this is a current view right now of the golden gate bridge. look at that. not too bad for a saturday morning. we have some areas of cloud, but we can expect a lovely day ahead. this is a view of downtown san jose. it's chilly in some spots so bundle up. down to the south they are in the 40s and santa cruz 39 degrees and san francisco is 50 degrees because of cloud cover. it's 39 in napa anda few degree cooler. is going to stick to the north of us, but what's going to aavrity of any sort of rain happen as the system continues to make its move and begins to move inland, we're going to see the winds kicking up tomorrow and also a drop in our temperatures, our day time highs. if you are enjoying these above normal temperatures, go out and get about it today because look at the temperatures. 68 degrees in san jose. we have a couple of 70s to the
7:44 am
interior valleys like concord. 64 degrees in oakland. 62 in san francisco. we can expect these warmer temperatures for today and then we have a roller coaster. as that system continues to pass to our north, by tomorrow we're going to get a little bit of a wind event kicking up late tomorrow, but it's going to drop our temperatures down into the 50s. no rain in sight, which is good when it comes to enjoying the outdoors. however, this is the latest california drought monitor that was released earlier this week. you can see the colors here. the yellow colors shows abnormally dry and this darker yellow shows areas of drought. at least 10% of california is in a drought and 40% is abnormally dry. we need the rain. right now the long range outlook isn't showing rain for february so march is our best bet. what comes into play when we're talking about the brought is the sierra snow pack.
7:45 am
because we haven't seen any systems, we've lost about half of that snow pack we had in november and december. we're about 58% of state average. this makes up one-third of our water supply during spring and summer. that snow melt helps to fill up reservoirs during the summer months. no rain in sight for our outlook. here is the next seven days. tomorrow afternoon the temperatures will dip and the winds will pick up. monday we're talking about windy conditions and high pressure begins to roll in to warm our temperatures up. this is a dry wind event. no rain, but it is going to kick up the higher elevations. it's not going to be as wind as last sunday. 63 degrees by tuesday and then dry and sunny for the rest of the week leading into next friday as well with 64 degrees. >> thanks. it is 7:46. still ahead. imagine doubling the down payment on a home.
7:48 am
making it in the bay, back to our coverage of the bay area housing crisis. one of the biggest hurdles in buying a home is the down payment. some are getting creative to help families overcome that hurdle. we look at the nontraditional approach to home buying. >> reporter: let's look at how tough the math is. the median price of a home around the bay area is around
7:49 am
$1 million. with most mortgages you need 20% down and when you run the math you need about a $200,000 down payment. that figure right there is way out of reach for most families to swing on their own. so now some groups are offering a home buyin the background. it's quiet. >> reporter: lisa is about to celebrate one year in a home of her own. after years of moving and moving and moving. >> then to san jose. trying to dodge the rent increases. >> reporter: finally landing this fully remodelled three bedroom, she achieved the impossible, she bought a house on a public school teacher's salary. >> i fell like a tricked the bay area housing, absolutely. >> reporter: she bought with the
