changing day-to-day here in the uk the government said they wouldn't ban mass gatherings, now saying they will and they're urging people to work from home. >> you lived in china, you were there when the crisis began. what does china's experience tell us what it could look like for us here in the united states >> peter, a lot of these measures that we're seeing were imposed in china a couple months ago, closing schools, several of them not being available to lawmakers in the united states but we have seen the number of new cases every day drop to single digits. as well, my son had his first play date at another kid's house in the last two months so there are signs of improvement for people living with the restrictions. experts are saying no matter how shocking or drastic they seem or feel, they're necessary to

protect your families. >> americans looking to come out on the other side of this, it's going to be a while. health officials say the coronavirus will get worse before it gets better. look at the numbers so far, two weeks ago, coronavirus was in nine states with 63 cases and no reported deaths. a week later that jumped to 39 states and 363 cases and 17 deaths now every state except west virginia has more cases. for more on this roller coaster week, we'll talk to stephanie rhule, as well as dr. adal we will begin with you, doctor, as our guest this morning. this was a wild week, the way we know life in america is on pause for the moment some people are saying this is more of a anic-demic than a

pandemic what do you think of those people who think it's overblown? >> reporter: it isn't overblown. this is a fast spreading virus that goes between humans it has a death rate of 1% or possibly lower we're worried how this is going to impact our hospitals. even with a 1% fatality rate, there's going to be enough people infected and sick that that we're going overburden our hospitals. that's what we're worried about. >> we've been engaging in this effort to flatten the curve, to try to make sure that the cases don't spike all at once. the president announced robust measures including spanning the travel ban we know events have been cancelled across the country, is this the appropriate response? >> we need to do as much social distancing as we can, especially

for the juvulnerable populations we need to empower our doctors to know who has the infections, where it is in our country some of these things may seem like blanket recommendations to cancel everything, but we can't be much more nuanced because we don't know which cities it's in, not in, because our testing is behind the eight ball so we're lacking situational awareness. we need to work on that, accelerate anti-virals, vaccines and do great public health communication to the public. >> thank you so much we appreciate it we want to bring in stephanie rhule. yesterday, of course we heard the president announce that national emergency and the stock market rebounded almost immediately overnight even more developments with the house signing that measure that's going to pump more money into this crisis. how do you anticipate the stock market is going to respond, will it start to stabilize?

>> stabilize unclear the market doesn't like uncertainty and they've been begging the last few weeks for numbers. when the president was speaking yesterday finally we heard about a mass plan to test, to increase the number of tests, but more importantly from a market perspective, he was flanked by best in class business leaders, from quest diagnostics to cvs, walmart, targeted, the biggest stake holders. so now the president created this partnership to address it and the market likes it. as far as volatility goes, the question is are they going to deliver? we don't know but the market likes the plan. >> obviously this is going to take a toll on a lot of americans, perhaps no one more than your restaurant workers, uber and lift drivers, the hourly workers, are they the hardest hit by this? >> without a doubt

all the advice we've been given, which is to stay home, cancel almost everything, changing most aspects of our daily lives, that hurts our economy. we're a service based economy. so all the jobs you talked about, when people are staying home, we're not out spending, getting our hair cut, going to the gym. that's going to impact things. by the house bill you talked about is going to be a first step to address these things. >> a lot of people hoping the senate signs that soon so the president can get moving on it thank you, stephanie rhule more than a dozen rockets hit by a coalition -- hit a coalition base north of baghdad today. it happened at camp taji at least two iraq soldiers were wounded. it comes after a similar strike killed three american service men. the u.s. led the strikes on the group backed by iran, who is

believed to be responsible. let's get a check of your weather. dave price is back in studio 1a, holding down the fort. good to see you, we miss you. >> let's look at the weather right now and see what's happening as we go out to the pacific northwest and roll into the northern rockies, even the southern sierra, 10 million people under winter weather alerts along the coast talking about scattered rain but above 4,000 feet you could get heavy snow. that's what we're keeping an eye on we have a low pressure system that's going to roll right along the coastline as it continues along the west coast we'll also see a cold front slip on through. we'll see slow moving storms and feet of snow to replenish what has been a snow drought this season last year we got about 150% of normal this year about 35%. so this will help out. what are we talking about as far

that likely won't happen until monday at the earliest. the president has said he is going to sign it. governors in several more states decided to shut down schools statewide. right now there are 13 states that have decided to close schools. at least for the foreseeable future. for the time being. >> despite having contact with two people who tested positive for coronavirus, president trump's doctor says the president will not be tested at this time. also this weekend, disney, universal studios and other theme parks are getting ready to shut down. kerry sanders is in orlando this morning with that part of our coverage. good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning. disney world and other theme parks are open. the decision by disney and the other theme parks here in the capital of theme parks is that they will shut down beginning tomorrow night. and the mayor here for orange county in orlando said that this call by disney and the other theme parks that followed suit was a billion dollar decision.

at disney world in orlando, a last minute dash to enjoy what's left. at some rides, lines were still long friday. but elsewhere, clear evidence, what was to be a robust spring break is coming to an abrupt end. the van bus kerr family packing up, heading back to michigan after only a few days at disney. >> were you ever worried about maybe somebody in line has coronavirus? >> you know, we did when we went to animal kingdom. there was an elderly lady standing in line while we were getting food. she was coughing a lot. that kind of made us a little nervous. >> 126 million visitors come to orlando every year. so many drawn here by the mouse. disney was first to announce it would close sunday evening. universal orlando resort with its wildly popular wizarding world of harry potter followed, then seaworld and lego land.

>> disney world in orlando opened in 1971. since then, is it has closed only four times and in each case because of hurricanes. it did shutter briefly during 9/11. but the county mayor here says this decision to close to the end of the month is epic. >> disney, i believe, made the right call here. they put the people over profit. >> at universal orlando resort friday owned by universal, our parent company, visitors told us they were trying to jam in as much as possible before sunday. >> it is what it is. >> nationwide attractions like six flags, knots berry farm and disneyland in california also closing. the theme parks effectively hanging a sign in the window that says check back in april. >> with so much closing, including the smithsonian and the national zoo in washington, for you guys, the big question is, aside from streaming, what
