you can barely catch the flashing lights. there's a disabled vehicle, a distraction, but i see a lot of brake tapping. this may just be the volume of traffic which has really kicked in the last few minutes. so far we have no other incidents to report. that slowdown extends past the toll plaza and the view we saw. the dumbarton bridge looking great. one more disabled vehicle outside for west 24. the fastrak lanes. it's good if you have that transponder. on capitol hill the month long attempt to remove president trump from office has failed. the senate voted to acquit. "today in the bay's" tracie potts joins us live where we're expected to hear from the president in a few hours. he's at that prayer breakfast this morning. >> reporter: we'll hear from him

this afternoon about the impeachment trial and the end of it but right now taking a live look in washington the president is listening, shortly to speak at the national prayer breakfast. he was holding up newspapers showing he had been acquitted and aquisted despite the fact one republican, mitt romney, voted against him on abuse of power. he voted his conscience, that his faith was important to him in making this decision. we will hear more about this when the president speaks in about three hours. democrats and republicans trying to figure out how to work together and move on. >> it's time to move on. this decision has been made. as far as i'm concerned it's in the rearview m-view mirror.

>> reporter: one thing we know the democrats may be doing, trying to call john bolton as a witness. he never got a chance to testify in the senate trial. now house democrats are considering a subpoena to get him to talk there. back to you. >> always something happening in washington. thank you for covering it for us. it is 6:04. to decision 2020. the democratic party still cleaning up the mess in iowa from the caucuses. the results are in and pete buttigieg is getting serious action. he has a thin lead over bernie sanders with less than one percentage point separating the two. ahead of the march 3rd primary, they want to remind people early

voting is already under way in several bay area counties and mail-in ballots went out this week. the deadline is february 18th. we're getting in this video of another shooting on the east bay freeway. it is the third one in a week. "today in the bay's" bob redell has more for us. >> reporter: it's not clear whether the shootings are related or coincidental. there have been three so far. the first was sunday on 580 in observing. another one in an on ramp in fremont and another on ramp in oakland. it happened around 10:50. someone shot up this red sedan as the driver was on the 23rd avenue on ramp. you could see the driver's side one dough was shot out and four

bullet holes. the driver was not hurt. chp investigated. no arrests so far. this bmw sedan was shot twice as the driver was on the on ramp to 880. the driver was not hurt but said two cars were following him when he heard the gunfire. on sunday afternoon around 3:30 the driver of a black sedan crashed on eastbound 580 at the air son street on ramp after their car had been shot multiple times. no one was hurt. chp investigating all three. not clear if they're related. >> a scary situation there, bob. thank you. 6:06. developments overnight in the

deadly coronavirus. here are the latest numbers. more than 28,000 people infected worldwide and as far as the deaths more than 500. the u.s. now has its 12th confirmed case, this one in wisconsin. the first u.s. patient has been released. in california, 4 of the 12 cases here in the bay. a recently organized coronavirus conference. city public safety leaders will talk about the lunar parade preparations and we're hearing from some of the families quarantined at travis. flight staff were wearing full hazmat suits. those passengers will be quarantined on the base for 14 days. one couple had been visiting their son in wuhan. >> at the airport everybody

wearing the hazmat suits through the checkpoints, it was very scary. >> all of the passengers are considered high risk and will wait there and be tested at least twice a day. once the 14-day period is over and if they don't have any symptoms they will be released. 6:08. today lawyers for the luxury store chanel will go head-to-head with a bay area man who wants to open a high-end pot dispensary next to the union square luxury store. "today in the bay's" kris sanchez joins us with more on this battle. kris? >> reporter: picture union square and imagine is there room there for a pot dispensary particularly a high end luxury one. they will hear an appeal for those who want the commissioners to say no to the proposed two

