this afternoon about the impeachment trial and the end of it but right now taking a live look in washington the president is listening, shortly to speak at the national prayer breakfast. he was holding up newspapers showing he had been acquitted and aquisted despite the fact one republican, mitt romney, voted against him on abuse of power. he voted his conscience, that his faith was important to him in making this decision. we will hear more about this when the president speaks in about three hours. democrats and republicans trying to figure out how to work together and move on. >> it's time to move on. this decision has been made. as far as i'm concerned it's in the rearview m-view mirror.

voting is already under way in several bay area counties and mail-in ballots went out this week. the deadline is february 18th. we're getting in this video of another shooting on the east bay freeway. it is the third one in a week. "today in the bay's" bob redell has more for us. >> reporter: it's not clear whether the shootings are related or coincidental. there have been three so far. the first was sunday on 580 in observing. another one in an on ramp in fremont and another on ramp in oakland. it happened around 10:50. someone shot up this red sedan as the driver was on the 23rd avenue on ramp. you could see the driver's side one dough was shot out and four

bullet holes. the driver was not hurt. chp investigated. no arrests so far. this bmw sedan was shot twice as the driver was on the on ramp to 880. the driver was not hurt but said two cars were following him when he heard the gunfire. on sunday afternoon around 3:30 the driver of a black sedan crashed on eastbound 580 at the air son street on ramp after their car had been shot multiple times. no one was hurt. chp investigating all three. not clear if they're related. >> a scary situation there, bob. thank you. 6:06. developments overnight in the

deadly coronavirus. here are the latest numbers. more than 28,000 people infected worldwide and as far as the deaths more than 500. the u.s. now has its 12th confirmed case, this one in wisconsin. the first u.s. patient has been released. in california, 4 of the 12 cases here in the bay. a recently organized coronavirus conference. city public safety leaders will talk about the lunar parade preparations and we're hearing from some of the families quarantined at travis. flight staff were wearing full hazmat suits. those passengers will be quarantined on the base for 14 days. one couple had been visiting their son in wuhan. >> at the airport everybody

wearing the hazmat suits through the checkpoints, it was very scary. >> all of the passengers are considered high risk and will wait there and be tested at least twice a day. once the 14-day period is over and if they don't have any symptoms they will be released. 6:08. today lawyers for the luxury store chanel will go head-to-head with a bay area man who wants to open a high-end pot dispensary next to the union square luxury store. "today in the bay's" kris sanchez joins us with more on this battle. kris? >> reporter: picture union square and imagine is there room there for a pot dispensary particularly a high end luxury one. they will hear an appeal for those who want the commissioners to say no to the proposed two

floor dispensary where the store used to be. the applicant, alexis bronson, partnered up with have a heart pot dispensary business and though they've been paying rent at that proposed location next door to chanel, they still need to give the green light before they can start doing business. attorneys for chanel wrote in the request for a discretionary review, quote, the retail pot clientele is at odds with the luxury clothing and the presence of the have a heart dispensary. the planning commission will hear the request for a review today. the staff recommendation is that the planning commission accept that project as proposed and move forward. kris sanchez, "today in the bay." >> kris, thank you. 6:09 right now. skiers and snowboarders, a new

gondola is on track to connect to popular tahoe ski resorts. we've been telling you about this in the "l.a. times" reporting a lawsuit seeking to block that has been displaced. the resorts will conserve 27 acres as wildlife happen at that time and the tram itself will be rerouted away from wilderness. it will take 15 minutes to travel from one resort to the other. keanu reeves in san francisco is there filming "matrix 4. this is where north beach meets chinatown. >> i heard he was going in and out yesterday as well? >> really? >> a lot of people in the area. >> yum-yum.

as the night goes along. cooling down by the end of the weekend on sunday as the winds pick up. mike, more slowing to the peninsula. and that's the trend. we have the slower drive looking good for about five minutes and filled back up again. the slower drive extended to the high rise here. that's your commute. the build on the dumbarton. a crash reported in the westbound direction and we see the slowing there over to the high rise so that is a factor now as well as you're traveling 84 to the menlo park. a mild build through san jose. we don't see a lot of slowing to fish ranch road.

not everyone is onboard with this, sharon. >> reporter: that's right, marcus. this is a very active area. you can see traffic picked up and cal train going this morning. housing advocates say they'll pick up. the idea is to bring more housing around transit stations. those plans on include taking away parking and raising concerns about congestion in nearby areas. housing advocates say they'll push for cal train to apply all parcels open to housing instead of a small fraction that's now slated under the policy. first work with housing developers who commit to 100% housing -- affordable housing. provide at least 30% affordable housing. one of the renters said he's paying $3,700 a month for rent.

here are the top stories on "today in the bay." a new round of gun violence on a bay area freeway. this is the third shooting within a week on a bay area interstate including two on 880 within the past 24 hours. one on 580 in oakland on sunday. the latest 880 shooting happened a little after 10:00 last night. that's when chp officers in oakland found a car sprayed with bullets near the 23rd avenue northbound on ramp. yesterday morning we brought you live breaking news coverage of a shooting in fremont. no one was injured in any of the shootings. the deadly b.a.r.t. stabbing trial resumes later this morning in oakland. john lee cowell accused of killing nia wilson in 2018 and critically injuring her sister. cameras are not allowed in the courtroom but cowell had to be removed in opening statements for repeatedly interrupting prosecutors. jurors also saw gruesome surveillance video of the attack. a judge later allowed cowell to

be returned to that area when the defense took over. new this morning a new gondola is on track. the "l.a. times" reports that a lawsuit seeking to block construction has been dismissed. part of the agreement will allow the resorts to conserve 27 acres of wildlife habitat and the gondola rerouted away from the willeder. wilderness. a live look at the cal train station in san carlos where it's possible a commuter village may sit one day. that's the idea behind a plan considered today. board members will vote on developing affordable housing in areas around stations on the peninsula. housing advocates would like to see cal train open all of its land parcells for housing. transit villages take away
