that disabled vehicle combined. >> rough morning. look, let's look ahead to the weekend. we like to do that here on "today in the bay." a nice weekend. >> it was a nice weekend but chilly and i think our temperatures will go up and then back down for the weekend once again. as we look at our trend here, we see our temperatures peaking on wednesday but not like that on saturday. more clouds moving in and highs in some of the warmest spots reaching 63 degrees. and then for san francisco, there is a slight chance we could see spotty light sprinkles, not a significant chance of rain here. if you're going to be heading farther north, there is a better chance of rain in shasta trinity national forest. a heads up there could be showers on friday and then a mix of some rain and snow early on saturday morning before it changes back to rain. and our temperatures only reaching the low 50s for much of the weekend. and we'll stay in the 50s for some of the coastal areas. so santa cruz, looking at highs up to 58 degrees this sunday. we'll get a look at our east bay
6:40 am
temperature trend in three minutes. >> thanks, kari. coming up next on "today in the bay," the krocoronavirus ha lot of folks in the bay area on edge and this morning we're trying to answer some of your most pressing questions about the outbreak. straight ahead, i'm in our coronavirus center with more on what is available for people who are showing symptoms. plus concerns about massive layoffs spark action in one cash-strapped east bay school district. where they believe california voters may help turn the trouble around. a federal court gives the trump administration a setback. all eyes on big board this morning in new york city. just barely to the positive, the ten-year bond or the yield on the ten-year bond at historic lows. that is the danger sign. but dow up 91 points. you're watching "today in the bay." vo: don't fall for negative,

untrue attacks against mike bloomberg. bloomberg has been praised by president obama. obama: he's been a leader throughout the country for the past twelve years. mr. michael bloomberg is here. vo: mike worked with president obama to combat gun violence and improve public education. as president, he'll work to combat inequality by launching a new initiative to spur african american and latino homeownership and small business growth. and he'll beat the divider in chief. bloomberg: i'm mike bloomberg the time is 6:43. and i approve this message. let's head outside in fremont where a light breeze picking up and high winds in the bay area hills. it is warmer this afternoon. as we reach into the upper 60s
6:42 am
and low 70s. more on this and we'll talk more about the wind in less than five minutes. >> right here, too, the kari moved this camera on the rooftop in oakland. looking at the northbound side which also moves porch better. maybe the disabled vehicle not a factor downtown. san jose northbound 101 does show some build past allen rock. we'll talk about what else is going on with a couch. a live look at travis air force base. this is where in just minutes nearly 150 people stick under quarantine for two weeks will finally get to go home. now this comes as five new cases are diagnosed in the bay area. a live look now, good samaritan hospital in san jose. that is where two of the patients remain in icu this morning. well we're here live in the coronavirus crisis center answering your questions, you've been sending us all weekend long. we want to talk about possible virus transmission. a lot of folks are asking if you could pick up the virus from
6:43 am
household items. right now the cdc said there is no evidence that coronavirus can be transmitted via soft services like the jacket you wore to work or carpet at home but it is possible it could live on hard surfaces frequently touched surfaces like a doorknob offer a keyboard. the viral particles would only last for a few hours so the -- the big thing to takeaway is to wipe them down with a disinfectant and plane old water with bleach will do the trick. another topic is treatment options. if you are stick, there is no anti-viral treatment so patients are being increased to increase fluids and bring down fever with tylenol, motrin and what not and in severe cases patients in hospitals might be placed on supplemental oxygen but a note here, 80% of cases are said to be very mild which is why we're hear being people quarantining at home and not heading to the hospital.
