6:33 am
through the security area. >> reporter: tsa is saying those three tsa officers who work here are receiving medical care and all the tsa employees they came into contact with within the past 14 days are quarantined at home. the statement put out by the tsa does not tell us which security checkpoint they are working at. terminal a, b or both of them? were these behind-the-scenes employees or were they screening and interacting with the passengers? and if so how many passengers did they come in contact with? how long were they contagious before they became aware they had the virus? the screening checkpoints as you saw briefly do remain open. the agency says it is working with the cdc, the california department of health and the public health department. do you have any concerns about going through security? >> no. >> reporter: why not?

6:39 am
all right. here we go heading into the weekend and, of course, we are coming up to what you've been telling us, showers. >> we have off and on rain, cooler temperatures and a lot of outdoor events canceled including the st. patrick's day parade and the one in dublin as well. we are going to have also unsettled weather so probably a good thing people aren't standing out in the rain with this cool weather. we'll see high temperatures only up to 59 degrees on saturday. on sunday it will be slightly cooler and more widespread rain. i think this will be the soggiest of the two days. maybe friday will be the best day. if you're traveling to the sierra great weather getting there but maybe hold off if you have a few extra days to stay and watch the snowfall. you'll enjoy it. we're going to see temperatures only reaching into the low 30s there. a great time to get outside on friday with sunshine. highs in the mid-60s and maybe you can get out in between the

6:43 right now. this is one of our top stories for this morning. trading under way, the dow down about 600 points right now. we want to talk with bertha coombs from cnbc, and we expected a bit of a drop, bertha. is this the drop we were expecting, though? >> just about, kris and marcus. we've seen over the last 12 days as fears over the coronavirus have intensified the markets have moved about 3.5% a day over
6:44 am
the last 12 days or so. when you think about the fact that all of 2019 the average was about half a percentage point. this volatility is something we continue to expect. we haven't seen back-to-back gains since february 6. as you can imagine a lot of focus on the coronavirus. about three stocks are trading to the upside in the s&p. two of them are drug makers that are working on solutions to help treat the virus. one of them is gilead which has a drug that is being tested on victims in china and according to u.s. health officials it's looking pretty good. this is early on. another is working on a vaccine
6:45 am
but also has an arthritis drug that some believe may also be able to be used. they have drugs that might be tested to treat some patients at this point. at this point there is not a vaccine or a treatment. they are trying to treat the people who are afflicted. a number of companies are responding to the virus. walmart yesterday saying that it is going to waive its attendance policies for any workers who may feel nervous about coming to work or have sick relatives or are sick themselves. there's one walmart employee in kentucky that did test positive for covid-19. the company says it is stepping up its sanitizing processes at all of its stores. it is also going to help with time paid off which is a big issue for hourly workers. wynn will provide five days for
6:46 am
people who test positive or have issues with the covid-19 and of course the issue of insurance. significa cigna and others have waived cost sharing on testing and the plans that they put out. some large employers are trying to decide what to do. they are now also going to be waving test costs. this is one of the things that continues to evolve as we all continue to try to cope with this virus situation. we are continuing to see down today but at this point as one of my colleagues had said when you see a day it's down 3%, it's been so volatile that seems normal. >> making it normal. >> monday we saw the circuit breakers kick in. >> thank you very much, bertha. interesting time. 3% down which is an improvement as bertha said. it was also two weeks ago today
6:47 am
that president trump announced his coronavirus task force. >> and, scott mcgrew, that task force updates us every afternoon. good morning to you. it's convinced to waive the cost of coronavirus testing. people with insurance will be able to get the tests for free if those tests are requested by a doctor and they're available. we know there are 1,000 americans with coronavirus. 30 americans are dead. far more than two weeks ago when we first met the team. >> and, again, when you have 15 people, and 15 within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero. that's a pretty good job we've done. >> as you heard there president trump has been very hopeful the situation would get better. at one point saying the disease would go away like a miracle. here he is on capitol hill on tuesday. >> and it hit the world and we're prepared and doing a great job with it. it will go away.
6:48 am
just stay calm. >> it has not gone away in italy. doctors reporting not only are there not enough respirators but some people over a certain age or with certain co-morbidity factors are not being treated at all in hospitals much less being put on respirators. german chancellor angela merkel said her scientists were telling her they expected 70% of all germans would be infected, the largest economy in europe. other news out of washington a federal appeals court has ruled the house of representatives can see the evidence of the mueller grand jury. in criminal case that is wouldn't fly. impeachments are not criminal cases. the 2 to 1 ruling points to past impeachments where congress was allowed to access grand jury information. the white house will likely appeal this to the supreme court but, again, the past rulings have allowed evidence to be released. why does it matter? democrats in the house suspect the grand jury evidence could
6:49 am
provide them with new reasons to impeach again. we're watching what's happening in washington. most of it is about coronavirus. you can follow me on twitter. i'm @scottmcgrew. a little clarity in the race to replace disgraced congressman duncan hunter. we knew that democrat was the top vote getter in tuesday's super primary. however, republican darrell issa now says that he has enough votes to clinch second place and that would force a fall run-off. issa's main opponent conceded with votes left to be counted. so if you think it should be anything goes when it comes to a vanity license plate, check out this. they are suing dmv in the case that could open up to vulgar and offensive license plates. whenever the dmv denies a request for a personalized plate it violates the first amendment rights. the complaint says the dmv in 2018 denied more than 30,000
6:50 am
requests it found offensivive. they say the denials are based on personal viewpoints. >> an interesting time. a look at weather and traffic starting with kari hall. >> stay inside, read a book. we've just seen some light, spotty sprinkles. it's part of a bigger storm system bringing rain across southern california. for us we haven't seen much of it. it was nice to at least see the spotty rain that we had yesterday. now as we wake up and look out the window in walnut creek, the sky is clearing and this is what we'll see for the rest of today. temperatures starting out in the low 50s and then reaching into the upper 60s by 1:00 today. now we still have some warm weather today, tomorrow, as well
6:51 am
as fr saturday a storm in coole temperatures and we'll see that rain continuing for a couple of days. maybe even into early wednesday. and the computer models are now showing that in terms of rain for the bay area we may see anywhere from half an inch of rain to three-quarters of an inch of rain and some of the higher amounts may be in the south county once again. in terms of sierra snow, it's been sad to see our snowpack di dwindling. we're at 38% of normal. then as we look at the forecast we have some great news here. we've seen consistently the possibility of several feet of snow going into the weekend as well as early next week. but if you're planning to travel there expect it to be treacherous starting on saturday and continuing through sunday. for the bay area that's where we see the cooler air coming in and the off and on rain and the potential of some of our bay area peaks getting coated with
6:52 am
snow by early monday morning. i'll be tracking that for you. mike, you're tracking a full closure on kari. overall the bay shows a light traffic flow just kicking in the commute. the san mateo bridge the slowest crossing we have. the backup at the bay bridge. here in the north bay is where we have the traffic alert. all lanes of westbound 80 are closed at the 680 split or just shy of that. a crash involving a motorcycle. trying to get there a fire truck. they were involved in a minor crash as well in the backup. i think they're on the move again trying to help out over there and i believe should be opening lanes any second now. we just saw the sensors change. i think that means we have at least one lane open this is a problem out of fairfield. by the time you get to the cordelia junction, you're fine. the approach might be lighter right now as all the folks are held up in fairfield. walnut creek shows a little more traffic. slowing for 24. west 80 getting to berkeley
