deaths in the bay area. the biggest jump in san francisco and santa clara county. a live team coverage is moments away. right now we want to start out with a look at the forecast for you this morning. meteorologist kari hall is tracking that for us. nice and clear today? yes. good friday morning to you. it is going to be a chilly start and still a cool day but we will have sunshine and that will make it feel so much nicer. as we get a live look outside in san francisco once again showing love with that live look. and we're going to start out with a mostly clear sky. as we go into today our temperatures will go from the ee advisories and freeze warnings that will continue until 9:00. temperatures now in the mid-30s and reaching into the low 40s in san jose. we'll talk about the rain returning tomorrow. that's in the forecast coming up. mike, heading out the door the essential drivers going to work need the heater on.

bill is approved it will be a huge relief for millions of people suddenly facing major uncertainty. bob redell live for us from his home in livermore. bob, we saw that staggering number of people who filed for unemployment insurance. what kind of benefits are we talking about here? >> reporter: this is very helpful for the 3.2 million of americans who filed for unemployment last week, the number you're referring to, 1,000 of whom were californians. this bill would provide those people an extra 13 weeks of their regular california unemployment benefits plus an extra $600 per week for four months. take a look at this video. the state has set up a special webpage to help navigate unemployment during the covid-19 outbreak. if you have lost your job or reduced hours for reasons related to this, your weekly unemployment benefits could range anywhere between $40 and $450 for up to 26 weeks, that's

were initially quarantined to the 2,400 passengers onboard the ship were ever tested while in quarantine. of those about 100 tested positive. governor gavin newsom will meet in los angeles with mayor eric garcetti, who is battling a huge spike in coronavirus case this is week. confirmed cases, illnesses and deaths in los angeles county rose by more than half this week. there are now 21 deaths and more than 1,000 cases. governor newsom will visit the naval hospital ship scheduled to arrive in los angeles this morning, the "usns mercy" will serve as a referral hospital for noncoronavirus patients who are currently in local hospitals. commander edgar san luis is one of more than 100 onboard who will help out. >> it was hard to leave my wife and my son, especially at this time of uncertainty.

bay. i don't think you'll spot it on this grid here, though. good morning. i'm frank holland at cnbc headquarters. here are today's top business headlines. wall street is pointed to a lower open this morning after stocks rallied yesterday. investors looked past the major surge and the people filing for unemployment as the total did not top the most dire forecast. instead focused on the $2 trillion bill that is expected to pass the house today. posting the biggest percentage gain since 1931 but still on pace for its worst month since the financial crisis in 2009. hilton is the latest company taking steps to cut costs during the coronavirus outbreak. the hotel operator will furlough workers for up to 90 days. the company ceo is foregoing his salary for the rest of the year. as for guests hilton will let them get a refund through june. consumers worried about contracting the coronavirus are trying to boost their immune system the old-fashioned way by drinking lots of orange juice.

the best performing commodity up 25%. analysts say americans are rushing out to stock up on the staple on concerns about issues with production and shipping. one trader says shoppers are treating o.j. like it's toilet paper. however, there's no actual supply shortage but they're still clearing the shelves. kari, back over to you. fran interesting. never even thought about that. let's get a look at our forecast this morning as we're making breakfast. essential workers heading out the door. we'll have a cool start to the day and slightly warmer with sunshine. we'll look at the rain in the forecast coming up next. and we're looking at some lovely hearts, the light display in downtown san jose. an issue for the rails down here as well as a longer drive as you're coming in from our state capital.

lot going on today in our forecast as well going into the weekend. we're starting out with cool temperatures in the north bay. we're watching for the possibility of some freezing temperatures. as we look in san jose a clear start and also cool temperatures looking at where we're heading for today. normally our high temperature is about 67. we're going to be slightly below that today as we only reach into the lower 60s for this afternoon but that sunshine will make it feel much better going into the rest of today. and then as we go into the forecast we are going to see our temperatures reaching into the mid-60s in the south bay, the east bay also in the low 60s with some upper 50s for the peninsula, san francisco reaching about 57, 58 degrees in the mission district and north bay highs reaching up to 59 in santa rosa. up to 60 today in ukiah. and this weekend that rain returns to the bay area. we start to see those showers coming back. we are mostly dry today.

even starting out early tomorrow morning the rain starts to roll in. it will be scattered and continuing off and on throughout the afternoon. this, of course, will keep a lot of people inside as we go into sunday as well. our rainfall totals for most of the bay area looks like it will reach half to three-quarters of an inch. this run of the computer model shows more rain. of course that's great news because if it's going to rain it might as well just pour and help us out here with our rainfall deficit and the fact we are now in a moderate drought. our temperatures will be in the low 60s today, upper 50s tomorrow. also cool on sunday. monday is when we'll start to warm up after that weather system rolls out of here we'll get some very warm temperatures for this time of year reaching into the mid-70s. san francisco will warm up after a chilly and wet weekend going up to 60 on monday.
