safe to say we'll likely see an acquittal today. >> we're expecting to see an acquittal today, frances, because neither democrats nor republicans have given any indication that they will cross party lines. republicans already seeing this as a victory democrats frustrateded that they could not get any witnesses into this trial and then we've got republicans in the middle like susan collins who's decided to vote to acquit the president saying the house democrats did not meet their burden of showing that it was urgent to get him out of office. and that they undercut their own argument by delaying sending over those airktd rticles of impeachment by 33 days as you note, the president did not mention impeachment at all during his message last night. he focused on the economy. he focused on other issues that he thought would rally his base. but the democrats, democratic response didn't shy away from putting this speech in the context of the impeachment

well the state democratic party blaming the holdup on what they're calling a coding issue with the new app they used nbc's cynthia mcfadden has this report >> reporter: long before iowa voters gathered at nearly 1,700 caucuses, precinct capital sxnz caucus organizers in the iowa city area knew of problems with their new app that was supposed to tabulate results like a fancy calculator this e-mail chain provided to nbc news shows their mounting concerns 9:09 a.m nobody having trouble with the app should feel dumb, one organizer wrote. at 9:13 a.m. a precinct chair replies, "i gave up on the app." a few minutes later at 9:29 another joke, "just don't submit your results." by 4:30 p.m. nbc news had talked to 12 precinct chairs who said they either couldn't download the app or log in. right around 10:00 some precinct chairs had abandoned the app altogether and resorted to a

hotline to call in results but there were problems. >> being on hold with the democratic party trying to report the results was like being on hold with customer service at your cable company. >> i have no idea what's going on >> reporter: trouble was clearly brewing. caused it appears not by the russians but by the iowa democratic party itself, which blamed a coding issue for problems processing results, emphasizing they were not hacked security experts tell us they're alarmed the party has refused to reveal who made the app. even worse, that the party told precinct chairs to download it to their unsecured personal phones chad wols, acting head of the definite homeland security his this to say. >> we offered to december that app from a hack perspective. they declined. >> i have no knowledge of the department of homeland security making that offer to us. >> reporter: so who did make the

citizens from wuhan is making its way to california. nbc's tom costello has the latest >> reporter: at the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak long lines to get into a hospital in wuhan, china the first american confirmed to have coronavirus in china is being treated in wuhan while in the united states still 11 confirmed cases in riverside, california an infant has been hospitalized with a fever out of an abundance of caution among the 195 americans evacuated out of china last week under quarantine for 14 days another plane of stranded americans headed to a u.s. base. >> what's different about novel coronavirus is we don't know a lot about it yet and we don't have a vaccine and so our methods to prevent it are more limited >> reporter: with much of the world's second largest economy on lockdown, growing concern about the global impact. major u.s. retailers closing thousands of stores across china. airline service suspended. car companies and manufacturers

>> reporter: jessica mann hurried out of court after day three of grueling testimony. hours on the stand clutching an orange stress ball the defense picked up right where it left off on monday, when the 34-year-old who says weinstein raped her broke down in tears and proceedings ended early. weinstein's attorney once again questioning the nature of mann's relationship with the hollywood producer after she says he assaulted her. including a visit in 2016 to the peninsula hotel in l.a., where mrn told the court weinstein raped her three years prior. four hours after meeting weinstein in his room she wrote to him, "i feel so fabulous and beautiful. thank you for everything." weinstein pleaded not guilty to all five charges he faces and denies ever having non-consensual sex the defense team argues mann turned to weinstein for help and advice repeatedly throughout a relationship that lasted years including asking him for assistance with her father's car registration and looking for invites to awards ceremonies
