4:30. good morning to you. more developments in the coronavirus outbreak. >> before we get to traffic, over night gavin newsom made an announcement recommending gatherings of 250 or more be canceled. santa clara has the most cases with 48, and there are two more cases of marin county. >> across the country there are more than 12,000 cases at 37

deaths. at sfo there's a new travel ban. president trump announcing the u.s. is suspending travel from europe. gary, we started out with sprinkles. >> it's all clear this morning. we are going to have a nice start to the day. it's like it's going to be milder than we see with temperatures in the upper 40s. it's going to be a beautiful afternoon. we are watching an incoming storm for the weekend, and i will track the timing of that and what to expect for weekend plans. over here we're looking at the golden gate bridge. all week we have seen light

traffic overnight and continuing into the morning. the rest of the bay, no major problems declared. we'll track this. >> thanks, mike. turning back to breaking news and the coronavirus pandemic. >> first let's get to pete with more on the push governor newsom is making when it comes to events of over 250 people. pete? >> reporter: yeah, governor gavin newsom making that big decision to cancel large gatherings in california, and that comes after the city of san francisco makes that decision, and it would affect events here at the chase center, and that includes the warriors games and we will get to that in a minute. this is from the california department of public health, they are joining officials in calling for the cancelation of

large gatherings, and we are talking about concerts, sporting events, and this would also apply to smaller gatherings. if we don't allow what we call, social disstun sing. the nba suspended the season after one players tested positive for the covid-19. here's the coach steve kerr reacting to the big news yesterday after that decision. >> it's easy to shrug something off when it is across the world and not affecting your daily life, even if you read it could

just get out of the line, and told them we had to cancel. >> the department of homeland security later clarified it does not affected u.s. citizens but nationals in countries where the coronavirus is spreading. the ban goes into effect on friday and will last 30 days. the coronavirus could live on some surfaces for up to three days. scientists in the u.s. says that virus can linger in the air for several hours. the purpose is to show the importance of hygiene and disinfecting common areas. and testing for the coronavirus is spreading throughout california, and hospitals at sonoma county has a

enhanced surveillance program, and it is to test between 60 and 80 patients who have symptoms daily. the hospital successfully treated three patient recently. california gets half of the income tax income from the top of the 1%, and the gains are tied closely to the stock market. the state estimates it will have more than $20 billion in reserves in 2020. if the stock market continues to fall they might have a chance to change revenue estimates so the state would have less to spend. and then the mayor in san francisco produced a stimulus package for places like restaurants. this also includes breaks on

licensing fees and business taxes. despite fears over the coronavirus trains and buses throughout the south bay continue to run on time. they have not changed service plans, at least for now. it should be noted tech employees are working from home due to coronavirus fears which appears to have shrunk ridership. meanwhile bart plans to ask for emergency government funding to help with the impact of the coronavirus on its services. according to the east bay times, the outbreak has had a significant impact on rideshare compared to a year ago. 4:37 for you this morning the all-new measures amazon is taking to try and crack down on third parties that are selling

morning? >> yeah, when i'm in bed. >> i microphones are on. >> you know when you get back from vacation, you are, like, wow, it's tough. >> yeah. >> missed you. >> missed you, too. >> get outside today. it's going to be beautiful. we are starting out with fogs in spots, and we are seeing it in the north bay. visibility is quarter of a mile in some areas right along the coastline. we will see it warming up as we go towards noon. nice day to take that lunch outside as our temperature in oakland will be at 64 degrees, and 68 degrees in napa, and also 68 degrees in san jose. we continue to warm up.

a lot of mid-70s here, and upper 70s for parts of the north bay. coming into tonight down in the upper 40s once again. we have today and tomorrow with dry weather and then saturday is when that storm system will be approaching. let's time it out for you as we go hour-by-hour. we will start to see clouds moving in, and at 1:30 in the morning we are seeing spotty sprinkles and that increases in coverage going into late saturday morning with light rain to start and see it get heavier as we see the darker shades of green by 6:30 on saturday. on sunday morning it's more widespread and continues into monday. as we look at the storm system and what else is coming our way, we will see widespread rain over a couple days. our models still showing we could see anywhere from half an

inch of rain, but now picking up on a lot more of the rain go into the middle of next week as another storm system comes in. now check out this computer model for the sierra showing 83 instances of snow for king dale over the next week. that could be a really big hindrance in travel but a good thing that we are seeing possibly a miracle march here. we are going to see temperatures cooling off as well. look how we go from the upper 70s today to the lower 50s inland by sunday. we will be tracking all of that for you. mike, you are looking at a smooth drive right now. yeah, right now because like we started the week off, a lot of folks taking off, and we are going -- we do have all the information regarding schools on

teacher and student gatherings such as assemblies are canceled, and no cases of the virus have been reported. and then feeling the impact from the loss of business due to the coronavirus. by now you are probably aware of the impact on san francisco's tourism and the convention dollars, and the ripple affect is being felt in areas like the gas lamp quarter. we have dedicated an entire section to the coronavirus, and you can find out all of this on nbc b nbcbayarea.com. and then a teenager killed by a mall shooting, and it's not clear what led up to the shooting and no are-s have been made. asylum seekers are

continuing to wait in mexico as they wait. the previous ruling would have brought the remaining mexico problem for people arriving at the border crossings in arizona and california. the policy will remain in effect while a lawsuit challenging it makes its way through the courts. prosecutors are seeking a 14 month prison sentence for a congressman that recently pleaded guilty to corruption, and dohunter and his attorneys e asking for home detention. we are getting a look at how many voters came out to super tuesday, about 49% voted, and

c covid-19 test, you can't just go to the pharmacy. >> here's how to request it. talk to a doctor or nurse over the phone. doctors tell us they don't want people just come into clinics for fear they could expose other people. here's what will likely happen. they will ask you for symptoms and travel history. they will alert the cdc and local health department and if they think you are infected they will tell you how, when and where you will be tested. the test itself might involve a swab from your nose, throat or blood test, and two national labs have not settled on the cost just yet. if you have health insurance, it probably will pay for the test. every company on the list from the health industry association.