floor dispensary where the store used to be. the applicant, alexis bronson, partnered up with have a heart pot dispensary business and though they've been paying rent at that proposed location next door to chanel, they still need to give the green light before they can start doing business. attorneys for chanel wrote in the request for a discretionary review, quote, the retail pot clientele is at odds with the luxury clothing and the presence of the have a heart dispensary. the planning commission will hear the request for a review today. the staff recommendation is that the planning commission accept that project as proposed and move forward. kris sanchez, "today in the bay." >> kris, thank you. 6:09 right now. skiers and snowboarders, a new

gondola is on track to connect to popular tahoe ski resorts. we've been telling you about this in the "l.a. times" reporting a lawsuit seeking to block that has been displaced. the resorts will conserve 27 acres as wildlife happen at that time and the tram itself will be rerouted away from wilderness. it will take 15 minutes to travel from one resort to the other. keanu reeves in san francisco is there filming "matrix 4. this is where north beach meets chinatown. >> i heard he was going in and out yesterday as well? >> really? >> a lot of people in the area. >> yum-yum.

today after ipo-ing at $12. no price change yet. that's the xs. tesla, i feel bad for people seeing tesla going up and up and up, i should get in on that because it went down, down, down on wednesday. elon musk $6 billion less rich this morning. another positive step in the trade war, china cutting tariffs on $75 billion in american goods. they will fall by 50%. china also promised to make big purchases of american goods and farm products but might have trouble doing that because the coronavirus is getting worse in china and is affecting the country's economy. the japanese company nintendo says some new shipments of switch will be delayed because of coronavirus. i know that's not important when so many people are actually dying, but it is a sign the disease is affecting world trade. the trump administration says

it'll stop people in new york state from getting global entry cards. it's a fast pass for u.s. passport control. people who get them, americans, who come and go in and out of the country get to speed up their trips like a tsa. because new york allows undocumented people to have documents like drivers licenses, they're not going to let any new yorker have global entry. california also does this but so far we get to keep our global entry. nobody enters the globe quite like this woman, christina koch. she came back from space early this morning after 11 months, 328 days, to be exact, making her the longest space faring woman in human history. she landed in kazakhstan because we don't have space ships. we hitch rides with the russians. she came back with an italian

store there does take cash. trending this morning we've all been there, right? a new poll exposing the extreme lengths some of us go to to avoid a bad hair day. every american has an average of 96 bad hair days a year and 80% of people say they've had to stay inside due to their locks not being on point. some have even used a sick day to deal with it. that's pretty extreme. we put out a call to our crew. oh, look at this, our producer justin. he had a mohawk there. that looks good. >> it looks bad to the bone. >> and kris sanchez, this is just wind. you always look amazing. >> look how shiny it is. >> reporter: well, listen, you accepted us out in all kinds of conditions but i don't take pictures when my hair is bad. only when it's good.

it is going to be a nice one. low 60s as you go back to pick up the kids. up to 67 degrees in san jose and palo alto. still a lot of warm and sunny weather and that's because all of the rain has been going up and around and missing the bay area. heading to the pacific northwest. blocked by high pressure. no rain or snow in the forecast. we have warm temperatures there. a lot of the snow has been melting but we have about 48 inches and in the mountains of 95 inches of snow. we will have cool weather, very nice if you're planning to head to the new year chinese parade. bundle up. 54 degrees, cooling down to 52

as the night goes along. cooling down by the end of the weekend on sunday as the winds pick up. mike, more slowing to the peninsula. and that's the trend. we have the slower drive looking good for about five minutes and filled back up again. the slower drive extended to the high rise here. that's your commute. the build on the dumbarton. a crash reported in the westbound direction and we see the slowing there over to the high rise so that is a factor now as well as you're traveling 84 to the menlo park. a mild build through san jose. we don't see a lot of slowing to fish ranch road.

slightly cooler for the weekend. in san francisco as you make weekend plans in the upper 50s. we'll focus on that weekend forecast and talk about what's going on. a new crash in san jose. >> north 101 just past the merge. the crash quickly got moved to the shoulder and we see a little bit of recovery. 101, for 87 and 85 the build is on. we do have a crash. >> thanks, mike. commuter villages are already a growing thing here in the bay area. this morning cal train will vote on whether to bring more affordable housing to stations. sharon katsuda, you would think more housing is a good thing.

