princess" are waiting to get off the ship and head into quarantine. that process will happen today. >> three tsa agents at mineta san jose airport tested positive for coronavirus and possibly exposed travelers as well. let's head over to kari hall who is tracking the sprinkles. >> did you see that coming in this morning? >> i did. >> we'll see that moving through but for the most part it's not really a big thing to really slow you down this morning. as we zoom in we can see exactly where the rain is falling from san jose to south of free mon over to sunnyvale and part of the peninsula. we start out with light rain. this is going to move through, part of a bigger storm system bringing heavier rain just to our south. we'll be watching this with some clearing for today. more on that coming up in a few minutes. mike, there may be a problem on the bay bridge.

slightly wet roads in many parts of the bay. a slighting building commute for the cash lanes. no metering lights yet but on the span reports of a muni bus trying to exit there at the treasure island exit there. can't because another vehicle stalled in front of it so they may both be waiting just off the roadway as you're exiting. it will be a distraction. the volume is light getting over to the maze. green scattered around. that's where you have wetter roadways, perhaps slick. just be careful. this morning thousands of people could have been exposed to coronavirus. mineta san jose announcing three tsa agents tested positive. >> we also don't know where in the airport they were working or when they last worked. >> reporter: the travel industry as a whole has been impacted by

the spreading coronavirus. it now includes airport workers at sjc. the tsa confirming three officers have tested positive for covid-19. >> yeah, that can spread. i'd worry about it. >> reporter: the agency saying three employees are receiving medical care, and all the tsa workers they came into contact with over the past 14 days are quarantined at home. no word how many passengers those officers screened. >> i still need to travel. the least i can do is be careful, wash my hands. >> reporter: the tsa saying in part screening checkpoints remain open and the agency is working with the cdc as well as the california department of public health and a santa clara county public health department to monitor the situation as well as the health and safety of our employees and the traveling public. michelle says she may stay home for the time being because of all the virus developments.

>> i went through tsa and didn't have any physical contact with anyone in there, so i am aware of that. this is my new way to say hi. no more handshaking. a live look now for us at sfo where we're getting a better idea of the impact from the coronavirus. on international into and out of sfo the airport leaders say passenger numbers are down 30% from the same time last year in the international terminal. the latest airline to cut back on its flights is australia's kwanzaa reducing its load. warriors president will meet with san francisco mayor london breed this morning to talk about leaving the doors of the chase center open during the outbreak. last night the ws hosted the clippers and there were a lot of empty seats. but some san francisco leaders believe the team is ignoring better judgment by allowing fans to show up not to mention recommendations from the city to

limit large gatherings. and the clock is ticking because the warriors host their next game tomorrow night. alameda and contra costa county issued new warnings about large gatherings as well as the number of coronavirus cases continues to climb. of the ten confirmed cases in contra costa county at least six are believed to have come from community spread. 4:35. san jose is temporarily halting its homeless sweeps. mayor sam liccardo announcing it last night. he did not give a time line on when the sweeps would start again. >> we are constantly updating our website and platforms even at night dedicating an entire section to the coronavirus. you can find it all at nbcbayarea.com. a new settlement paves the way for north bay fire victims to have first priority with pg&e's wildfire agreement becomes finalized. a claim to be included in the fund tied to pg&e's bankruptcy settlement threatening to get in

the way of a $13.5 billion relief fund for fire victims. that new deal reduces fema's claims to $1 billion and allows victims to be paid first. any final deal still needs to be approved from the bankruptcy judge. and now to a follow-up in contra costa county. supervisors are moving forward with new regulations for short-term rentals like airbnb. they will have to receive county permits to operate legally. it is expected to be approved later this month. it comes in the wake of a deadly shooting at a house party in orinda. the house was an airbnb property with owners who did not live in the area. airbnb reacting to the coronavirus. the way they're helping out hosts and guests. >> and making it in the bay. some help for mobile home parks in the south bay. the steps leaders are taking to protect current residents. and looking live at the bay

start. we'll talk about a warm-up coming up in a few minutes. and over here in fremont we're880. moving a bit but not a major problem. as well but i did get a few drops on my wind good morning. i'm contessa brewer at cnbc headquarters. today's top business headlines. we could be in for another volatile day on wall street. it looks like the dow's opening down 719 points following yesterday's big rally. we're seeing a lot of worries about the economic impact of coronavirus. the trump administration says it's still considering potential measures such as a payroll tax cut or paid sick leave for hourly workers. overseas the bank of england this morning cut interest rates to try to counter the impact on the uk economy. that led european markets higher. they were all in agreement. asia all in the red.

