for one thing. we're starting out with dense fog. that is our dublin camera and it is hard to see anything at this point so make sure you are slowing down the drive through the tri-valley this morning. our temperatures are in the mid-40s and then we'll see some sun peaking out and all clear for the afternoon. as we head into the 60s, we'll get a closer look at the forecast coming up. mike is tracking a crash in the south bay. >> i am. and just one popped up here on the map and i'll find out around menlo park as well. but it is southbound 101. you see green sensors all over the bay but the fog, the little visibility there in the tri-valley. and it is southbound 101 at blossom hill. it is just a note. as you're traveling south, you may see a set of headlights. that is not a wrong-way driver but a car that spun out and hit the shoulder and went off the roadways, the headlights might be alarming to folks heading down 101 toward the 85 merge and

toward morgan hill. northbound is fine. across the bay bridge, nothing surprising, we'll check it out in a couple of minutes. back to you. well in just hours thousands will be gathering to honor and remember kobe bryant, his daughter gigi and seven others who died in a helicopter crash in the hills outside of los angeles. >> jay gray is outside of staples center in los angeles where the sale will take place. >> reporter: merchandise line the streets of los angeles. city still mourning. >> i can't believe it. >> reporter: the loss of a hero. >> his hustle, his heart, his drive, his passion for the game. >> reporter: the passion for kobe bryant, his daughter gigi and sen others lost last month. >> we have lost a family member. >> reporter: was clear from the moment the chopper went down officials say i 250,000 or more gathered outside of the arena

will decide whether to stop more than 50 virus patients from being quarantined in costa mesa. city leaders said they were not included in the decision by federal authorities to move from travis air force base and the hospitals in california can't hold all of the infected and noninfected patients. coronavirus concerns impacting the san francisco convention dollars. the rsa cybersecurity conference which kicks off today will likely be lower. corporate sponsors in companies like verizon and ibm are backing out. more than 40,000 people are expected to attend. a former director of the heart of san francisco's city hall probe is give plenty of information to work with. federal agents arrested mohammed nuru last month. he was still on the payroll with public works and since then prosecutors have served ten subpoenas on companies and nonprofits including pg&e and

recology and it is likely nuru's cooperation will help him if he is convicted and sentenced. and meeting today for parents, staff of and the community, as experts continue to test air in mcclymonds high school. after tce was found in the ground water. the chemical could become airborne but the air inside of the school is safe. there are two update meetings happening today at west oakland middle school. students are scheduled to return to class on tuesday or wednesday at the location yet to be determined. 4:36 this morning. and now to our coverage of "making it in the bay." focus it on bay bridge houbay a

crisis. over in the north bay the governor wants to sent up emergency homeless centers on a piece of land in santa rosa. the press democrat reports that the governor's plan is to make shelters on the open space between farmer's lane and spring lake regional park. the land is owned by caltrans. it is all part of the governor's plan to convert nearly 300 sites across california into homeless shelters. santa rosa city council still needs to approve the governor's offer. well super tuesday is about a week away. still ahead this morning on "today in the bay," there is a new mace to cast your ballot. they are called vote centers and the way that they are different from your average polling place. plus more options at the grocery store. beyond meat facing more competition. new kind of plant-based meat you can soon try. and a look at bay bridge toll plaza back-up starting to form this morning. mike will get us through the monday morning commute coming up in just a bit. 4:37, you're watching "today in the bay."

right now at 4:40, temperatures starting out mild for most of us with low to mid-40s as you head out of the door and we're also tracking some fog. i'll talk more about this and a warm-up in the forecast coming up in a few minutes. and just saw the flashing lights. told you we'd check out the crash on the peninsula. well right here at willow, it is traveling north and i'll let you know what the report said and the latest on our camera live.

good morning, i'm frank holland at cnbc headquarters. wall street is said to be opening lower with a fall more than 2.5% on global market fears as the number of coronavirus cases outside of china continues to spike. asian markets took a hit overnight. europe deep in the red this morning led lower by italy. oil is falling on worries the virus could hit demand for fuel. investors are seeing area of safety such as the u.s. dollar, treasury bonds and gold which is now at a seven-year high. wall street is already coming off a thegive week with a major average snapping a two week winning streak. cargo will launch plant based hamburgy patties in april. demand for meat alternative has soared as consumers add plant based protein for diet for health reasons and concerns for

animal welfare and the environmental impact from livestock farming. they will offer it restaurants in ground based products. and krispy kreme will start delivery nationwide on leap day, that is february 29th. the chain will deliver donuts by the box and coffee via door dash with a $4.99 delivery fee and order through the app. there is a catch. you have to be within 10 miles to get that delivery. hopefully you guys will meet that threshold. >> i do. there is one not far from me. >> do you? well then you just deliver them on over here. >> bring to work. >> right. keep that process. sent to you and then bring them in. >> i went how we went from fake meat to donuts. >> right. good transition. trying to be healthy no not even