not everyone is onboard with this, sharon. >> reporter: that's right, marcus. this is a very active area. you can see traffic picked up and cal train going this morning. housing advocates say they'll pick up. the idea is to bring more housing around transit stations. those plans on include taking away parking and raising concerns about congestion in nearby areas. housing advocates say they'll push for cal train to apply all parcels open to housing instead of a small fraction that's now slated under the policy. first work with housing developers who commit to 100% housing -- affordable housing. provide at least 30% affordable housing. one of the renters said he's paying $3,700 a month for rent.

first-degree murder in the shooting of six people early monday outside of bakersfield. one person died. his attorney is asking for more time to evaluate a possible conflict of interest. san francisco's public works department expected in connection with the ongoing corruption probe. mohammed nuru is accused of receiving kickbacks including an sfo restaurant deal. to participate in this year's pride festival. organizers met last night in san francisco rethinking those nonbinding bans against google. pride board officers say they want to emphasize inclusiveness. >> the bay area housing crunch. san francisco mayor london breed is spearheading a plan aimed at cutting the red tape. some new home construction. about 50,000 signatures will be needed before july 6th for it to appear on the november ballot. 6:36. happening today the city of fremont will host its first mobility summit. city and transportation agencies will discuss the challenges of getting around in fremont and how technology can reduce accidents and traffic. we can always just use mike inouye. >> thank you.

happy friday eve. it is 6:43 and we're taking a live look outside in san jose as the sun rises. we're still 20 minutes away from sun rise and we're going to feel our temperatures in the low 40s to start rising above normal reaching 63 by 2:00. the drought monitor just updated, we'll talk about that in less than five minutes. heads up, commuters. westbound dumbarton bridge. there is a disabled vehicle at the high rise causing more slowing there. a crash does have everything off to the shoulder. it is a distraction and southbound 17, both lanes are blocked by a crash there but the northbound side the commute builds up.

thank you, mike. >> lawyers for chanel will go head-to-head with a bay area man who wants to open a high-end pot dispensary right next to the union square luxury store. >> "today in the bay's" kris sanchez with more on this battle. >> reporter: the pot dispensary owner and luxury business owner are at odds. they say their clientele is just not the same. the lawyers for chanel and other property owners want them to say no at 146 geary avenue. the applicant is partnered one seattle-based have a heart pot dispensary business. though they have been paying rent at that proposed location they need the planning commission to give the green light before they can start doing business there.

well as tomorrow as we see the rain to the west of us. into the weekend the low starts to dive to the south bringing down some cooler canadian air along with gusty winds but no rain, at least not here. we could see a few soughty showers but it's been a dry start to the month of february and we know that january was really dry, too. over to the east bay and extending to the sacramento valley where we are abnormally dry. santa rosa is missing nearly 6 inches of rain and approaching that abnormally dry category. we have more dry weather in the forecast. we go into the week, still going to be cool especially during the early morning and late evening hours.

here are the top stories on "today in the bay." a new round of gun violence on a bay area freeway. this is the third shooting within a week on a bay area interstate including two on 880 within the past 24 hours. one on 580 in oakland on sunday. the latest 880 shooting happened a little after 10:00 last night. that's when chp officers in oakland found a car sprayed with bullets near the 23rd avenue northbound on ramp. yesterday morning we brought you live breaking news coverage of a shooting in fremont. no one was injured in any of the shootings. the deadly b.a.r.t. stabbing trial resumes later this morning in oakland. john lee cowell accused of killing nia wilson in 2018 and critically injuring her sister. cameras are not allowed in the courtroom but cowell had to be removed in opening statements for repeatedly interrupting prosecutors. jurors also saw gruesome surveillance video of the attack. a judge later allowed cowell to