yesterday wall street surged regaining a chunk of monday's massive losses soaring more than 1,100 points on the dow, the third best ever, while the s&p had its best day since december 2018. the ceo of jetblue says demand for flights has dropped more in response to the coronavirus than it did after 9/11. robin hayes told cnbc they are planning for it to get worse and doesn't think bookings have stabilized and jetblue has not asked the white house for federal assistance. his comments come after united has seen a 70% drop in domestic bookings the last few days. airbnb has introduced a nor flexible reservation policy to help hosts and guests cancel without taking a loss. airbnb will waive the standard 3% fee it collects for hosts who refund more of their guest money than the cancellation policy requires. and if you're a guest who needs to cancel you will not be

charged the guest service fee for doing so. both policies run through june 1st. marcus, kris, a lot of companies are trying to adapt to the current coronavirus concerns. >> we've seen major differences in our traffic flow, using that as a barometer, bridge traffic is down 18% on one, 8% on the other. mass transit down about 8%, too. a the lot of companies are having folks work from home. >> wow. >> all right, contessa, thank you. 4:42. coming up this morning on "today in the bay," kari hall is tracking some sprinkles in the forecast. >> if you do have to drive to work this morning you're going to have to turn on the wind shield wipers. i'll be tracking this and talk about some sunshine in our forecast coming up next. but it's not enough to stop the folks from working on the roads like the golden gate bridge. northbound there are cones crews are starting to clear and then

they'll have to make a shift. so far it's fine across this span. a disabled vehicle on the bay bridge. one test comes in positive. another test comes in negative. sometimes one comes in inconclusive. >> so this bay area man says he can't get a straight answer about whether or not he has coronavirus. up next we'll show you that he's stuck in isolation. he's been there for weeks. he's telling us his story. the testing process that's left him frustrated and alone.

good morning to you. looking live at san francisco this morning, a beautiful sight, nice and clear but you might need your windshield wipers at some point. kari hall is tracking a little bit of rain in the forecast. >> most of us got sprinkles yesterday especially from areas south of the golden gate bridge. this morning we're seeing one last wave of some rain coming through and then elsewhere we are dry and roads may be a little bit wet where you are especially in san jose heading up to milpitas and the rain moving to sanford and south of san mateo and this wave of rain is moving northward so that's something we'll be watching the next couple of hours. and then it's all because of this storm system that's been to the south of us bringing heavier rain to parts of southern california where we've seen the showers off and on. but here in san francisco we are starting out with a mostly dry sky and also looking at some mostly clear skies and dry

conditions as we go hour by hour. we'll see another wave of rain or two coming through between now and late morning. the rest of the day is looking dry keeping a spotty rain chance in the forecast as it stays unsettled with the area of low pressure nearby. as we go throughout the rest of the week we'll see this moving away and another storm system moving in. on saturday and sunday we see waves of rain coming through that may linger into tuesday as well. so it may be a prolonged period with off and on showers. this computer model shows the potential of getting three-quarters of an inch of rain over the next week in the north bay and then oakland, san francisco, less than a half inch and up to close to a half inch of rain in san jose. looks pretty promising here the fact that we'll see a significant snow in parts of the sierra reaching up to 60 inches of snow possible in king veil and we're going to see this lasting from saturday through

monday and this may end up with some snow on some of our bay area peaks. that's something we've been missing throughout much of the winter. cooling down with much cooler temperatures for the weekend. off and on showers especially on sunday, tapering off. mike, you're starting out with a look at the san mateo bridge. i am, kari. under the lights you see a little bit of damp pavement. that may be the case but it may be slicker because of the overnight sprinkles. keep that in mind as you hit the off ramps. coming across 92 take a look over here. as you exit over at 92 on to 101, the transition ramp reports of a disabled vehicle there. we're talking about slicker roadw roadways if you do come across something unexpectedly it may be an issue if you hit your brakes. this band right here, the

