temperatures mild, in the upper 40s as we step out of the door and then we'll see sunshine and warming temperatures again this afternoon. another springlike day. we'll talk about rain chances in the forecast and what is is a head in a few minutes. mike you're out on the roads with a look at so far some just one area that we have to watch. >> everything else is green. looks great. but the area in san jose is a full freeway closure. southbound 101 all lanes are closed at bernal road near the 85 merge southbound toward morgan hill and san martin. a crash and minor injuries but debris and cars across lanes. monterey road picking up volume and more slowing. we'll track that. you should join back up this there with with -- we'll track of the south bay. i have another issue tarj north and i'll cover that in a second. >> thanks, mike.

now to developments in the coronavirus. more than 170 people quarantines at controversy air force base in fairfield will finally get to go home. they're part of the first wave of people being monitored at the military installation. they're expected to be released and reunited this morning. so far the virus has killed nearly 1900 people worldwide and has infected more than 72,000. thom jensen is at travis air force base with more on the release coming up in about 30 minutes. the search continues for the missing palo alto couple who disappeared. >> search crews are facing a big challenge in the north bay. looking for 77-year-old carol kiparsky and 72-year-old husband ian irwin. the couple was reported missing on saturday with when they failed to check out of the inverness airbnb and left behind hiking gear and phones and car. the last time anyone spoke with either of them was on iday

when ian text his son. >> he was going to come down and watch my son play a game on monday. we were just arranging he had e coming back. >> and they are confident that the couple is not within a mile and a half of the airbnb. happening now, a popular park in the south bay is still shut down this morning. following a mountain lion attack. ranges believe the animal injured a 6-year-old girl at a rancho san antonio preserve in cupertino on sunday. a family friend was able to tight the mountain lion off. and the park will remain closed until the mountain lion is located and captured. it is the first mountain lion attack ever at the park. 4:33. dangerous streets in the city. a hope to make arrested in a side show that involved more than a hundred people at 10:00

at geneva in the excelsior neighborhood. the side shows are coming to san francisco because other bay area cities are cracking down and calling for san francisco police to follow suit. >> we're talking being seizing vehicles to inhibit their ability to do this again. >> police say there is alsos body cam video and part of the reason they didn't make arrests at the time because they were simply outnumbered. today l.a. counted leaders want to hold utilities more accountable for safety violations. the district attorney and other leaders are pushing a new bill in a news conference later today. the utility accountability and wildfire prevent act of 2020 aims to give attorneys enforcement power if they don't comply withhe deadly 2018. safeway workers plan to rally outside of a store in the midst of stalled contract talks. the union said workers have

authorized the strike and in the latest move the union canceled the most recent contract extension. safeway issued a statement saying it is committed to more negotiations. right now there are no new talks underway. today's rally takes place outside of a store in belmont. 4:35 and we're tracking the bay area housing crisis and our special coverage "making it in the bay." one peninsula city is looking at a state law to create more affordable housing. >> the city of san mateo is looking to increase the number of housing units. new bills said the projects could be bigger regardless of what local guidelines ahow. already in downtown a five story building on east fourth avenue under the new state law the building could be turned into a seven-story building with over 200 unites for low income familiesndr to add another stor today milpitasout creating .

global economy. china is a major manufacturing center for sectors and many companies. on friday stocks were unchanged but the dow and the nasdaq and s&p 500 all rose for the second straight week. on today's watch list a report on housing and earning from walmart. pier 1 imports filed for chapter pursuing a possible sale after they will close nearly half of the locations in the u.s. and canada and cut an unspecified number of jobs. it has begun going out of business sales. pier 1 expected to keep remaining stores open and online during the bankruptcy process. and a new free service supported by adds at the red box mobile app. the service called free live tv is similar to oths offering as well as general categories such as comedy, viral videos and entertainment news. red boxes has experiments with a

of the day. so as you head out of your morning commute, no problem with fog in antioch. temperatures in the upper 40s through about 8:00 and then seeing it warming up as with we go through the day. it won't be as warm as yesterday. but still pretty nice. so we're making lanes to get outside. just a heads up, you probably already know this if you suffer from allergies, we have a high amount of tree pollen, mostly pine trees are blooming now with all of the warm and dry weather. and then as we go through the lunchtime tempera danville. at noon. and novato at about 62 degrees p and then we reach into the upper 60s of the microclimate and a few spots will reach 70 degrees and then start to come back down, going into the evening and heading into tomorrow morning we start out in the lower 40s. so here is what is going on in the wide view our satellite, the

fog has been kept from developing and we'll see a couple of more disturbances poving in and the rain for the most part dries up before it gets here. still looking at a change in our pattern. we're not seeing the strong dominant high pressure that kept it dry. so we may have some rain chances in the forecast by next week. we know that right now is usually our wettest time of the year in january and measuring least 2 1/2 inches of rain and then heading into time of very dry weather. we're hoping that we could at least get a normal amount of rain for the month of march. because as you could see here, we continue on the next seven days with some dry weather and even that slight chance we had on sunday doesn't look like it will happen. and mike, with we still have one highway closure. that is right. it is not highway 101. that is reopened down here in san jose. we have one lane open and there is debris and it sounds like one of the cars involved hit the barrels, the yellow barrels at

the off-ramp where the roadway splits so there is clean-up there as well. i don't know how long this will take. it is counter commute as folks head down toward the merge with with 85. north toward san jose that is your commute direction and that is moving smoothly. we'll talk about not this one but the next crash, farther north, this is over at woodside. it is not a crash, it is wires down. this is highway 84 at 35 near alice's restaurant, the area just noticed woodside and that is just fine o he at 35. the wires are down. pg&e said they have nobe there probably all m they could de-charge the line and then clear it from the the roadway. so use caution. there is likely traffic control on the scene. and there then the lanes on the left. we have one yet to open. back to you. >> tanks, mike. >> production is now on hiatus for the price of right in the violent death of drew carey's ex

being allowed to go up in some of these threatened flood zones. according to state planners, this area could see a rise in sea level of between 6 and 12 inches by 2030, just ten years from thousand. scientists say the rate of sea level rise is know growing exponentially because of an increase in ice melt and warming of the oceans. >> what does the public need to understand about this crisis? >> that there is no longer any way to stop it happening. >> even so, ove it orurrent developments worth more than $13 billion that are still going up in these high-risk flood zones where planners know that sea level is rising faster than first predicted. tonight at 11:00 we go directly to the people responsible for green lighting these projects to find out why this is being allowed. and we map it all out for you to show you what sea level rise

we'll have the latest on his condition coming up. amazing all they do to strap them in and keep them safe. boy a traffic nightmare. >> and one to talk about. you have a back-up that we're starting to see. >> and it is not like that. not like a fiery crash but a crash involving a big rig and they have currently all of the lanes in the last couple of minutes closed. this is westbound 80. i'll jump in front of the camera to see this. what is going on over here is you see this silhouette, you see that, that is an axle from the rig as far as i understand. i believe the rig is over here. this is westbound 80 coming toward the bay bridge. traffic is jammed up. folks are stuck in the back-up. but i'm told is that as they get over toward university that it keeps them there getting here and as we get to university they're forced off the freeway. there is university and there is ashby and powell. that means this entire stretch there are a bunch of folks stuck on the freeway until they could open up a lane or two through the area. now you could get over here on the surface streets.
