forecast for you this dark and early in the morning. at least we don't have any really dense fog as we get ready to head out the door. a live look in dublin. we're going to see at least some clear visibility but cool temperatures starting out in the lower 40s here and reaching into the upper 50s. we do have another nice warm-up. mike, you have two two crashes and active scenes. just reduced seconds ago to one, kari, just before i stepped foot in the studio. you see all these green chicklets. traffic was held up where our sensors just begin. we have this traffic out of tracy up until two minutes ago it was red. now the traffic is loose and getting into the merge with 580 that will let more folks into livermore, some slowing where it's clear.

the other issue in the south bay. the freeways themselves moving nicely. a tragic situation overnight. two overnight bad wrecks to tell you about in the south bay. one deadly. a driver died after flipping their car on 680 in san jose. this is a look at the aftermath. you can see officers and firefighters trying to do what they can around 2:30 in the morning. the driver took out an electric sign before flipping the car along jackson road. no word on what may have caused the crash. 1:30 on northbound 17 in los gatos, two cars crashed. one of the drivers might have been going the wrong way. another driver says that he pulled up to the scene and then a motorcycle hit some debris and

crashed. >> some motorcycles slid through. the motorcyclist came sliding to a stop about 25, 30 feet away from me. he had a badly damaged leg. >> police are looking into why one of those drivers might have been going the wrong way. it's 4:33. the winners of a fiery presidential debate in las vegas. you probably saw it here on nbc bay area. the clear target was michael bloomberg. he made his first appearance on the debate stage. one noteworthy exchange when senator elizabeth warren went after him for his business use of nondisclosure agreements. >> mr. mayor, are you willing to release all of those women from those nondisclosure agreements so we can hear their side of the story? >> they signed those agreements and we'll live with it. >> bloomberg supporters gathered at a watch party in walnut

creek. among them san jose mayor sam liccardo. he said he was not surprised by last night's focus on bloomberg. >> he has a large target on his back. >> president trump called his performance the worst in debate history. a terrifying attack in a bay area gym all in the middle of a zumba class. >> bob redell is live for us outside that gym in fremont with more on the suspect who is going before a judge just a few hours from now. just a bizarre story, bob. >> reporter: marcus and laura, the attack happened during a zumba class at the 24-hour fitness behind me in fremont. police say this man, jonathan anderson, walked into that class and without warning attacked a woman who was doing push-ups next to other people. he allegedly pushed her to the ground, pulled down her clothes and tried to sexually assault her.

she screamed for help. another person intervened, followed anderson to the front where employees detained him until police arrived. the gym manager wouldn't talk to us about the incident. some gym members tell us they heard about the attack from other members. one woman says she did hear something directly from management. >> i'm not that afraid to come back because i have to work -- not have to but i like to work out but statement i feel they should put out a notice. >> reporter: police say they have video of the attack from the gym and want to know if there are more victims out there. anderson is 33 year old, a transient, according to police, on probation for dui and grand theft. he did confess to monday night's attack. his first court appearance is on monday. reporting live in fremont, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> thanks for the latest. frightening story there. it's 4:35.

two teenagers accused of gunning down boys in union city will be in court. 18-year-old jason of castro valley and a boy from hayward are charged with killing two boys last november. they were already in jail on other gong related hearings. california is holding several evidentiary hearings trying to exit bankruptcy on july 1st. today's hearing comes one day after a federal judge ripped into pg&e for putting money before safety efforts. lawmakers are making new calls for state takeover of pg&e. governor newsom still has to sign off on the plan before it gets the final approval from the bankruptcy judge. this morning a new effort on

homelessness. >> sonoma county will get ten fema trailers from the state this week to be used as homeless shelters. last month sonoma county evicted 250 people in santa rosa. sfmta making bus rides faster by cutting out the middleman themselves. the move is expected to lessen congestion on san francisco streets. the board is now giving the lead traffic engineer the power to make simple modifications like moving bus stops and adding tow away zones between now and august. muni will focus on ten spots where buses go extremely slow near larkin in san francisco. next, some californians say they can't get a job because of medical needs. the prescription for medical marijuana is keeping them from getting hired. the action one state lawmaker is

temperatures in the upper 30s in napa. 37 in half moon bay. temperatures are all over the place. we'll see how we shape up for the afternoon. that's coming up next. san rafael looks great right now, an easy drive down as far as the speeds are concerned down to the golden gate bridge. we'll talk about the roads getting over here in just a second. good morning, here are today's top business headlines. wall street is set to open up in the red this morning after stocks rose yesterday with the nasdaq and s&p 500 both closing at record highs. investors were encouraged by comments from the fed minutes from last month's fed meeting the u.s. economy is stronger than they expected although they are still keeping a cautious eye on risk such as the coronavirus and tensions in the middle east. mgm resorts says it was a

victim of a data breach following a report claiming details of more than 10 million hotel guests were compromised. they discovered it last summer containing a limited amount of information for certain previous guests. mgm says no password data was involved and the affected guest have is been notified. the information exposed was related to guest names and phone numbers. mgm says it has since upgraded network security. an illinois draft house is expanding its season pass making it available to everybody. customers get access to one regularly priced movie per day and you can reserve a seat up to a week in advance. smaller to mid sized markets you'll pay about $20 a month. people in the bay have to shell out $30 a month. the wider access is months after movie pass went bankrupt. everything is more expensive in the bay. >> yeah, you tell me.