highlighted green is where kari was showing the most recent rain activity. that may be a factor as you come down here. i haven't heard of any problems and traffic is very light right now. has been for the week. over here across the bay bridge we do have a smooth flow of traffic. there is a concern, reports of a disabled vehicle and i haven't seen the sensors slow. it's only as you approach the exit coming through the tunnel. look how light that is over to the bay bridge and we have cones traveling north. the truck has traveled to the north as well. we should say that lane opening up. the gilroy police officers who shot the gilroy garlic festival shooter were lawful and justified in doing so, the decision by the santa clara county district attorney's office. three officers confronted him

less than a minute after he opened fire on festival goers. they shot him several times in july. after wounded he shot and killed himself. he killed two children and a man and wounded 17 others. the city of sacramento is reportedly agreeing to pay more than half a million dollars in a settlement filed by protesters detained in the aftermath of the clark shooting. the shooting sparked a lot of protests in 2018. officers were cleared of wrongdoing despite the fact clark only carried a cell phone and not a weapon when officers fired. this next story includes a bay area man who says he feels fine but keeps testing positive for coronavirus. >> he is under mandatory home isolation. he was onboard "the diamond princess" when passengers were quarantined in february. when he got to travis air force

base he tested positive for the virus. okay. then after treatment he went home. he says he never had symptoms but the test results keep him inside. >> i've been tested many times and need to be tested negative twice in a row in order for me to be a free man. >> san mateo public health is sending his test to a cdc lab in atlanta but will begin using local labs soon as well. stay tuned. a hospital will now stay open. last night supervisors approved $20 million in funding in daly city. that money will help keep the facility open until a new owner is found. the current owner says it can no longer afford to operate that hospital. teachers with antioch unified school district ramp up their fight for a new contract. they'll rally at district offices on g street tonight at 6:30. teachers are demanding smaller

class sizes and not to take away preparation time. students and teachers may be looking for a new school next year. the office of education will hold a vote tonight whether to keep john henry high school open or close it down. it is located near the richmond marina bay. teachers, students and parents are expected to attend the meeting to support keeping the schools over. >> san jose is giving people in mobile homes more protections. city councilmembers madeep peop from being evicted. some property owners want to redevelop their parks, their properties into affordable housing but everyone living there would have to leave. housing advocates say the parks provide a low cost option for people during this housing crisis. 4:52. coming up, nbc bay area

responds. >> travel companies are backing off their ironclad rules. i'm chris chmura. we'll show you the rules they're bending and how to request a waiver yourself. the future of sports in europe on display. an empty stadium, yet soccer players still competing. no fans were allowed inside in valencia, spain, during a soccer match. officials made the decision to ban fans from the match because of fears of the coronavirus spreading. they are closing all sporting events for the foreseeable future. county officials have banned large gatherings of more than 1,000 people. the warriors owner is meeting with mayor london breed today as well.

good morning. one of the large travel insurance companies says it's loosening its restrictions. here is what they say, clues due to epidemics or fear of travel are not typically covered by standard travel insurance products. however, until further notice, the company will be accommodating claims for people who come down with coronavirus and those who had travel scheduled to china, south korea or parts of italy who want to voluntarily cancel. we checked with aig, another insurance company, to see if it's relaxing any rules and didn't get a response. airlines are offering varying levels of new flexibility, too. some carriers are allowing passengers to modify cancel. check back if you booked a flight or bought travel insurance or both. look on the company's websites for updates now. if you were told no changes yesterday you could be told yes

rain is returning to parts of the bay area. kari hall is timing it all out for us. as you're driving you just have to turn on the windshield wipers and turn it off. the rain around milpitas and over to sunnyvale, over to palo alto and south of san mateo so not all of us are seeing the rain and this will be moving through parts of the bay area this morning. the rest of the day is looking clear. there are some of those wet roads you have to deal with. the area you showed the radar activity is the same area we're seeing that road weather index report, the slicker roads. that may be a factor throughout the south bay. i am tracking the disabled bus and car reported around treasure island. back to our
