bryant spoke we also learned vanessa bryant filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the helicopter company saying they should not have been flying in that weather but it was all about remembering those nine lives that were lost here frances, back to you >> all right, miguel, thank you. >> the death toll from the deadly coronavirus continues to grow this morning. it now stands at over 2600 with most in mainland china but new hot spots are popping up in south korea, iran and italy the outbreak is having a global effect on travel, wall street and more while the u.s. is dealing with a relatively low number of cases compared to other countries, the white house is asking for money to help combat the spread of the virus. for more on the outbreak we turn to nbc's kelley cobiella who is live for us in seoul, south korea. kelly, how much is the president asking for here? >> reporter: phillip, good morning. well, the white house is asking for $2.5 billion from congress to help fight the coronavirus. more than a billion of that going toward developing a new

vaccine. the president tweeting about the fight overnight from his trip in india, saying we are in contact with everyone and all relevant countries, cdc and world health has been working hard and are very smart stock markets starting to look very good to me. of course, stocks globally are shaken by this outbreak as the dow jones had its worst day in nearly two years yesterday dropping a thousand points and the state department has now put out a new warning for people traveling to this country, south korea, advising against nonessential travel here because of what they call a widespread community ransmission. the outbreak here in south korea is centered around the city southeast of here, 180 miles from seoul cases jumped again overnight to nearly a thousand now. 977 cases of coronavirus and two more deaths overnight sadly, total of ten deaths from the virus so far here.

among those infected is a korean air crew member. globally, the deaths are now -- cases -- the cases are now well over 77,000. 77,600 worldwide and most concerning to the world health organization are these infections in italy, iran, 12 deaths there, and here in south korea. they are calling these outbreaks, quote, deeply concerning phillip? >> all right, kelly cobiella with the latest on the coronavirus. kelly, thank you >> from global health to the global economy, the coronavirus outbreak is also affecting wall street, sending stocks plunging and investors scrambling after a spike in the number of reported cases outside of mainland china. here's nbc's tom costello with what you need to know. >> reporter: on wall street, a sea of red the dow down more than a thousand points. 3.5% >> an ugly day for wall street, the worst we've seen for stocks
