per hour winds you might just take the early "early today" starts right now good morning i'm frances rivera >> and i'm phillip mena. we begin with the latest on the coronavirus emeround the world more than 96,000 people have been sickened and at least 3,300 have died, mostly in mainland china. palestinian territories have declared a 30-day state of emergency after four cases were suspected in bethlehem schools have been shut down, and all tourist and religious areas are closed outside of china, south korea had one of the largest outbreaks. overnight 500 more cases were reported there that brings the total to more than 6,000 royal caribbean has announced that people who have recently traveled to south korea will be barred from boarding their cruise ships that restriction also applies to italy and iran officials in washington state are reporting two more deaths from the virus which brings the total there to 13 and the national total to 14

vice president mike pence traveled to washington state to meet with governor jay inslee. for more on the u.s. response, here's nbc's alice barr. >> reporter: an escalating response to the coronavirus in the u.s. as the number of cases grows in more than a dozen states across the country. >> the yeas are 96 the yeas are none. >> reporter: the senate passing an $8 billion emergency funding bill to combat the spread. a minnesota facility that makes masks and all protect give gear. before heading to washington state after a state of emergency. so is california where another cruise ship linked to at least two confirmed cases was ordered to remain off the coast. and in new york state, cases doubling to 22 new york city's mayor imploring the federal government to send more test kits the trump administration says they're working on it. >> we don't have enough tests today to meet what we anticipate

of the high demand and preying on worried americans nbc's jolene kent has this report >> reporter: states across the country cracking down on coronavirus price gouging. >> we are now starting to see scam artists trying to profit off of the fear of the coronavirus. >> reporter: as fears grow, products like masks and hand sanitizer are selling out in stores and online. prices on amazon, walmart, and facebook marketplace from third-party sellers are skyrocketing $220 for a box of ten masks on amazon 11 times the regular price for a bottle of hand sanitizer on walmart.com, $48, normally less than $4 amazon tells nbc news it removed more than 1 million products they're also working to take down overpriced items. but a quick amazon search of hand sanitizer still turns up bottles that are more than twice the regular price. however, the listings of those

donald trump is a big risk for our party and for our country. >> reporter: biden and sanders both thanked warren for what she brought to the race while both actively seeking her endorsement. even if she does not endorse sanders, like exit is likely to give him an immediate boost since he is the last progressive candidate in the race. facebook is pulling misleading new ads from president trump's re-election campaign the post asks users to fill out an official 2020 congressional district census. but then redirects to a fundraising page for the trump campaign top democrats blasted the ads warning that it could lead to an inaccurate count when the real census goes out in mid-march >> facebook has something that is an official document of donald trump as saying fill this out, this is a census when it is not. it is an absolute lie. >> facebook removed the ads after house speaker nancy pelosi's remarks saying there are policies in place to prevent

confusion around the official u.s. census, and this is an example of those being enforced. the trump campaign has not responded for comment. some of country music's biggest stars use their celebrity for good in an effort to help victims of the deadly tennessee tornados kid rock, dave haywood and gavin degraw led a helping hand for a telethon in nashville. their efforts helped raise more than $385,000. money that will help survivors and recovery efforts here's nbc's stan brock. >> reporter: digging out from unthinkable devastation. >> i don't think that our brains are built to process this kind of destruction >> reporter: after an ef4 tornado ripped through central tennessee, images that defy imagination unless you've experienced the chaos first hand like johnny wilson >> i was holding onto him and

weinstein was being treated for heart palpitations and high blood pressure his attorneys tell nbc news the decision to move him to rikers island in new york city took him by surprise. they thought he would remain at the hospital until his sentencing on wednesday. weinstein faces a minimum of five years and a maximum of 29 years in prison. senate minority leader chuck schumer is backtracking after earning a sharp rebuke from chief justice john roberts but some say in the senate it's not enough nbc's kasie hunt has more. >> reporter: after intense backlash, top senate democrat chuck schumer walking back what many saw as a threat against two supreme court justices appointed by president trump >> i shouldn't have used the words i did, but in no way was i making a threat. >> reporter: wednesday at an abortion rights rally, schumer saying this. >> i want to tell you gorsuch, i
