>> it has been eight days since coronavirus was declared a global pandemic and our way of life gets turned upside down the president signs a relief package which could include direct payment to americans. the first coronavirus case was diagnosed in the country fearly two months ago now the number of confirmed cases has escalated reaching more than 8,600. those numbers are expected to spike as more tests become available. two members of congress announce they tested positive for the deadly disease mario and ben mcadams announced they are self-quarantining as ventilator numbers reach a critical state, auto makers gm and ford are considering the same nike is donating more than 15 million to help support

the news comes as italy reported its deadliest day yet. for the latest on the global response we turn to london how are europe's health care systems dealing with this? >> reporter: that's right. europe is now the most badly affected place on earth from the coronavirus as you said surpassing china in the number of cases and fatalities. europe now has more than 85,000 infections compared to china with almost 81,000 europe is also reported just under 4,000 deaths compared with about 3,200 in china while italy remains the hardest hit country in europe, with almost 3,000 deaths. on tuesday within 24 hours they had a staggering 475 deaths. the biggest increase since the outbreak italy also has almost 36,000 cases of coronavirus, not only is the entire country in
