tracie potts joining us with more and the top health experts say it is not too late to mitigate the disaster. >> reporter: right they say it's not too late to flatten the curve based on our behavior the white house prediction of 240,000 is a little bit more than the 200,000 they had predicted just a couple of days earlier but we could cut that in half or more by staying apart. of course the guidance for the entire country is now social distancing for 30 days until the end of the month president trump says he's leaving it up to each state and 32 have decided to do it so far to do stay home orders but social distancing he says is going to be very important to change those numbers >> we're going to go through a very tough two weeks and then hopefully as the experts are predicting as i think a lot of us are predicting

the u.n. chief has called the outbreak the biggest challenge for the world since world war ii a decrease in new infections and international health experts says the epidemic in that region is far from over for the latest we turn to chapman bell who is live in london good morning >> reporter: good morning. yeah, we've seen a spike in deaths in several countries across europe including here in the uk more than 25,000 cases recorded. almost 1,800 have die as a temporary field hospital is being set up in london, it's been set up quickly by the military and the health service. it will initially have 500 beds with oxygen and ventilators but it could grow to more than 4,000 beds if needed that as france has more than 50,000 cases recorded now, around 3,500 there are dead. the french president visiting a

factory where he's called on a company to up their production of protective equipment in their response to the crisis and italy it appears after three weeks of lockdown across the country they're starting to see the number of cases and deaths level off as they hopefully begin to flatten the curve there. the country honoring those who have died as they lowered the flags observing a minute of silence across the country to honor more than 12,000 dead there and in spain, the number of infections appeared to be lowering but that number spiked more than 9,000 cases giving that glimmer of hope and about 6,500 new cases. in china in wuhan where the epicenter began it's starting to get back to normal there the w.h.o. warning the epidemic in asia is far from over >> that is a tough part to see those numbers level off and
