we want to get a look at the traffic as well as your forecast. kari hall from home today giving us a look at what we can expect. >> yes, i set up my green screen here so we can have a full look. we will start out cool with low 40s, and as we go through the rest of the afternoon we will see the temperatures warming up into the upper 50s by noontime. we are looking at highs across the bay area in the 60s for many inland valleys, and then along the coast in the upper 50s to low 60s. we are tracking an approaching storm system that will be here for the weekend, and i will have more on the timeline coming up in a few minutes. mike has a look for our essential drivers.

we are looking over here at the roadways, green sensors all around the bay, and we will have more. back to you. this morning the number of coronavirus cases is increasing in the bay area. there's now more than 2,600 and 68 people have died. santa clara county is just shy of the most cases. bay area residents are letting police know if their neighborhoods are violating some of the shelter at home orders. police are just telling us to educate the public about social

asking people to take their loved ones home, and the request comes after two members of the facility and a staff member tested positive. the facility said it's working hard to keep people in isolation. and there are two more protests, one in ucsf, and this follows several other recent bay area protests, including one at san jose's good samaritan hospital yesterday. they are voicing concerns about safety equipment supplies. remember, the state recently leased the medical center that faced closure, and the hospital president already admits he doesn't have anything in place. >> we are a decimated space provider, and if we can get our

medical-grade masks in the hands of health workers. it's 4:35. back in the bay we are learning an ac transit driver tested positive for covid-19. sources tell us ac transit posted a letter at the bus yard yesterday to notify their staff, the driver was last at work on march 11th and then went on vacation, so the company says it's unlikely the employee had covid-19 when he was still working. the dmv says some driver's license will be able to be renewed through its website, and

and that may help you out with the streaming we are doing trying to stay in touch, and we are for people opening up the windows, and there's a high amount of tree pollen. one thing we have is a beautiful day. sunshine, a nice breeze picking up throughout today. we also have an approaching storm system that is still well to the west of us. we have today and tomorrow with dry weather before that rain comes in early saturday morning. we are still going to see dry weather for today and tomorrow and once the rain arrives it looks like a decent storm, not a strong one, but it will bring in much-needed rain and w could get a good soaking not only going into satnt monday as well. looking at the rainfall totals and what we are expecting here, we could see rainfall reaching

over an inch in parts of the north bay while the south bay is a little closer to half an inch of rain. it's really good to see this amount of rain go into april because we know february was so dry and now we are in a moderate drought. looking at the 7-day forecast, we are going to see the temperature in the upper 60s for the next couple of days for the inland areas, and once the storm system comes in for the weekend we will be cooling off into the mid-50s. san francisco down to about 54 degrees, but the rain will be clearing out by tuesday. mike, tracking the commune, any issues drivers should know about? >> we have one over in contra costa county, and with the wet roads in the forecast we are talking about with the higher speeds, be careful. i will show you an example of what chp is dealing with, the speed limits are green all around the bay, and there's a

crash though getting over from eastbound highway 4 to southbound. that crew should be clear from the earlier injury crash, and the connecter may have flashing lights there. and at the bay bridge itself, there's hardly any traffic and that's a good thing for those driving into san francisco. new overnight, firefighters in the south bay battling a fire that is believed to have started in an rv. it spread to two homes. this video just into our news room. the fire broke out just before midnight on north 7th street near east st. james street, blocks away from san jose

to stop the spread some of us stopped pushing back our errands, but what about the trip to the dmv? >> actually they are closed and you can't make an appointment now but what do you do if your registration is about to expire. we posed that question to chris chmura. >> we want to caution you about a catch involving smog testing. the state still expect you to pay for your registration, and you can do that online. here's the thing. smog tests are still on, too. you have to take your care to a shop which contradicts the pleas to stay home. what is the state doing about that? you can delay your smog test until after the crisis is over. here's what it said. you may still pay your registration fees to avoid any late fees, however you will not receive your new registration or

year sticker until the smog information has been received by dmv, and that begs a huge question, what if a cop pulls you over for an expired tag, and dmv asked the police to take it easy on the expired registration. here's what we recommend. pay for your registration online on time and indicate you will get your smog test after the crisis, and then print out that and put a copy in your car. if a cop pulls you over, tell them what you did and give the cop a copy of the paperwork. if you don't have a printer, take a snapshot on your phone. 4:56 for you. you ready to make people smile