building up, a lot of snow on the rivers and that's causing that ice to really just build up. and then it blocks the water and caused one of the levees to fail. they're still working on repairing that broken levee. this is something that may cause some flooding as we go into the next couple days in nebraska. really cold temperatures, a lot of ice on the river. and then can you see what it does there as we look at the aerial views. >> beautiful, though. >> it's beautiful and we've had very warm weather here so it's hard to imagine that other parts of the country are dealing with some extreme cold. we'll hear as we start out this morning taking a live look outside it's a clear start so as you're about to make your way out the door in antioch expect temperatures in the low 40s and another warm-up today with the mostly sunny sky. we will see more high clouds moving in, but it's still going to warm up nicely. a look at all of our micro climates and see how our day

shapes up. we head through 11:00 and we're at 60 degrees in danville. san mateo at 56 degrees. going into early this afternoon some mid to upper 60s but a few spots will reach the low 70s in san jose as well as morgan hill. and then tonight we're going to drop back into the mid-40s for the most part so a milder night due to more clouds moving in. you can see the clouds that will be arriving and staying with us through the day tomorrow. some of the models hinting at a chance of spotty light rain due to the system moving in but the rain chances very slight and not nearly enough to help us get caught up to where we should be in terms of rain. as we head to saturday there will be rain just to our south as this moves into southern california as well as nevada there will be some of that rain moving in there. a couple more storm systems dropping in but a lot staying to

the north. it looks like even now going into next week that rain will be missing the bay area. here is where we stand talking about our rainfall totals. we haven't measured any. the last time was in 1864 where we didn't get a drop of rain all month long and that was also a leap year where we had the extra day. here as we go through the forecast, very warm temperatures. we could see highs in the mid-70s by next wednesday. some south bay commuters may have a distraction. >> we talked about the deadly crash. the south bay freeways are moving smoothly but still a crew there just off 680. we are looking at the crews, bright lights may be a distraction for those traveling around the bend.

traffic is very light. feel follow this and i'll let you know if there are any complications. the rest of the freeways are moving nicely. up at the top by my head westbound 580 as folks who were held up in tracy, they have cleared up because they are moving into livermore. that's your standard commute. the san mateo bridge, no problems now. visibility is great and that flow is nice as well. over to the peninsula side with that expansion project. they're working on the lanes overnight to make it better during the day. over here the bay bridge toll plaza has the cash lanes with the backup, pretty sizable now. we should see things sort out as they open the last of the lanes for cash. nurses and doctors save lives. across the state many of them fear for their own safety as hospitals report thousands of assaults on employees every year. >> investigative report looking into the troubling issue.

>> reporter: we're talking about violent attacks on medical staff but unpredictable patients. there is a law requiring hospitals to protect employees, many say it's not working and their calls for protection are being ignored. this person witnessed how dangerous the job can be when a patient went on a rampage destroying property and equipment including this white lexus. >> we shouldn't have to jeopardize our own safety for it. >> reporter: we spoke to nurses across the state. we'll show you what our full investigation found and whether the new safety regulations are making any difference. nbc bay area news. >> contact our investigative unit by logging on to our website. california lawmakers are expected to consider a bill aimed at making it easier for people to get a job.

east bay assemblyman proposing a plan to accommodate applicants who cannot pass drug tests due to their use of medical marijuana. if it passes to both the public and private sectors it would not include employers who must comply with federal drug laws. today the california general assembly will hear a resolution that would apologize for the state's role in imprisoning japanese-americans in internment camps in world war ii. >> they were forced to relocate and sent to camps. they are pushing for a formal apology, wants to ensure history does not repeat itself. >> the same fear of the other. >> executive director is also weighing in saying in part, quote, hopefully this resolution will help to make the public

aware this injustice occurred and we hope it will unite others to stand up for their rights and not let this happen again. 4:52 this morning. a spa day adds stress to a bay area woman's life. next on "today in the bay" our consumer unit steps in to help her out. the city named the fastest growing in the state this morning. and what it has to offer. but first, happening now, the american red cross and cancer society are putting out a call for donors. the campaign is called give blood, give time. cash is needed because 1.8 million americans will be diagnosed with cancer this year. and for many blood transfusions will be key in their fight towards recovery.
