but still to rain here as we go through the next few days. but we're seeing dense fog and this is a look live in dublin. so as you drive through the tri-valley, just a heads up. they're still rushing through 580 looking at that shot. we're going to see temperatures in the mid-40s. look at that, 43 degrees. heading up to 64 by 1:00. and mike has a crash may be blocking a bridge. >> you having fog on 580 and i have from richard to san rafael and that is the bridge we're talking about and the first update talked about six vehicles in a crash mid span westbound is your commute direction and the sense kwors were lit up red and they've turned to orange and yellow and it is a noninjury crash and we'll bring you an update. and we'll monitor that and the rest of the bay is green though. laura, back to you. >> thank you so much. it is 5:01. two missing palo alto hikers almost every believed this died are very much alive this

morning. they're continuing recovery after being rescued over the weekend in marin. pete suratos joins us live outside of the hospital. are they getting any better idea when these people might be able to come home? >> reporter: good morning. it could be a few days before their home but they're recovery continues behind me here at this at hospital in marin county and you mention it is a miracle they survived this whole ordeal. here are pictures of the couple recovering in the hospital. you see there carol kiparsky and ian irwinive palo alto both in their 70s were rescued on saturday after spending eight days in the dense vegetation of marin county and they have had no food or water near their rental in inverness. they did have dense oak and they ate off of a fern and may have drank from a puddle to stay

alive. here is members of the rescue team recounting the story in more detail. >> they went out for a literally 10 minute walk and it got dark all of a sudden and it got difficult to see and then the next thing they know it they couldn't reallyine see their hand in front of their face and so they transitioned to crawling. >> now as far as injuries go, they did suffer hypothermia and dehydration and cuts and scrapes. the family said the couple did meet with the rescuers and are forever grateful for their dedication but they are expected to remain in the hospital for the next few days. reporting live, pete suratos for "today in the bay." >> thanks for that update. 5:03 this morning and decision 2020 and south carolina is the next stop after nevada caucuses on saturday. and the democratic contenders will debate tomorrow night before the polls next saturday. tracie potts is live with a closer look at what to expect.

well happening now, president trump and the first lady are in india for two-day stay. here is new video from an hour ago showing the first family visiting the taj mahal. the president attended a rally at largest cricket stadium in northwest india. tens of thousands people were there and a lot of people there. we have more coverage of the president's visit throughout our newscast. >> 5:06 now. testimony will wrap up tomorrow in the deadly b.a.r.t. stabbing trial. john lee cowell has pled not guilty by reason of insanity for killing nia wilson on a b.a.r.t. platform in 2018. her sister was critically injured. defense rested the case on thursday. prosecutors will likely call several rebuttal witnesses before handing the case to jurors. and new chaotic scenes playing out on the streets of san francisco. this is as more side show activity wakes up neighbors and

leaves neighborhoods trashed. it was really a hard time as people expressing their frustration with the police response. "today in the bay's" kris sanchez live in the city and what are police saying about all of this? >> reporter: well, marcus, police say they were there at all of the side shows that erupted overnight and our videos certainly proves that point. if you take a look, we have soed of officers responding there. this is the upper market at market and clayton street, one of the side shows and one in the mission direct at 23rd street and delores, hundreds gathered there to watch the dangerous maneuvers just in the richmond district at geary and third avenue. the side shows had 50 to 100 vehicles and started just after midnight near candlestick park and continues for hours. wat watching the police take no action they say is worse. >> reporter: it is frustrating

as a resident to wake up at 2:00 a.m. to the sound of mayhem and not have the police intervene. it seemed like complete lawlessness on the streets. >> reporter: but san francisco police told us in a statement we will be working to determine the identity of the persons and vehicles participating in the side shows and will use all legal resources to prosecute those involved. now officers did not write any tickets or make any arrests on the spot. but they did shoot video and they took notes describing the people who with were in attendance. s as you likely know, these are hard to track. the participants and the spectators and the drivers and they organize via social media and they pop up and dissipate by the time law enforcement arrives. the fact that san francisco police were there and observing and writing down data could be a way that they are going to crack down at a later date. kris sanchez, "today in the bay." >> all right, chris, thanks for that. and 5:08 now.

it looks like it is back to the drawing board for palo alto to improve safety for bicyclist. they opened a bike boulevard on ross and east meadow drive when a roundabout was put in to make the roads more bike friendly but the neighbors say it isn't helping. there is more bike traffic which causes more crashes and involving cyclists and motorists. tonight the city council will discuss what kind of improvements could be made to reduce the bike boulevard traffic flow. distract victims may be eligible to delay payment on property taxes. the state controller announced the program available for people in santa clara, san mateo, marin and sonoma county. applications will be approved on a first come first serve basis and there is a 7% interest rate on any taxes that postponed. as we come up on 5:10 now.