6:44 am
so check with your doctor. >> good advice there. >> so around the globe, new travel warnings are in effect and more client flights are suspended. find what that means for your travel at nbcbayarea.com just click on the coronavirus coverage tab on the main page. 6:45, potentially hundreds of pink slips at west contra costa schools. the skrikt -- the district is considering 300 layoffs including 230 teacher jobs. opponents will gather signatures majores of getting a state corporations to help bring billions of dollars to school districts across the state. well this morning the legal battle over funding for president trump's proposed border wall is heating up. the aclu is now asking a bay area judge to stop mr. trump from predirecting milt funds to
6:45 am
the wall at the u.s./mexico border. the trump administration could take $2.5 billion from the military budget to build 100 miles of border wall in arizona, california and new mexico. the head of immigration can't be head of immigration. >> scott mcgrew continues our coverage on this one with. this is a new twist. >> it is an interesting twist but i'm not happy to know this is the coronavirus center. and the department of homeland security did shuffling around how to make it possible for ken cuccinelli to become the head of citizenship and immigration. as well as the deputy director of homeland security. here is cuccinelli. a court said he did not take the immigration job legally. there were laws that prevent anyone from moving up the organization, just anyone. and his appointment from the white house violated something called the federal vacancies reform act. now there are two big takeaways
6:46 am
on all of this. number one, because cuccinelli was not legally in charge, the things he ordered whether it comes to immigration are void. two, how does the white house respond this morning? the courts say he can't sit behind his desk and run his agency when he showed up today. how will the white house respond to the courts? the president said he'll nominate john ratcliffe as the director of national intelligence. this is the second time he's tapped john ratcliffe. they realized he wouldn't make it through senate confirmation because the lack of intelligence experience. but he has to get past the senate intelligence committee first, that will be a tough road even though it has a majority of republicans. on saturday the president and his team addressed the nation with the latest updates on coronavirus. >> this is no reason to panic, at all. this is something that is being
6:47 am
handled professionally. >> now dr. anthony fauci cleared up a very important misunderstanding. he is on your far left of your screen. press reports had seen he had to clear his public statements through the white house. now here is fauci at that press conference kind of hidden. fauci had said he told the press after pence had been appointed the head of the fight against coronavirus, he and the white house agreed he should with draw from appearing on television shows to mak for the vice prnot that he wasn't allowed to speak without permission. they're not muzzling me, he said. and just moments ago the supreme court told us it will hear invo. we'll follow that development. we're on twitter @scott mcgrew. >> thanks, scott. take a look at new video. a shot that probably will help the university of kentucky grad
6:48 am
student especially if he is looking to pay off loans. >> so watch this. he made a shot during yesterday's game in lexington. there he goes. and -- >> whoosh. >> he went wild. we went wild the first time we saw it. he made it on the first try even though he had three chances to do it and he won $10,000 which pays for a decent chunk of student loan debt. >> i bet it does. if he doesn't have student loans -- >> then he's going on vacation. >> i used to live in lexington, home of u.k. basketball. there are some ballers there in lexi lexington. >> wear a white-collared shirt and slacks. >> probably. that is the uniform. >> so we're talking about how different our weather has been here in and it was nice over the weekend. to at least has come up, we
6:49 am
could seeeekend. and we could still see it coating the trees there. and it is dry in the bay area and now we're back to our sunshine. live look outside from emeryville looking toward san francisco. and check out the seven-day forecast. it is already up at the bottom of the screen. in concord as you step out of the door, it will be in the upper 40s. we're going from 47 to 57 within a couple of hours. it is going to heat up fast today. and we're reaching into the low 70s there. up to 70 in livermore. 71 in san jose. oakland up to 72 degrees. and santa rosa will reach 73 degrees today. but it will also be windy. at times our gusts up to 25 to 30 miles per hour. as we go into 1:00 today. and then it may be even higher as we look at the winds and some the hills with the bright colors indicating where we'll have the highest wind gusts. so that includes the coastal areas and then parts of the
6:50 am
diablo range, also the north bay hills but by tonight the winds gradually start to subside and the wind advisory will expire. here is what is going on. so we see the storm track way to the north. but we're now starting to see high pressure build. and then the low that was just across southern california, that also brought the sierra some snow, that is moving away as high pressure pushes in, you have this pressure gradient, that makes the air flow fairly quickly across the region. and we're going to see the high winds continuing. by the middle of the week, this high pressure overhead. it is causing the air to sink and as the air sinks it warms up. due to that compression in the friction and look you could see in the temperature trend our temperatures will be heating up. then by the weekend, the high pressure moves away. we'll see some more clouds. even a slight chance of rain nearby but it looks like we'll have a better chance of rain with this low citying ju-- sitte coast of next week so most of the week is dry.
6:51 am
a look at the seven-day forecast. the temperatures just like we've seen recently going up and down, this week it is going up mid-week, peaking and then back down in time for the weekend. mike, you're seeing a couple of snags along the way to the bay bridge. >> and they should be less of an issue. because they are clearing. the bay bridge was clearing. a few more cars but this is not bad. an early start and now a mild look at the bay bridge toll plaza. the upper east shore freeway, the crash cleared at el portal but since then traffic spreading out from highway 4 toward the berkeley curve. bottom of the screen, north 880 slow from the coliseum up to 23rd where the vehicle was cleared and also a crash in the area so more distraction. the south bay, north 87 at curtner the crash cleared there from lanes but that set off the slowing, slow from 85 up to curtner. the rest of the south bay for san jose typical slow pattern there. and then there in the middle, south 880 recovering down toward
6:52 am
dakota. we had a disabled vehicle. and a back-up forming out of union city. still about 20 miles per hour coming down through union city and then build west across san mateo and the dumbarton bridges. there is the san mateo bridge just to show you. you have a good volume of traffic but it is moving steadily over to the peninsula. back to you, kris. >> thank you, mike. breaking news in the philippines. hostages released from a shopping mall in the manila area. 30 people were held hostage by a gunman there. the mayor said that a former security guard recently let go opened fire at the mall and then held the people against their will. one person was shot and taken to the hospital. that person is in stable condition. the suspect was arrested after releasing the hostages. and next a quick look at top stories including more coronavirus cases popping up across the country and right he i details on two people now in the bay area hospital and the upcoming white house addressing later this morning. we'll talk about that and much more right ahead.
6:53 am
