east bay b.a.r.t. station is getting an upgrade on 19th street. part of the b.a.r.t. 2014 station modernization plan. b.a.r.t. asked what needed the most improvement, some of the top issues were having working escalators and elevators and improving station cleanliness and upgrading the lights within the station. 4:38 now. and chaos at border. still ahead this morning, the protests over president trump's proposed border wall and a look at how much has already been built. plus getting repairs for your apple device means either visiting a store or mailing it in. why soon you might have to do

next. and a live look at the san mateo bridge, highway 92 and the lightun sign does say chp is concerned about gusty winds they've encountered and we'll talk about what else they're encountering after a change at the caldecott tunnel. good morning. i'm rahel solomon at cnbc headquarters. wall street set to open higher this morning. china markets returning from the lunar new year holiday today and stocks plunging as much as 9% on coronavirus fears. the rest of asia trading flat to lower today while europe is higher. u.s. markets sold off on friday. the worse day since august, down 603 points as fears that the coronavirus will slow global economic growth rattled investors. today reports on manufacturing, construction spending and auto sales. and of course you guys know as well as anyone that the chiefs won the super bowl and that could be a bad sign for the stock market. an afc team has won the big game

26 times, not including last night and the s&p 500 has dropped in eight of those years or about 30%. so this is a slightly higher chance of decline when you compare it to the overall odds had a the s&p would fall in any given year which is closer to about 25%. the average annual move when an afc team wins is about 6.6%. so in careson the nfc has won the title 27 times and the s&p 500 has dropped in six of the years or about 22% of the time. here at cnbc clearly we love our numbers. and getting repairs for your apple device usually meant visiting the store or mailing it in but if you live in the right city you may not have to. apple is offering on-site service in a handful of places including san francisco, new york, chicago, dallas and los angeles. apple appears to be using a contractor and is asking users to book an appointment that may high school include an on-site visit fee. there are some repairs that

and a good morning to you on this monday. taking a live look at clear beautiful shot of the golden gate bridge. starting off that monday morning. the clouds mean colder temperatures. meteorologist kari hall is tracking that for us. walk out of the door today and i'm like uh-huh, where am i. >> you need the hat and gloves

and scarf and all of that stuff. and we're having to really feel some cold air that we haven't really had recently. so we're getting back in that pattern after yesterday's cold front came through and you noticed it because it was so windy that wind was that cold front sweeping through the bay area. so now in dublin as you head out of the door, it is all clear. very dry and crisp air. no worries about fog. but look at our temperatures now. we are going to have some freezing temperatures many some of the inland valleys and already freezing in livermore and napa. we have upper 30s in santa rosa. even 39 right now in san francisco. now as we go throughout the day, we're going to slowly warm up. it is not going to be that warm at all. in fact, only reaching 53 at lunchtime in san jose. we're at 52 in danville. and in novato it is 52 degrees. so you may still have on that heavier jacket as you head out for lunch. even heading home today we're looking at some low 50s for many of our inland areas which is

cooler than normal, then tomorrow morning we'll have more of the very cool air. we'll also have a freeze warning going into effect late tonight for the areas shaded in purple including much of the north bay as we drop down into the upper 20s, we're looking at a lot of rain but it is just not coming to the bay area. in fact it stays to the north as high pressure blocks that. but we'll see some changes by the end of the week. this low will slide down into california but unfortunately still no rain. it is going to be a dry one and another push of some cold air that will keep us dry as well. now we're looking at a dry week ahead. temperatures only reaching the low to mid-50s today. morning temperatures in the upper 30s inland. now it does start to feel better and milder as we go toward the end of the week. but that cold front comes in on sunday and we'll feel some much cooler air by the end of the weekend. mike, now you have a new crash in oakland? i do. i have two incidents for the

east bay to affect folks, the bay bridge toll plaza is all right but south of there, southbound 880 just got word of crash and the sensors changed from green to red approaching broadway and toward 980, with a car sideways across the report and so a must be of lanes, possibly two or three lanes blocked now. my hope is that as crews arrive or with the car itself may be able to get over to the shoulder. we'll track that. heading south on 880 toward downtown oakland. an earlier traffic break that is over starting back before wilder toward the caldecott. the third bore is the one that is closed so if you are traveling west, that is the one on the left traveling over in your commute direction. that is good muse. they still have the newest bore open over there. the rest of the bay is moving smoothly. green on the sensor. oakland north is fine, it is the southbound side that shows the

crash and the jam toward 980 and across the san mateo bridge an easy drive. the sign lit up warn about gusty winds about the bridges so keep that in mind as you cross. back to you. >> new video showing migrants and activists setting fire to a sculpture of president trump in tijuana. the protesters say they reject construction of a wall and say there should be bridges connecting both countries. meanwhile the u.s. customs and border protection said nearly 100 miles of border wall are up now. now to decision 2020. candidate michael bloomberg will be in california today instead of iowa where caucusing begins today. he'll tour the state with leaders and supporters with stops in sacramento, fresno and compton. this is his fourth campaign visit to california. so can we cancel? that is the question many travelers are asking about upcoming trips to china. >> chris chmura is fielding questions about coronavirus.