it is very chilly in the north bay. look at the team -- the temperatures dropping in napa. and it is 48 in oakland and 44 in san jose. i've seen fog drifting around. but it is mainly clear in martinez. so as you head out of the door, we see a lot of sunshine. temperatures from the low 40s to the upper 60s by early this afternoon. reaching 71 in concord and 70 in livermore. 72 today in santa rosa. we'll talk about rain chances ahead. but mike is getting better news out of richmond. for folks traveling across the north bay using the richmond-san rafael bridge you can do that without too much of a worry. there was no back-up that forms here on the richmond side but that is the potential as with we saw this stack up for the delays across the westbound commute. a crash involving six vehicles has cleared. the last of them just cleared. so the ing is changing for the grammar for those in school.

>> interesting advice. all right. let me give you advise this morning. watch out for fog in the tri-valley. but it is going to be clear in cupertino. a jacket this morningment but then as we warm up short sleeves again today. a lot of sunshine. so make sure you have the glasses with you for that afternoon drive. let's get a look at our microclimates as we see our temperatures at noon reaching the upper 50s in san francisco. 63 in fremont. and 64 in livermore. napa up to about 68 degrees but warming up even more from there. we're going to go see some low to mid-70s in some of the inland valleys for this afternoon. and you could see that we'll see more weather like this as we go throughout the week. cooling down tonight back into the 40s. here is a look at our wide view of what is happening, what is coming our way and not a whole lot here. it going to take several days before the clouds come in. but look at the all of the wet

weather over the midwest and the south. of course a lot of mardi gras celebrations going on so it is looking soggy in parts of the south. while we will continue on with some dry weather going into the rest of the week as this high pressure builds and gives us some more clear skies but there will be some changes next week and it looks like we could start to see some rain moving in. we know this trend. we see rain in the forecast and then it dries up before it gets here. so we'll see if this actually pans out. but we're dry over the next few days and more sunshine and some warming temperatures as we see some upper 70s. now heading over to mike. the bay bridge report has been confirmed. that is right. we thought the metering lights were turned on and indeed they were just as we reported the back-up. and we've seen it build in the last five, ten minutes, forming in the fast track lanes and manageable for cash and starting to jam up as they're all open.

ordered people who have tested positive for the coronavirus and who are quarantined here at travis, they've been ordered to leave the base. because there aren't enough hospital beds in our area to give them the kind of specialized care they need. the fed plan is to send up to 50 people to the fairview developmental center 400 miles south in costa mesa for the state runs a facility for mental disabilities and they have enough room but the city of costa mesa didn't want the people in the area ought of concern for resident safety. so that city went to court and a judge did stop the move from the people from travis down to their area. a hearing is scheduled for this afternoon to figure out whether or not those people here at travis could go down to costa mesa. reporting live in fairfield outside of controversy air force base, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> thank you. more details this morning. coronavirus concerns are

impacting san francisco's convention dollars. the rsa cybersecurity conference which kicks off today will likely be lower in attendance. corporate sponsors like verizon and ibm have now backed out. more than 40,000 people are expected to attend. and happening today, leaders at oakland's mcclymonds high school plan to update parents and students and staff about the discovery of toxic ground water. the school was shut down after a discovery of a chemical called tce which causes cancer. it could ll also become airborne but the surrounding air is reported as safe. two meetings held today at 8:30 and the other at 5:30 p.m. at west oakland middle school. students are scheduled to return tomorrow or wednesday at a yet to be determined location. 5:34 now. a difficult morning is ahead in los angeles. thousands will gather in a few

we'll check in with mike in a few minutes. looking at visibility down to about a quarter of a mile in the tri-valley. about half of a mile in napa and then check out san martin where we've seen the most dense fog this morning, down to zero. if you are heading out to the hiking trails, we'll start out with fog there. but it will be clearing as temperatures warm up going throughout the morning and a sunny and breezy day. it is going to be perfect for spending more time outside. we're up to 70 in san jose. 72 in santa rosa. and 62 in san francisco. and our dry weather continues over the next few days. not a whole lot headed our way. even as we look at the line of clouds moving in toward the end of the week, into the weekend. but there will be changes ahead. high pressure finally starting to move on. it will push off toward the east and then allow for some of the storm systems to the north to dip in. now we're going to see this as with we go next week, possibly bringing in rain. tienl -- finally for the beginning of march after a dry
