we're going to see those temperatures warming up. a look at our south bay highs. something more like what we feel during late spring, early summer. we'll talk more about this and what's ahead in the forecast, mike, you're seeing something happening out of the altamont pass. >> not eggs, rigs. just got word from chp they were not involved in a crash, two of them may be disabled but they're clearing as we speak. there's a little slowing but that's typical coming off the merge. moving over to the sunol grade. 880, southbound at whipple should be clear as well. i'll let you know if it's sticking around. heading over to the bay bridge where the backups are not there yet at the toll plaza.

a wrongway crash in the south bay and the damage left behind. it seems to have involved an suv and a pickup truck highway 85. both drivers were taken to the hospital. one with major injuries. there was also a dog in one of the cars that was hurt. we begin with new developments in the coronavirus scare. japan's prime minister is requesting schools be shut down through next month. >> saudi arabia also suspending travel to holy cities, mecca for people outside of the country, all new efforts to contain the virus. at last check more than 82,000 cases worldwide. at least 2,800 people have died, most of them in china. 60 cases are confirmed in the united states. and a california case from solano county being watched extremely closely because it may be the first incident in which a person was infected in the community not outside the u.s.

>> my mom's bedroom window is upstairs, and she saw the flash from her bedroom window. >> the fire was put out with a garden house. >> police are doing extra patrols through the neighborhood. an east bay oral surgeon reportedly facing charges tied to child sex crimes. it started with a bizarre incident in walnut creek. according to the east bay times police started investigating dr. cassidy lavorini-doyle when they say he tried to buy a mother's two small girls for $30,000. the investigation uncovered a link to human trafficking and using a minor for a sex act and child pornography. authorities later arrested him after he returned from a trip overseas they believed involved sex with underaged girls. a bankruptcy judge says he'll issue a ruling on whether fema and other agencies can turn into the $13 billion fund for wildfire victims, part of pg&e's bankruptcy settlement deal.

agencies are arguing they're owed $4 billion for wildfire response efforts. the clock ticks down on plans to emerge from bankruptcy. focusing on people in fremont struggling to make it in the bay. homeless people living in rvs back in front of the tesla factory after being forced to move. the east bay times says the city told those people they now have one month before they are permanently removed. fremont councilmembers are still trying to find secure sites possibly in the parking lot behind fremont city hall. so far so good when it comes to a car ban on mark street. >> those are the conclusions drawn from the first study on the ban which took effect about four weeks ago. inrix surveyors found the traffic on side streets is nearly identical to what it was before the closure. as for bicyclists and muni lines

a very good morning to you. taking a live look outside at a beautiful, sparkly look in the south bay. >> would you say it's twinkling? >> i like sparkling. >> sparkle, sparkle little star. didn't see too many stars in that picture there either. >> no. but the sky is clear as you get ready to head out the door. we'll have a lot of sunshine today. a live look in san rafael. at least the fog is staying away, too. we do have clear visibility as temperatures start out at 43 degrees in santa rosa. it's 51 in san francisco. 50 in palo alto and in san jose. as you get ready to head out the door in cupertino, expect it to be in the low 50s by 8:00. a quick warm-up going from 53 to 68 to 77 at 2:00 today. our high temperatures in the south bay reaching 81 degrees in

east san jose, gilroy 81 as well and we're talking about the potential setting new record high temperatures for today's date in concord reaching up to 80 degrees and we're up to 76 in redwood city and san francisco reaching 74 in the mission district and north bay high temperatures up to 78 in novato and we're still looking at a lot of dry weather, in fact, as we wrap up the month most likely it will be the driest february on record since the mid-1800s. and so we're still looking at a lot of the clouds and rain up around canada right now but that will be shifting in as we go into the weekend bringing some changes while we're seeing very cold temperatures and rain and snow across much of the east coast. high pressure that's kept it very warm will start to move on and our winds will get quite gusty going into the weekend as the low dips in. it does give a chance of some sierra snow for the weekend as we go into next week, though, it only looks like a very light

amount of snow. and we're not going to get any rain. we're seeing temperatures going up and then back down. we're going from 80 degrees today to 59 and windy on sunday. big changes ahead. mike, you're checking on those trucks at 580? >> and not tremendous changes because the traffic was flowing on 580. you see the traffic through dublin that's going nicely out of the altamont. two big rigs north flynn road. they have cleared from the roadway as far as chp is concerned it's not a problem. we'll follow that until they completely clear the incident and make sure everything is all clear. just a finy bit of slowing, about 20 minutes from marsh creek road down to 580. your typical drive in that portion of the contra costa county. the rest of the bay shows a smooth drive, the green sensors. at whipple off south 880 is cleared. a smooth drive to the bay bridge. out of san francisco we had road

work around hospital curve. there may be a new incident off 280 extension. we'll get more details once chp arrives on scene. there is slowing here on the left approach, just these lanes. we have only one that's left to open as far as the cash lanes go. this may have happened the last few. when they get toll takers sometimes they have to stop traffic to walk safely. we see the lanes starting to move again. we'll track that closely and will let you know if there are any problems reported. here is the san mateo bridge that's very light right now. back to you. >> thanks, mike. this next story very bizarre. police in los angeles are keeping an eye out for a stolen hearse with a casket and body inside. the black lincoln navigator was stolen in pasadena the keys were left inside as another body was being unloaded. a legal ruling means california may pay a big price

for sanctuary policy. siding with the justice department in a battle over federal grant money for crime fighting. new york city in seven states including california first sued back in 2017. that's when the justice department decided to withhold the money to any city or state refusing to cooperate with isc h i.c.e. now to decision 2020, ahead of super tuesday current democratic front-runner bernie sanders is returning to california. he'll hold a rally in san jose on sunday. a poll last week by the public policy institute of california puts senator sanders as a clear frond runner ahead of next week's vote. with 32% support he made a stop in richmond earlier this month. 4:50 right now and a bay area investigation. the state labor commissioner says some companies owe nearly $2 million in back wages to their workers.

so why is santa clara still doing business with those companies? despite a new ordinance discouraging santa clara county from doing business with companies that fail to pay their workers we found some 3 dozen that have disputes with the state labor department. the state labor commissioner says they owe workers some $2 million for wages those workers already woshgdz. . >> it really is about protecting workers and the businesses doing the right thing against unfair business practices. >> now because this policy is so new young says her office will use what we found in this reporting to help weed out the companies that don't pay their workers. coming up at 11:00, we talked to a worker who still hasn't been paid years after the judgment. and the company owner himself. and we go to those who set

a south bay lawmaker wants to change all that. >> county assemblyman lowe is proposing a bill that would require stores to have gender neutral displays apply to any retailer with more than 500 employees, so big box stores like target and walmart. we asked the shoppers and have gotten mixed reviews. >> even a few years ago but i think it's probably helpful to children, to their families. >> i think it's a wasted time. not that big of a deal. >> if the proposed law goes into effect in three years, retailers would be fined for not going gender neutral. coming up here on "today in the bay," meteorologist kari hall tracking the forecast as we inch closer to the weekend. we will see some changes ahead. very warm now. we're going to see this storm system dipping in to bring parts of the sierra some rain and snow. we'll talk more about that and the sierra snowpack.