>> let's go take a dip. >> that will wake you up. >> wake you up in the morning. >> would rather stick with coffee. >> 4:46 this morning and let's get the day started off right with a look at the forecast. >> it is cool in the bay area as we head out and then a clear sky as we look in san jose. we're seeing the fog drifting around some areas and then as you get ready to head out of the door in oakland, we'll see a few more clouds mixing in. temperatures in the upper 40s through about 7:00. and then a clearing sky will lead to a nice day at noon and at 58 degrees and reaching 67 in oakland and low 70s for livermore and in san jose. the temperatures still above normal. and as you check out that seven-day forecast, at the bottom of the screen, more springlike weather throughout the week. let's all dry as we look at what what is happening across the region. we did rain around the central coast and farther to the south and this system arriving as we

go into the next couple of days, still not a lot of rain. here is where all of the rain is right now. and we have this big storm system rolling across the southeast and there is a lot of mardi gras celebrations across the south. so we'll see this over the next couple of days but high pressure is in control here. keeping it warm and dry. but there will be some changes ahead by the the end of the weekend. it looks like we could see at least some spotty showers moving in and we know we've seen this over and over again by the time it gets here, it just dries out. so we'll see how this shapes up. but we know that we're right now in the wettest time of the year. we should be measuring less rain than in january so we've been seeing not a drop of rain all month as we head into march we're normally seeing at lyft fi -- at least five inches for the bay area but we'll see if that pans out. so as with we look at temperatures warming up, hitting

78 degrees as temperatures peak this thursday. mike, how are the roads moving. moving well. but i told you we would check out the flashing lights traveling north 101. so no lanes on the freeway are blocked but the crash was at the whipple off-ramp and all lanes are cleared according to chp and our view. so heading off the freeway in menlo park, that is fine getting to amazon and facebook. and here is university and the off-ramp. anything to and from the dumbarton bridge is fine on both sides of the bay and all of the bridges look great. southbound south 101 at blossom hill activity is your commute into the south bay. through the north bay, overnight starting tonight from 4:00 to 6:00 a.m. tomorrow morning there is closures far the merritt island causeway bridge and it will be closed for a couple of hours for a couple of weeks but you could still use highway 37 and it does back-up just before

6:00 when we reopen the causeway which is an alternate for locals in the area and that is going on and then the crash if oakland north 880 at 29, lanes are fine as far as speed goes. we'll double check when chp arrives. two 13-year-old boys were accused of setting a fire that killed a friday. they were spotted running from the library shortly after the flames started. initially both were charged with manslaughter. two were killed when the town library went up in flames last week. new overnight, a high-speed chase broke up an otherwise quiet night in southern california. when the the suspect tried to run over an officer in burbank and drove back to an apartment complex in whittier where he barricaded himself in his home. at last check the suspect was still barricaded inside of his

home. take a look at this jeep destroyed. that suv barely recognizable after it was driven off the sixth floor of a parking lot in santa monica and police are trying to figure out if the driver did it on purpose the l.a. times reported two passengers in the jeep were able to jump out before it went off the roof. the driver was taken to the hospital and in critical condition. police are trying to figure out if drugs or alcohol were a factor. and a friendly reminder if you plan to vote in the primary election, super tuesday is nearly one week away. so far more than a million california voters have sent in their ballot through the mail. but you may be able to use vote center, new for our area, with 15 across the state including in santa clara county. these are brand-new. voters could cast ballot any time between now and march 3rd. the vote centers also have translators that could guide voters in their native language. >> california is finally voting in march instead of june.

so we'll have more input on who our candidates are for the nevada election. >> now mail your ballot in on election day as long as it is post marked by march 3rd. 4:52 this morning and nbc bay area investigates. for years ships in the bay area have been told to slow down. this is to avoid hitting endangered whales. >> but our unit learned most are speeding right past the request and now whales are dying off our coast. tonight bigad shaban dives in why shipping companies won't slow down. one reason, some may have never heard about the suggested speed limit. >> how is it that four years after this policy went into affect there are shipping companies that claim they have no idea about these speed restrictions? >> there are shipping companies that probably haven't been into the port here in four years. and so how do you reach those?

good morning. andrea rayes has gotten two different mattresses with wound up with black spots on the bottom. after the second time she asked store for money back and they declined and so she got in touch with us. they paid her a home visit and offered her a refund of $1,092. we asked the management for a statement but he and did respond with one. the fophotos supported her case but we would hike to see one more showing the condition of the mattresses the day she had taken delivery so whenever you buy a big-ticket item like a
