there are 3,500 people onboard that ship, and health officials are now saying all of them will be tested at some point. this as the ship is scheduled to dock at some point this weekend. but when and where exactly, that's still a mystery. the sum of so many fears just floating just 45 miles off the california coast. the first tests are in, and the coronavirus is onboard the "grand princess." >> we are a sick ship apparently. >> 21 people tested positive for the virus including 19 crew members out of a test sample of just 45 people. >> we apologize but we were not given advance notice. >> reporter: passenger chris hoss as he learned the news not from the ship but from the vice president. >> it was frustrating that the captain, the cruise line didn't let us know first. >> reporter: the coast guard delivered tests the dramatic fashion but not enough for all 3,500 people onboard. quarantined just off san

buying. we've seen a $2 tiny bottle of purell selling online for $90. and now to the confusion surrounding test kits here in the united states. on friday the president said there are plenty available, enough for anyone who needs one, but that doesn't appear to be the case at this time. nbc's hans nichols is traveling with the president. he is in west palm beach. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, jose. the president is monitoring the response of coronavirus from here in florida as you mentioned overnight there were two deaths at least reported. now, the president is giving himself high marks in all of this. but on the question of test kits the president at the cdc down there in atlanta touting the availability and the accuracy b anyone who wants one can have one. later the vice president was forced to clarify that saying people would get tested based on doctors orders.

president trump also injecting politics into his visit to the cdc talking about how the governor of washington state, jay inslee, calling him a snake and warning the vice president not to trust his intentions. he also weighed in on the grand princess cruise ship, president trump saying he wasn't for bringing those passengers onto u.s. soil because he wanted to keep the numbers low. now, coronavirus isn't the only thing on the president's mind. late last night he made a major personnel announcement taking to twitter to do so, announcing a new chief of staff. it's mark meadows. he's a congressman from north carolina. he replaces mick mulvaney who'd only been the acting chief of staff. and the president made a big deal about acting. when he took to twitter he didn't use the word acting, and that's an indication that meadows could be a permanent chief of staff, and he and the president will really be side by side as they head into the re-election. remember meadows was so crucial throughout the impeachment process and has really developed a close political bond with the
